lousy bank... lousy customer service !!!!

i used this card for few months already, and recently i requested them to replace a new card for me, because the old one not working... and the CS told me that they already block my card... listen... BLOCKED my card !!!

few days later, and i found out that my auto recurring transaction still go thru !!! the merchant is holding my OLD credit card number to perform the auto recurring transaction, and it still go thru !! so which means my OLD credit card number is still valid in some sense, ok, fine, maybe OCBC allow this for the ease of customer, so the valued customer do not need to go to merchant to change card number when card loss etc etc...

well, i already feel not safe with this bank, since i have another credit card, so i decided to cancel OCBC card, i called to them, and this CS told me that i must go to ALL the merchant to change my credit card info for the auto debit first, before cancel this OCBC card.... you must be curious why he advice me to do that first....
let's see below....

the CS told me, EVEN IF I CANCEL THE CARD, THE AUTO RECURRING TRANSACTION WILL STILL GO THRU !!!!! WTF !!! what's logic is that??? i already cancelled the card -> no credit limit, why the auto recurring transaction will still go thru !! i asked the CS few times, and he confirmed with me few times, the transaction will still go thru....

but i really doubt on that, so i called another CS and asked the same question, and he still give me the same answer.... i really don't understand.... is their CS is not professional or this is the bug of the system in OCBC?

nevertheless, i already lost confident with this bank, so i cancelled the card, and let's see the auto recurring transaction will still go thru or not ....

That happens.. all recurring charge will go thru even card cancelled. not only OCBC. and yes you need to change all the auto billing to other cards personally. i also not sure the theory behind but most banks practise that. It could be probably you have signed on the authorise form for the debit to happen on that card. The CS blocked your card, yes they block from other transaction (swipe or key or internet purchase) other than auto billing - which already authorised and consent by you.

in fact I worked with few banks previously (card related but not sales or CS), and yes, that is the practise. An experience CS will actually advice you to change all auto billing upon cancellation. If any auto billing still went thru, you still liable for it.

This is why i dont believe in auto billing in general. Its a very f***ed up system actually. I just canceled my auto billing with Citibank this morning because I was unsatisfied with it. So i think its not just limited to OCBC.

On another hand there are things I have no choice but to put on auto billed, like insurance and other larger payments. And when i made the switch from one auto bill to another cc, the whole process takes at least a few months. And I had to make really sure they stop charging my previous card before i proceed to cancel the card. Sometimes you cannot just assume everything goes as expected. Always check you online statement to make sure... Double confirm your SI cancellation from all party. The CC user have to take some due diligence on his part to protect himself...

not exactly true.

I once had a citibank credit card, and my ING insurance has auto debt with it, been working fine all the while, no problem.
And i cancelled the card, then the ING couldn't get money from it, the policy almost ceased after few failed attempts tongue.gif

I'm in similar situation. Applied late December and was rejected. Very curious of the reason for rejection since my income is way above the minimum requirement and i do have good payment record on my other credit card and housing loan  rclxub.gif

yes, CARD CANCELLATION and CARD LOST is totally different..... citibank practise the correct way, i think... because once i cancel your card, which means i have no credit limit already, why the transaction still go thru.... this is not making sense...

OCBC practice both CARD CANCELLATION and CART LOST the same way, which i get quite shocked, because all the time i am using foreign bank, and everything was fine...... until this local OCBC bank...

card blocked means, same card number in the front, however the internal security number@serial number(not known by you) is changed. So u can't actually physically swipe the old card. Any online auto debit can still go through.( I asked b4)

card cancel, by right auto debit can't go through. Havent had card cancelled before. Good to find out.

hi, just got my OCBC titanium today.
Applied on 2nd of January and received the card on 4th of January. Any new titanium card holder here?
May i know how do i check whether I'm eligible to get the free luggage promo or not. I have called up their CS and they told me I'll receive the luggage within 8weeks, else I'm not selected. Is there anyway that I can check (via sms or online) whether I'm being selected?

Thanks

OCBC is foreign bank. Again check you auto billing policy. Different T&C. Read it.
