I fully agreed. It depends on who is behind. If they can follow NAZA pricing, Elantra sale will definitely shoot up to the roof
*
As pointed out by ihatemyguts bro, the Elantra MD is based on new platform. In terms of Elantra improvement I guess you can easily obtain the info from web and youtube. The price increase from Forte to Elantra is left for you to judge yourself. For me, I find it to be worth it even with the higher price tag.

A very good video on Elantra vs other cars:

I also booked my car at 1st April, but why your car is ready while mine still no news cry.gif Asked SA, called careline, served with the same old estimate 3 months from booking. Guess SD gives priority to Selangor region vmad.gif

I 100% agree with the interior and outlook design, but when talking about performance, Elantran is using
cut cost Torsion Beam whereas Mazda 3 and Inspira are using multi-link suspension..

I am not sure are Civic, Cruze, Altis using Torsion Beam or Multi-link..? Forte is using Torsion Beam.
*
Civic has dual wishbone, Altis and Slyphy are using torsion beam. Don't know about Cruze though.

new civic also using torsion beam

Some correction. New civic US and Asia version using same dual wishbone (multilink), Euro version uses torsion beam.

I am very surprised Altis is using Torsion Beam...  doh.gif
It all boils down to the suspension setting. Torsion beam does not always = worse handling. Wira is also using multilink laugh.gif

Done 1K services today at Sg.Pinang 3S.

After service, felt more responsive when press the gas pedal.

Btw, what's that last 2 items for ?

Maybe it is some addictive similar to the Honda engine cleaner which top up into the fuel tank and subsequently clean up the carbon residue on the fuel injector and fuel line.

QUOTE(666devil @ May 29 2012, 01:36 PM)
It's time i did a writeup comparing Apple to Apple. This case is the current 1.8G Altis(4 yrs old) vs 1.8 Elantra(2 weeks old). Both in the C segment.

1) Size
You will be suprised with this. I did.
I took a ruler to measure the back seat width. Elantra is wider than Altis by 1cm!! (Altis is already wider than Civic). It's the black interior of Elantra that gives illusion it's narrower than Civic/Altis.
As for leg room. Elantra is on par with Civic.
Headroom loses out to both Civic and Altis, but if u lay down and relax, you can have all the legroom you want. I guess you cant have it all if you want sportiness together with headroom?

2) Design
Up till today i can still stare at the car park outside my house and wonder how amazing the designer team has done with this car  thumbup.gif  Design wise, this car will still be way ahead of it's competitors 5 yrs down the road in Malaysia. Remember that this model has been launched in US 2 yrs ago, and I still do not see any new cars that can beat it's design in foreign magazines. Mazda should be able to catch up soon I believe, provided they dont take the new Honda Civic way...

3) Features
Elantra wins hands down. I loved the nappa leather, GPS/USB/Ipod, auto light on/off, auto wipers(on/off/speed), NO WOOD Trim!! SMART entry!! Sunroof!! Dual aircond however is overrated. ISOFIX no chance to use it yet.
Altis wins in term of power fold mirror, tweeter, much better audio quality(antenna, speaker), boot will open up 30degress once unlocked, and a full spare tyre.
btw, Elantra 1.8 china mari audio unit SUCKS! radio reception bad, CD song play halfway will jump to radio channel, GPS keep prompting cannot read SD card etc. and the black push button cover fell off when i collect my car  doh.gif
1.6 is better as using back original unit.

4) Drive handling
Elantra has stiffer, bumpier ride to accomodate better turning around the corner. Less body roll (Continental Maxcontact)
Altis is more on comfort but very huge body roll (Michellin XM2)
Both are on Torsion beam. I have no problem with it as Elantra is meant for comfort drive. If you want to race, go Mazda/Civic(Not the new Civic pls!)

5) NVH
Elantra wins hands and legs down. i have never expected a car can be so quiet.
It's so quiet now that i can hear any minor rattle coming out from the interior including the leather rubbing against leather  doh.gif
Road noise and wind noise is much much lower than Altis even when hit 100km/h
Engine noise, Trust me , its on par between 1.8 Altis. Both are noisy.  whistling.gif  Only thing is Altis is more responsive. This cannot be said with Elantra 1.6 however. During the test drive, it kept shifting like out of breath. and with the constant shifting, its noisier.
And they say Altis is more quiet than Civic. So go figure...

6) FC
The Altis i owned and trade in was 4 gears, but the exterior is the same as current design.
FC Elantra only slighthly better. I manage to achieve 400km per tank (90% highway driving and works within KL). For Elantra I can get approx 430km. I am not sure about the run in period as will be only doing the 1st service next week.

7) Value for money
Definitely Koreans brands(Forte/Hyundai). Japanese brands nowadays only selling by brand name and minimal feature. Even if Mazda, in order to get specs like this in C segment, you need to go MPS (approx rm130k)
Furthermore, new model japanese cars are increasing in price and reducing in features(Camry)/space(Civic). I have been a loyal fan of japanese cars for the past 10 yrs, and sadly its time to say goodbye. cry.gif
Summary:
Problem is only some rattle noise from the dashboard i need to fix during first service.
I never dare to imagine that i now felt like upgraded to a BMW from Altis. Never regretted it once and never looked back since   thumbup.gif

Nice review!! notworthy.gif Sad to hear that 1.8 GPS HU is worse than 1.6 stock HU doh.gif Eh, how why no comparison in terms of power ? laugh.gif

Added on May 29, 2012, 11:15 pmAnyone know the feedback from Korea Hyundai to SD regarding missing tweeter and tail light?

Yeap! Denso iridium-platinum sparkies smile.gif can feel a smoother acceleration now even with our awesome RON95!
just want to change bro, spark plugs cost 220 in a set. smile.gif nothing is wrong with the initial ones. i just plan a mini-mod for myself.. because stock sparks has a bit of more misfire, leading to a more fuel consumption and less performance..
*
Just curious if do mod like change spark plugs will void the engine warranty? Or just the spark plug warranty?

i think the figure is consider OK(if not good), i m about the v 1st batch if not the 1st 1 in malaysia to registered the car. dated 17apr2012, so 294x2 for apr sales is ard 600 already, if add the slow start up speed of SD, mean mthly shd be better than altis/civic mthly avg liao, which is 5xx-6xx
*
Quite surprised by the sales figure and booking number actually, despite the complaint on "high price" and spec cutting. There are many negative comments in various well known website such as Paultan.org bashing the Elantra.
This only explain that most of the flamers are die hard jap cars fan, while more and more people out there start to accept Korean car.

I'm looking for 1.6 and 1.8 owner's opinion...which one is the best and worth it to buy?

1)  any 1.6 owner's here regret buy this one than 1.8?

2) any 1.8 owner's here regret buy this one than 1.6?

because i have seen some of features in 1.8 very bad such as HU, GPS are not in good condition..better to install from outside shop...

how about 1.6 engine? so far is good or any problem?
*
In my opinion, the "bad" HU can be replaced easily (I don't think it is that bad, although the screen is not bright enough under hot sun). However stuff like auto-climate dual zone aircon, 10way powerseat, cruise control and the new 1.8 engine are hard to be replaced laugh.gif However, in terms of drivability, 1.6 is more than enough for normal city driving. I feel that the 1.6 acceleration is a little bit better than forte 1.6, maybe due to newer engine and lighter body. These is my opinion from my test drive.

So far still have not seen much discussion on the HU glaring issue on the 1.8, also no update on front page.

Besides changing to a better HU, is the glaring issue bearable after installing with legal tint ? (not talking about super dark tint that make inside of the car look like evening under hot afternoon sun sweat.gif ). Also heard some bro here talking about sticking anti glare glass protector, how is the improvement? Thanks smile.gif

Also would like to update here (thanks for elantra9336 bro update on chinese.cari.com.my), our elantra md has "rear crash absorber pole" or whatever it is called rclxms.gif

1. The current running no is PKQ2671, it is already passed 3 numbers, so if let say I want to get PKR xxx, is it possible?
2. Can SA do the number booking for you? Or need runner? Cost of runner?

Thanks in advance !

Just tell yr SA what u want. If he can't do himself, he will pass to runner to do.

When I tendered for PKN, not sure SA did it himself or pass to runner, cost of runner RM50.
