That, is pretty outstanding thumbup.gif I can only achieve that on my manual tranny if I do 90 km/h all the way between Penang and KL, and the remainder of the tank spent in either place yawn.gif

Btw I achieved my record distance on one tank the other week. This should be no problem for you guys with the CVT, right? brows.gif

Like how I describe lor, hover around 2k rpm. Even acceleration also like a snail, never ever exceed 2.2-2.3k rpm. It was just an experiment la coz my previous fc was sky high, so I wanted to see if something wrong with my car.

It seems my fc went up after fixing my exhaust, maybe now no sound to warn me when I rev high sweat.gif

On the other hand, last nite drove back to ipoh at 130kmh, only got 13km/l doh.gif

QUOTE(kennie @ May 15 2012, 12:36 AM)
time to change my old savvy, having dilemma between saga 1.3 and 1.6 cvt!!! how how which to choose?? would 1.6cvt fc as bad as 1st gen blm 1.3 saga??
btw the old 1.3 blm really underpower....frustrating whenever passing by ipoh's ns highway uphill road and karak's uphill road zzzz, the gear just wont stay in 3rd n will straight away drop to 2nd after charged enough to change gear, hard to >100km/h, some slope even hard to maintain it....if step harder n stay in 5k rpm the engine is too noisyyy =.=

would 1.3cvt much better than 1.3 blm in such situations? how good is 1.6 cvt compare to it?? sifu2s pls help~
Oh, the stretch just before or after Ipoh (depends where you're coming from) is my favourite part of the drive. Your underpower complaint is due to the four speed auto tranny, as my manual tranny can climb both sides of the hill at 110 km/h in 5th gear, provided I don't lose momentum (by some n00bs hogging the right lane mad.gif). I've never driven the four speed auto before, but I've tried my friend's 1.3 CVT. It was still new so I didn't push it hard, but it was a very smooth drive, and the power delivery is good. Those guys with the CVT can describe it to you better. See what David wrote earlier:

QUOTE(davidke20 @ May 14 2012, 05:28 PM)
As a BLM manual owner, all time performance enthusiast, GaGa CVT will be the 1st auto car recommended by me. I've tried several 1.3 CVT & several FLX SE CVT. Frankly, the torque you felt in a CVT has nothing much less than any manual car, infact the CVT clutching better than much manual driver. Often you hear pakcik at the traffic light pickup with a long haul of RPM and drag 3-4seconds of semi clutching before the car move, also normal 4AT car will have this kind of problem, which CVT DOESN'T have at all!

For a few thousand ringgit different, you get to enjoy fuel save like a manual, fast like a manual, best of it no need to clutch at traffic jam anymore! icon_idea.gif CVT FLX is the choice. Don't say I poison you, go find manual & CVT test drive to feel it. Anyway, for me 1.6 doesn't perform much better than the 1.3. So far the best 1.3CVT I sit is V12k's ride.
*
I definitely think the CVT is a good buy though personally if I were to buy an FLX now I'd still get the manual as I like choosing my own gear and the Getrag gearbox should be better than the old one. No more 110 km/h at 3,600 RPM doh.gif

The impression I got was that the FLX CVT is quieter and more refined than my own one, probably due to the fact that the engine does not need to be revved hard.

1.6 vs 1.3? I've never complained about my 1.3 being underpowered, even with five on board, but then again I drive for economy, not performance. Though I think having a bigger engine gives a more relaxed drive, as you don't have to push it so hard. I doubt a bigger engine is gonna more thirsty, unless it's seriously overkill, like a 3 litre. Just look at Dares' latest consumption.

Btw your vacuum gauge posts got me interested in one. It's so fascinating how much info you can pull out from a single meter.

I shift up at 2,000 RPM in city traffic. That works very well for me. David I remember you said earlier that your mileage is only around 19,000 km, if I'm not mistaken. Mine is past 38k now, almost time for service. If you look at my Fuelly graph you'll see that my average consumption per month is dropping as time goes by. I remember about a year ago I was struggling to touch 400 km on one tank, and I was so happy when I finally did. Even then that was with super light foot driving, using very long detours to avoid jams, switching engine off at traffic lights, etc. Then I gradually kept hitting 400 km more and more often until nowadays it's virtually guaranteed. Now I can touch 500+ km if I drive carefully on the highway.

My theory is, your engine is still being run in, even well past 10,000 km. But then again that doesn't explain how some people who got their car this year can start off so well rclxub.gif

Also, I'm using relatively heavy oil, 15w50. Every time I ask for lighter oil the service advisor say takde doh.gif Cold tyre pressure, front 33 PSI, rear 31 PSI.

Hmmmmm yeah that was pushing it a bit too far. Though I remember reading somewhere that someone with a BLM ran out of petrol and when he tried to pump full tank it could only take 36 L. So maybe, 1.5 L from empty lah. I've never ran out of petrol before, and I don't think I wanna experience it tongue.gif

I din't pay attention to the RPM, coz going at that speed in the Saga, I can only focus on the road the the speedo, which is a GPS reading projected from my tablet onto the windscreen like a HUD tongue.gif (the GPS reading is 3-4 kmh lower than the speedo, FYI, so 120km/h on the GPS = 124kmh on the speedo)

But the feeling is, the accelerator needs to be kept at the position constantly to keep speeding above 120km/h, once you let lose abit it will slow down to 110km/h and below rather quickly.

This gives me the impression that once I go above 110km/h it becomes less efficient and needs more effort to keep that speed, so I'd venture a guess that for the most fuel efficient drive on highway, stay at 100-110 km/h.

The 1.6 CVT cruises at the same RPM as the 1.3 CVT.

I read few posts from our forumer here who ran out of fuel, after refuel manage to pump in around 35L only...

Unless we can know our fuel pump is located at the lowest position of the fuel tank, else up/down hill will make it unable to suck the fuel from the bottom of tank.

This morning woke up late, left ISWAGA key on the table. Off I drove it, while stuck in Segambut, suddenly hear rattling sound came from engine bay. I was worrying & moving slowly since traffic jam. When I reach Jalan Ipoh, I stop by my supplier and check... Found the engine oil cap melted, the metal screw & the lock fall on the rocker sad.gif The birds are injured, but still can use.however,I'm advised to drain the whole system to prevent debree continue hurting other component, best is overhaul since going to take out everything sad.gif

Regarding vacuum gauge, I heard electonic gauge only 60+(source from kenjilew), reading in BAR. The 1 I mentioned is analog dial gauge, reading in INCH/CM. Price is RM85(may negotiate lower for bulk order). Besides, heard the reading is inaccurate on FLX, I haven't get a chance to test vacuum on an FLX yet. Please also survey your local accessories shop. I may get the BM horn cheap, but who knows you get the vacuum gauge cheap? icon_idea.gif

Yes I agree. I personally find that above the speed limit, FC drops to city-like levels (my own levels), still good but not excellent any more.

From the way you described how your speed responds to the accelerator input, I realise now that I appreciate the fact that I can control speed and acceleration precisely on the highway on my manual, cos the gear ratio is fixed. Hope I'll get to test a chance on the CVT on the highway soon.

CVT also cruise at fixed RPM, just kinda tiring to maintain constant speed once I hit 120 or higher. Step more a bit at 130, go up 140. Let lose a bit, suddenly 110.

I dunno if this is common in all Saga, but I feel my car is very sensitive to turbulence from large vehicles. When trying to overtake bus or lorries, I can feel the car swaying slightly sideways as I approach from behind, coming up its side all the way until the vehicle is behind me. Everytime I overtake these vehicles I have to hold the steering tightly with both hands and slow down just enough to overtake in a timely manner.

I dunno BLM how bad ler. But I feel it is so much worse than the Waja, unfair comparison, I know. The main culprit is the vehicle height, I think.

I can only imagine how bad it is in a Maivee or Viva.
