@kaysa - Thanks! The white/gray keycaps make the keyboard sooo much more attractive to me. smile.gif

the plus side for the one I own is that its black body,
normally the black one have black inks, or black blank, which hard to see, or no legend at all.

only the whites one with print can be seen clear and easily,
but I saw a Youtube video, the white body, which is ABS are turning yellowish,
while the PBT keycaps stay fresh white......

so the one I have is ABS black body + the white PBT keycaps,
no worry about the yellowing problem of the ABS body,
nor the yellowing of the PBT keycaps!

That's easy. An IBM Model M "Mini" 1391472 aka SSK, like mine. smile.gif

An SSK is going to set you back at least RM450 excluding shipping. The one in the picture is in mint condition and expertly bolt-modded (not by me), so it's worth a lot more.

Replacing the broken plastic rivets in a Model M with bolts and nuts. A tedious process. Needs quite a bit of skill to do it properly.

Im going to use it for gaming mostly. I dont mind with or without backlighting. As for switches, i prefer black because from what i read its better for gaming but i'd like to hear opinions from u guys. Actually i prefer with macro but if doesnt have, i think i can live with it. My budget rm500 below. Hope to hear from u guys. Thanks in advance.

And of course, the interest in Topre switches will continue for some time. The problem is $$. If the cost of acquiring them was much less, I think we'll see a lot more people buying Realforces and HHKBs.

coz of too many type ady exist I dont think topre shud lowered their price even next 10 or 20 years...most patented things sure freakinly expensive n ppl behind it sure will non-stop making money from it..unless there is a genius tat come out wif sumtin more superior..lets do the research nod.gif

We don't know to appreciate the old things when they are new, like alot of ppl around me,
I own a IBM model M or model F more than 10 years ago,
by that time the window comes out, everyone getting rid of those keyboards without "Window" key,
so we got ourself a microsoft naural keyboard and get rid of the IMB keyboard.

......lol when sumtin more superior come out, you will try to buy the more superior thing,
and that is sure more expensive than the Topre at that time la sweat.gif

There is no point to go after the "best" thing, just find one that suit you best. thumbup.gif

Like....... if Angelina Jolie wub.gif wan to marry you, you want?
just find a wife that suit you.

@kaysa - Couldn't agree more with you. The same applies for a lot of things, not just keyboards or women. You gotta work out what your needs are and what your budget is, look at the options, and go for what is best and available at that time. If you wait forever, you will never find the "right" thing. Another example is chasing the "best" thing from Apple. They come out with a superior product, even within the same line (e.g. iPod) every 6 months. How does anyone keep up? So you just go for what serves your needs and fits your budget at that time. Same story for cars, houses, mobile phones, etc.

I can assure you that interest in IBM Model Ms in Malaysia/Singapore has been very strong recently. Personal experience.

And of course, the interest in Topre switches will continue for some time. The problem is $$. If the cost of acquiring them was much less, I think we'll see a lot more people buying Realforces and HHKBs.

Been looking for an IBM Model M for a long time before I got the Topre. It was not easy.

My Topre was given to me by Topre Japan themselves. They approached me and sent it to me for a review (I was with a tech magazine) and they let me keep it. Never looked back since. Hehe.

Yes.

If you get a SSK from Taobao, it will probably have broken plastic rivets. If there are a lot of broken rivets, it will need to be bolt modded.

A bolt modded SSK is going to exceed your budget by a wide margin.

Therefore, yes, a Cherry switch TKL looks right for you. BTW, I wouldn't say an SSK is suitable for mobility... it weighs a lot due to the metal plates in it and the heavy plastic. The weight is a good thing IMHO because it makes the board feel solid.

IF I needed a keyboard for mobility, I'd go for a HHKB (white/gray keycaps please).

I personally hate black switches because they feel like really stiff membranes to me. Black switches are good for gaming is a myth. Most people say that blue switches are definitely not for gaming - but SlayerS Boxer is using a blue switch keyboard.

But it is up to you - switch preferences is very subjective. You need to try the keyboard out yourself.

Some brands you really can't go wrong with - Filco, Leopold and CM Quickfire series are all solid keyboards. I am still biased against Ducky due to the frame flexing - but that is my personal opinion, lots of forumers are very happy Ducky users.

P.S: Check out the CM Storm Trigger for macro keys and backlit.

I'm using mine as a normal keyboard, which some of my friends say is blasphemy because I don't know how to appreciate it. smile.gif

Anyway, this is my Topre Realforce 103U-UB. smile.gif

I have just gotten myself a Leopold FC200RT/ABN Brown switches from elitekeyboards.com. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I'm loving it. The typing experience is sensational however I needed to adjust my typing style a bit after moving to this keyboard, but it's no big deal. I gotten the tenkeyless version and ones with a blank keycap - although I may regret buying the blank keycaps version as my typing is not as good yet.. blush.gif
