Can't imagine that it's weight it 1.8 tons. Heavier than my Innova? What sort of metal goes into this car?

QUOTE(kejusan @ Sep 17 2012, 10:09 PM) Been experimenting driving between manual and auto for the past few days. The FC is significantly better when driving in manual and shifting gears before the 2.5k RPM. For example, I've managed to get 7.6l/100km when driving in manual mode from Serdang to Glenmarie (50% hway, 50% city) with a distance of 30km and average speed of 55km/h. When driven in auto, best FC observe is only 8.2l/100km, and that is on a very light right foot. Thanks for sharing. Very keen observations! Makes me want to see whether it happens on mine too.I also observe that there seems to be an 'intermediate' gear in-between the 1st and 2nd gear; once shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the RPM will drop TWICE, but it's still at the 2nd gear, which seems like there's an intermediate gear. None of this has been observe when shifting at higher gears. Also, on manual mode, shifting from 3rd to 4th gear below 2.5k RPM isn't smooth. Shifting it slightly above 2.5 is silky smooth. |

No issues in terms of stability but my balls did shrink a bit. It's been a while since I did something crazy like this....pls do not compromise your safety in similar fashion. I wouldn't attempt this a second time. |

QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Sep 18 2012, 12:06 PM) The best way to calculate fuel consumption is by the fill, drive, fill again, measure method. Dont use the average FC readings as a benchmark. But dont worry too much about fuel consumption readings. FC is determined more often by your own driving style than any manufacturer settings. Quite often, ppl think that they are driving economically but they arent in actual fact. Thanks for the tips. Should ATF be changed every 20k or 40k km?As for the gearbox, please be reminded that modern day gearboxed undergo severe testing by the manufacturer. Its tested for high revs constantly for many hours. So all these stories about shifting into N while stationary or in motion being damaging to the gearbox are still mostly stories handed down from mouth to mouth. If a gearbox can be damaged by a simple motion of shifting to N, do u really think it would have passed the manufacturer's stringent testing? I used to always shift to N during traffic light stops. I even used to shift when driving downhill. My car lasted 9.5 years and gear shifts were still smooth till i sold the car. Same goes for that story about driving fast constantly being bad for the gearbox. Many of these 'i heard' stories are usually untrue. The same with the story about using Ron97 for a Ron95 certified car will improve fuel consumption and clean the engine. Most important for the gearbox is the ATF. Watch that and ull be fine. |

QUOTE(kejusan @ Sep 19 2012, 09:47 PM) Not sure about the facelift, but are you sure you'll choose Elantra before test driving the 408? I'm trying not to be bias here but you should test drive the 408 before making your choice IMHO. The 408 is only a few months old. I don't think that there will be any facelift in the near future. Yes! You should test drive the 408! The Elantra feels very airy but 408 feels solid. Added on September 19, 2012, 11:27 pm QUOTE(AHY20 @ Sep 19 2012, 09:18 PM) Badge of honour! QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Sep 20 2012, 09:45 AM) Its a common understanding that you should not speed from 8am-6pm. Not a fixed rule but in general. Take this from someone who has covered about 270,000km on the NSE since 2005, constantly drives at about 160kmph and got his last speeding summons in 2005. Wow, tabik! |

QUOTE(Kanasai79 @ Sep 21 2012, 10:13 AM) I have yet to test drive Elantra but went to show room to see the car. Tested Focus last weekend and few rounds of test drive in 408T and 408NA previously. Posted in forum but seems like the people are comparing Ford Focus with Elantra (out of topic What I like about 408T is the powerful acceleration, easy handling, tight turning radius, roomy in front, at the back and in the boot, rear air-con, speed control, and really meaty feeling. Plus it looks good, in my opinion. Hehe.http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2513574 So far here is what I feel (my own opinion): Pro and Cons (408) - Nice front feline design - spacious for rear passenger - rear air con blower - Auto-cruise control - Comfy and nice door rest for long distance cruising - 17" rims inclusive of spare tyre/rim - Major service 60K pricy and complaints about after sales service - Rear light design slightly out (my opinion only - Car player so so - with amber display - standard gear ----------------------------- Pro and Cons (Titanium) - Powerful TI VCT engine with dual clutch auto - Torque vectoring and ESP - Push start button - Fuel saving Technology - EcoMode and Active Grille - 5 years warranty with 3 years maintenance free - Feel more narrow and limited space inside - Design acceptable but not stunning (my opinion only - 16" rims with metal spare rim - No rear air con blower The likes and dislikes are almost the same for both cars, which makes it more difficult for me to decide What I don't like, but can't help it because of the itchy foot, is high fuel consumption (just filled up twice) :-P. Service centre is just opposite my office, and the service advisor is really friendly. So no problem there for me. I can't comment about Focus cos I don't know the car. Free maintenance for three years is very attractive, though. Hehe. Hope that helps. |

QUOTE(SKYjack @ Sep 21 2012, 01:35 PM) Hehehe....tks bro! +1 !!!Added on September 21, 2012, 1:43 pm It's not the sound. Prince 1.6 turbo is much more refined, smooth and powerful. Torque is simply addictive! 408t handling is another level. Elector- hyd steering is much more precise, again at another level. 6spd tranny is silky smooth! Upon hard acceleration, power delivery is effortless, smooth and progressive, it does not struggle with an uncomfortable roar like the Theta 11. For these reasons! |

QUOTE(zweimmk @ Sep 22 2012, 06:02 PM) It's never ending one la. After I top up 18k for the Optima, why not I top up XXk for the Peugeot 508 instead then? But why stop there? Why not top up another XXk more for a Mondeo and then another XXk more for the Audi A4 and another XXk more for the 5 series and so on and so forth. Yup. At the end of the day, regardless of how value for money the 408 is, you just can't argue against individual preferences. At the end of the day, regardless of how value for money the forte is, you just can't argue against individual preferences. |

Loving my ride. There are laws against speeding but no law against acceleration!
P.s. To be fair, most people complain to crowd-source for a solution, not just for the sake of it. |
