Hi , would like to enroll my HGUC 1/144 AMX -009 Dreissen for the OOB category.  Any penalties for not meeting the deadline? tongue.gif

Hopefully can sustain my motivation biggrin.gif
*
Name added! Gambate bro!!!!!

Penalty? let me think... Hahahah mebbe u gotta belanja me n VincC teh tarik during gathering (if we manage to organize one) biggrin.gif Muahahahah!!!! No la, this is just a GB for everyone to have fun... we dont set rules to tie people down. Of course, try your best to complete lor. FFK (Fong fei gei = not meeting the deadline or just MIA half way) not very steady lor..... tongue.gif

**********************************************************************************************************************************

P/S: The more i answer questions from members, the more i afraid i sounded like making this event more serious. But No, dont worries guys, some simple rules is set merely because we have judging n prizes only. In fact, we set very general rules just to avoid confusion. But a lot of fine definition is still within our mutual understandings amongst fellow modelers.

For example: OOB category, say if he already painted everything... but in one photo, he display his mecha waving the light saber.... Dont come complain to us that we should disqualify (DQ) him because his light saber is not painted with colors.... i mean well this is one of the gray area. Of course, if anyone made such complaint, vincC n i will sit down n discuss n vote with the judges. But to me, my understanding, i will accept an unpainted clear light saber, or unpainted special effect (eg the effect in between hi-nu's funnel, strike freedom's wing etc).

Rules is mainly to prevent people go overboard doing something crazy only....

Cheers!

QUOTE(nazrul90 @ Apr 23 2012, 05:12 PM)
does that mean all kits that entering in this GB will be display at Litt Tak?
*
We try. First we need to try get largest space as we could. Although they have officially agree to let us have a space to display, but nothing concrete yet. Because on our side we also need to determine how many kits we have that meet the deadline, and amongst them how many are willing to lend out their kit to be displayed there. No point to fight for large large place but in the end, out of 20 over participatns, only a handful actually completed their builts.

Also, this is not a compulsory thing. If any modelers dont feel comfortable, or they just dont want the trouble to bring the kit for display, we will not force them.

Of course, if possible, we can have as large the space n as many people willing to let their kit displayed. if that happened... holy... that will be some scene we r going to make during the mid year in sg wang. Plus, we manage to organize a gathering... we definitely will be LOUD! Hahahahah tongue.gif

Note: mid year competition will be in sg wang june 4th(Mon)~ june 10th (Sun), 1 week. So we are expecting to set up the display on 3rd june (Sun) around midnight time.... we will announce details n discuss with all participating members later; to arrange stuff. (eg, some might not able to make it on sunday night, then might need to arrange monday 10am they bring their kit etc etc...)

I always use if not all, most of the decals given with the kit, but the Ver. Ka is really challenging and quite a pain-in-the-behind to put all of them, even got some at almost impossible places doh.gif

well, I have been warned (by online reviews), and I've taken up the challenge. it's my first time with a Ver. Ka kit, so lets just hope it'll not ruin the whole experience (and my precious time, too) laugh.gif

Same same here. Actually i have never used any decals or stickers that comes with the kit; n this round i was like, "why not?" n take up the challenge.

As the chinese saying: catch worm n put into you @ss..... rclxub.gif

Looking so far so good... clean as it is.

Yeah detail it a bit more with decals or other stuff will definitely help make the kit stand out from the crowd.

Btw, remember this: in ALL online competition, photography is extremely important. Just hold on a bit for awhile, i think somebody expect in photography is cooking something n will pose a tutorial or tips regarding photography. Easy way to create photograph that impress people; even with a simple point n shoot camera.

These r both kits without any painting but with good photography.

yeah, i have no experience in dealing with stickers n dry transfer that comes with the kit. Another reason might be, my kit is very old ady n the dry transfer expired ady, which makes them crispy n crack even more...... n not sticking to the surface......

just sharing what i did WRONG......

(Now walk to one corner, facing the wall, n continue to depress....)

It was the water slide decal, which unlike dry transfer it was much more forgiving in that you can move the decal around when it still wet and you need to dry it off when you have it in position.

oic.... hahha i thought u r refering to some way to use water to salvage the cracked dry transfer.... tongue.gif

Looks so far so good. Yes, i think painted the red should be better than just slapping the stickers on it! icon_rolleyes.gif Just a pointer: remember to top coat it n also take good photo when u do final presentation. Now still look a bit plastic.

But no hurry, take your time to make everything supernice first. because Vince is preparing some tops for good photography tutorial, the easiest, cheapest way to create nice n clear photo. everyone needs to do this for online competition because photography plays a big part!

Name added for both categories!!!!

Whoa, we have the first officially announced kit bash kit!!! Somemore is a koto kit!!!!...... Hmmm i think is ok because majority or at least half of the kit is from Bandai; unless VinceC or Litt Tak side complain because they might worry about the Bandai's Japanese reaction during mid year..... Let's hope everything's fine!

Ok, i think i will share a little bit with snapfit... something i just learn recently when i started doing my snapfit kits.

One of the main challenge of snapfitted kit is the task of removing nip marks, without leaving any visible leftover mark. This is especially challenging when doing colored parts; especially blue n red, n other darker colors. One can sand under the nip mark is flat, but is during the cutting process, any damage on the plastic will leave a white spot on the plastic which is almost impossible to remove 100%. So be very careful!

user posted image
Part on the runner.

user posted image
Cut it from the runner with a side cutter. Remember to leave some extra nip. This is because no matter how sharp your side cutter is, the cutting action somehow will have some force pressing onto the plastic. This will, especially parts with darker color like red n blue n grey, The force might damage the plastic n leave white spot.

user posted image
Then, use a sharp knife to slowly "slice" the nip, bit by bit. With this, no pressure will be put onto the plastic. When the nip mark is short enough, mebbe 0.5mm, we can start doing sanding.

user posted image
My personal habit is start with a file. This is sometimes dangerous because file can be very erosive n it sands down plastic very fast. As a result, if not careful, u might just over sand the whole thing n leave some very deep scratch mark onto the plastic. Here, i file it down until it's almost near the part. u can still see the shape of the nip. notice the white or light color around the nip? this is plastic damage n turn white. but no worry, it's only skin deep n can be easily removed by sand paper.

user posted image
Sand paper sanding. i start with 800, end with 1,200 grit. This is because i will be finishing with flat coat. IF u wanna do gloss coat, at least end with 2,000 grit n above. For curvy surface, i strongly recommend to use those 3M sanding sponge, the one state "microfine".

Now we can still see some scratches.

user posted image
Next i use Tamiya compound Coarse (Pic below) to compound it. Actually i do not need to do this because my final finishing is flat. This is just to show an example for those who wants to do gloss or semi gloss.

Besides compound, if u think it's expensive (around RM15 one tube), u can also use nail polisher. Use the finest one, those used for last step polishing or they call it "buff" type.

Other than that, u can even use those CD recovery fluid. The liquid u use, when your DVD has fine scratches, to wipe on the CD/DVD. IT works.
user posted image

******************************************************************************************************************************

Compared to the pic above, u can see the glossiness of original Bandai plastic. After compound, it's much glossier, something like those HD version.
