I have been uses the cherry a few months ago, and change to Topre recently.
Alot of people said its difficult to describe the touch of Topre switches,
I feel the same, but let me try to describe as best as I can.....
The switches has a very strong tactile feeling, like the membrance keyboards,
but it doesn't require to bottom out the keyo to register a key in,
and once you press the key, it has a very strong rebound, unlike membrance keyboards.
since the keypress doesn't bottom each registering key in, the sound of it are completely different
from any cherry switches, even you bottom out the key, the rubber dorm are not touching the PCB board,
or the steel board that mount the switches, thus not making loud noise when you do so.
but instead it make sound once you release the key,
I think that is due to the structure of the switches, there is a Plunger to connect the keycaps,
the plunger will hit the top of the housing of the switches, made a sound when you release the key.
In my opinion the overall built quality, the design and the quality control are better,
the keystrokes are more solid and firm when typing on them compare to the keyboard with cherry Mx switches.
the keycaps are PBT with sub-dye legend, the key surface are sleek and without grooves or dent feeling,
It's claim to be non fading.
Unlike the another Black PBT caps with purple print that I uses are now starting to fades,
not because of the dirt or kotor finger, even after I wash it, the charecters are not coming clear again.
anyway that's what I felt about the HHKB for these few weeks of usage,
hope these help.
Added on May 13, 2012, 11:55 pmI saw you have some products from CM, so I actually presume that you will get CM at the end,
But the problem is that they did not gain their reputation for making keyboards,
like Corssair, its good at making RAM, but their keyboard are least of a choice for a true keyboard user.
But, hopefully that's like Kai said it's kotor fingers.
and your faith in CM restored.
I find that the switches on the HHKB vs the Topre on the Realforce quite different. Don't know how to put it in words, but the HHKB feels better than the Topre.
Also, I tested (AGAIN) the Archiss AS-KBT87LR (aka Leopold FC200R) red switch, and don't know why i never felt this before but it definitely feels mushier compared to the Filco MJ2 red / CM Storm Rapid red. So yeah, i think i'll just screw it and wait for the Filco red to come locally =.=. I can't stand the CM Storm either cause it looks terrible. Rubberized body is just so.... cheap =.=
