That depends on how much you like that switch. Lucidlts has a bunch of black switch. I buy multiple types and try not to repeat. |

QUOTE(dragorc @ Jun 25 2012, 03:58 PM) As mentioned previously, I like this Realforce 87UW 45g. It's a really solid board. ![]() Added on June 25, 2012, 8:57 pm QUOTE(dragorc @ Jun 25 2012, 08:36 PM) The quality of some vintage keyboards are so good that they will never be reproduced at a decent price. Design (e.g. buckling springs), materials (metal, not plastic), and timeless technology (e.g. capacitive switches) set some old keyboards apart. Some were expensive to make (e.g. IBM Model F keyboards), much like the Topre boards of today. The difference is that those IBM keyboards will last till you die, but there is some question about the durability of the Topre switch. Apparently, the rubber of Topre switches get stiff over time (like rubber bands)... I also read somewhere they become mushy - seems a little contradictory to me. If you think about it, it makes sense - rubber cannot last forever, whereas those buckling springs seem durable enough. This post has been edited by epiguru: Jun 25 2012, 08:57 PM |

QUOTE(kaiserreich @ Jun 25 2012, 09:52 PM) Wise choice. I read quite often that Unicomp boards fail whereas Model Ms seem to be quite durable despite being 25 years old or even older. If there is anything wrong with Model Ms, it's usually the broken plastic rivets or the LEDs not working. The plastic rivets can be fixed by bolt modding, and the LEDs can be replaced if necessary. |

Ya no argueable bout the rubber itself coz its good to be true, sure will dead someday, yet i need to rethinks again n again ![]() Added on June 25, 2012, 8:57 pm The quality of some vintage keyboards are so good that they will never be reproduced at a decent price. BS on the other hand is handled by the spring itself, thus the durability is close to unmatched. To get best of both worlds, why not get both BS and also Topre? like what epicguru does, LOL. 2kbs aren't too much consider average of us here having at least 2-3kbs. Those collectors may have even more. This post has been edited by Human10: Jun 25 2012, 11:19 PM |

QUOTE(epiguru @ Jun 25 2012, 03:51 PM) @kaysa - About your dilemma, I would suggest you hang on to both keyboards and test them out "side-by-side", e.g. 2 days on one, another 2 days on the other,..., then figure out which one you prefer and keep it. Sell the one you like less to make up the funds. Both boards will keep their resale value for at least another 1 or 2 months, easy. You don't want to do something you regret later. Just my 2 cents. I think I wil try this, use them for a few day each, then really find out which one really suit me best and then decide which one to sell. The one that you sell is not necessarily any "worse" or "better". It's just the one you like less but may be something that someone else really wants and would enjoy. BTW, I think a lot of collectors, including myself, have to make these types of decisions - which keyboards to keep and which to let go. Otherwise, the hobby becomes too expensive and cluttered. There is higher chance that I will be selling my HHKB, since I have a red switch Leopold, which has similar touch to the silent realforce, I always have problem switching between switches that is very different... Epiguru, you were temped by HHKB too right? if you are still interested by the time I decided to sell it, I will give you a special price and btw I don't think the HHKB value can go any much lower, since its 6 years old. QUOTE(dragorc @ Jun 26 2012, 12:20 AM) I owe Epiguru some favor before, thus special price.Similar to Topre... zzz I m saying this myself now, and not long ago I m calling people ignorant for saying that topre are similar to a membrane keyboars... Truth to be told, there is similarity, as I say, you need to try them yourself to be sure of all the touches of different switches, but the durability and built quality, you need proof from old user of the product to testify them. |

So that mean by any chance if you met one, you probably can get it at no cost. If you insist on a new one. Your best bet are ebay US or UNICOMP.
