BEAST!! He and Lucas would make the perfect defensive midfielder duo in the Premier League had he stayed back then.

Untrustworthy! Former Liverpool owners Hicks and Gillett blasted by judge

Former Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have been criticised by a judge in the High Court who said he does not trust them.

Mr Justice Peter Smith said the pair had shown they would ‘abuse’ the court process if it suited them.

They lost their ownership of the Merseyside club when it was sold to New England Sports Ventures.

A £300million deal in October 2010 saw another American businessman, John W Henry, take control of the side.

The judge criticised the previous owners when hearing evidence during the latest phase of litigation which began after the sale.

He refused to allow the pair ‘full and unrestricted’ access to private documentation used in the litigation because of his fears about their ‘potential misconduct’.

‘I do not trust your clients,” the judge today told British lawyers representing Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett in the current High Court litigation.

‘(They) have demonstrated... that if it suits them they will abuse the process.’

Hicks and Gillett tried but failed to block the Liverpool’s sale, before launching damages claims in which they alleged the club was sold at a ‘substantial undervalue’.

and said the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and then Liverpool directors had ‘deliberately’ blocked their attempts to ‘refinance’.

RBS bosses and directors dispute these allegations and asked the judge in March to declare them not guilty of ‘any dishonesty and corruption’.

Mr Justice Peter Smith explained an American lawyer representing the duo had twice misled an American court in 2010 after the sale.

He said they had provided ‘no credible explanation’ for the lawyer’s actions and said they had taken a ‘Manuelesque - “I know nothing”’ stance.

Hicks and Gillett asked for RBS documents to aid their case but the bank did not want to give the pair the information.

The judge said: ‘In my view that was and remains a legitimate concern,’ he said. ‘They are entitled to be fearful about potential misconduct.’

He said they could not have ‘unrestricted access’, but their British lawyers could study the documents.

Added on April 27, 2012, 2:10 amReds head Guardiola speculation

The news of Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola departing from the Catalan giants has spurned a wave of speculation surrounding the Spaniards next managerial position, with Liverpool leading the way.

SkySports understands that a press conference is to take place this coming Friday, announcing his resignation after four trophy-ladened seasons with Barca, president Sandro Rosell will be present alongside him.

With an array of top-flight clubs in England all possibly looking for replacement managers over the coming months, Guardiola won’t be short on offers once he is ready to take up a new challenge.

Guardiola was announced the FIFA Mens World Coach of the Year earlier this year, beating off competition from Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea are tipped to be making enquiries, as are Liverpool’s owners FSG who could be tempted to replace under-fire manager Kenny Dalglish after a mixed season.

Fans are speculating that a huge rebuilding programme will be undertaken by FSG come the end of the season, spearheaded by one of the world’s best club managers would be a mouth-watering prospect.

mouth watering but not sure if the source is trustful

Added on April 27, 2012, 2:12 amLiverpool FC to allow FOX Sports cameras into Anfield inner sanctum for behind-the-scenes documentary series

LIVERPOOL FC have announced they are to grant unprecedented access for a behind-the-scenes documentary into the club.

The project, which begins filming in May, will see LFC open its doors to give broadcasters FOX Soccer a unique insight into the Anfield inner sanctum for a six-episode series entitled, 'Our Liverpool: Never Walk Alone'.

FOX Sports Media Group Chairman and CEO David Hill said, “This is going to be a truly remarkable series for every football fan on earth, watching the inner workings of one of the world’s truly great clubs, and seeing things no one outside the inner sanctum has seen or experienced before.

“Liverpool FC is cherished by its community and hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. Working with a team so unique, and wrapped in so much history, is a natural fit for a project of this magnitude and uniqueness.”

“I am delighted that David Hill, David Nathanson, and the team at Fox are producing this unique series. I expect that it will be compelling programming as Liverpool will provide unprecedented access,” says Club

Chairman Tom Werner. “This will be an amazing opportunity for our fans to see a new side of the Club and for us to reach out to many more potential supporters around the world who will come to understand what makes Liverpool FC so special.”

Working directly with Liverpool’s ownership and management, FOX Soccer has gained exclusive and unprecedented access to one of the most influential clubs in global sport – including taking cameras inside the Anfield and Melwood dressing rooms to show fans the players and manager at work.

‘Our Liverpool: Never Walk Alone’ will begin deep inside the club at the tail end of the 2011-2012 campaign, a rollercoaster season that could end with the club adding an eighth FA Cup trophy at Wembley in May to the eighth League Cup that was won at the same venue in February.

Episodes continue through the club’s July tour of North America, with FOX Soccer’s production crew following the team on and off the field as Liverpool prepare for the new Barclays Premier League season and contest the first few matches of its 2012-2013 campaign.

Throughout this journey, Liverpool’s unique traditions will be highlighted, along with the club’s unparalleled history, and its heartfelt place in the fabric of the local community.

“Anyone who supports, plays for, or works at this football club knows how unique and special it is and how much it means to so many,” claims Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre.

“This project creates a fantastic opportunity to allow people across the world to have a glimpse of the inner workings of the club following the lives of our staff, our players and our fans, all of whom make up everything that is Liverpool Football Club.”

The series will be led by multiple Emmy award-winning producer Scott Boggins (formerly of HBO’s groundbreaking ‘24/7’ series) and is set to air globally in autumn 2012.

Boggins’ expertise from his time at HBO will add a unique aesthetic to ‘Our Liverpool: Never Walk Alone’. Through five seasons, HBO’s ‘24/7’ has earned 33 Emmy nominations, winning 14 times.

Boggins’ most recent work includes around-the-clock access to boxing title bouts including Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz (2011) and Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton (2009).

Boggins was also responsible for the ‘24/7’ coverage of the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins clash in the build-up to the 2011 NHL Winter Classic.

His portfolio also includes ‘24/7’ work centred upon NASCAR driver and legend Jimmie Johnson and additional boxing projects featuring Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr.

“Our goal is to capture the essence of what it means to be a part of Liverpool Football Club in an authentic manner, and no producer has more experience with this style of story-telling than Scott Boggins,” believes FOX Soccer General Manager David Nathanson.

“Scott’s body of work is remarkable, giving fans a true peak behind the curtain into the lives of sport’s biggest teams, athletes and coaches. Scott has proven his ability to capture these inner workings in a truly organic manner, and now he has the opportunity to tell Liverpool FC’s rich story to a global audience.”

i don't think he'll make KD's grade sad.gif (not to take a dig at Dalglish) but the way alonso operates isn't the type take fits into the formation kenny has for us this season. (just an opinion)

From what I read from soccernet, it seems he's planning to take a year off from football management. Does Guardiola speaks fluent English?

Personally, I don't think Kenny has the job because of sentiments but because of what he has done in the past and in the last 18 months or so. It was a hugggggggge task. No man is bigger than the club and that's why I think Kenny will know when to step down because for him, it's the club before himself even and if he thinks he has done enough in terms of taking the club further, he'll definitely step down.
I'll say this. I appreciate the efforts of anyone who gives their all for the club, even the likes of Igor Biscan, Titi Camara or Erik Meijer who simply were not first team material. Nonetheless, their commitment to the club endeared them to Liverpool fans all over, myself included. King Kenny is an institution and I'm pretty darn sure he's doing all he can to the best of his ability and for this, I am almost willing him to succeed, quite simply because I feel it's the Liverpool way. If he isn't up to the task, I'm sure he'll step aside graciously. Carra went from first team regular to bench warmer and even said that he'd step aside for the younger lads if he can not longer cut it at the highest level. It's why you don't hear him complaining about falling down the pecking order.

QUOTE(hfi @ Apr 26 2012, 08:01 PM)
Henderson is a good footballer tho. He's far more versatile than Jonjo. He can play right mid, center mid and even at right back. That is not bad for a 21 year old who is still learning his trade. This is not to say i don't rate Jonjo because i really do like him as an attacking midfielder. He attacks well but his teamwork is a little suspect at the moment. So when it comes to thinning the squad for whatever reasons that may be, i can understand why Henderson is valued more than Jonjo.
*
He has talent but I don't see him doing any better than Jonjo on the right if Kenny were to thrust the latter out wide. I've little doubt that Henderson will get better but Jonjo looks more assured on the ball and he plays simple, consistent football.

The away end still sings at every game and I'm pretty sure the Kop is still in full voice, even willing the team to win when we go behind. If there's one thing I like about Liverpool fans (in the UK), it's that they may b**** and complain behind closed doors but when the team takes to the field, they become one voice, singing either in happiness, sadness or in pure defiance. We shall not be moved.

Right, unfortunately. I don't understand why we can't be like United, loaning young players to lower Premier League teams. They've done it successfully with Welback (Sunderland) and Cleverley (Wigan). Jonjo was doing well in Blackpool, but I would rather him be in the Premier League.

I have to ask. Off all the players we've loaned out, and sold eventually, how many become a success? Maybe they just weren't good enough?

I think it's more of we destroyed those players. Some of them had genuine talent but we didnt how to develop them. How many of our youth became first team regulars.I can count them with one hand.Gerrard, carragher, owen and going back a bit further mcmanaman and fowler.

Anfield has been a graveyard for youth players in the past decade.Even talents like ryan babel failed here.
This is why rafa revamped the academy by bringing in personnel like borrell to develop them.

To answer your question danny guthrie and insua are doing well in their respective teams.
You seem to think the club can do no wrong. That's a misconception as our sorry state of affairs today are the results of our doing.

An misconception indeed. I thought the club was wrong to appoint Roy Hogson, just as I thought they were wrong to appoint joint managers in Houllier and Evans. I thought they were wrong to ask Shankly to stay away from Anfield because his presence undermined Paisley. I thought they were wrong to persist with Rick Parry who failed to take us forward commercially.

Guthrie is not a first team regular and if I recall you spoke before about how our expectations should be higher. Do you see Guthrie as someone who would start for a side wanting to challenge for the Premiership? For every Danny Guthrie and Stephen Warnock ( who if I recall correctly, many posters said wasn't good enough when I suggested we resigned him as cover since we only had Konchesky in that position at the time), there is a Ritchie Patridge, John Welsh, Paul Anderson, David Thompson, Mark Gonzalez, Sebastian Leto, Damien Plessis, Neil Mellor and Zak Whitbread. These players all had time to develop at other clubs after being released but how many of them are first team regulars at a top side? Not like Babel is doing any better at Hoffenheim.

Our Academy was indeed in need of an overhaul which it got and we're seeing the results now. It isn't that we killed someone's career as they still had years to develop after leaving as much as we failed to turn them into stars.

For this matter, I think our rivals has done a better job in developing their talent through loan. Eg. Welbeck loaned to Sunderland an Sturridge to Bolton. Do we have such a success story in our team, don't think so a s far as i can remember...

I'm general I think all English clubs have failed. Aside from Euro 96 and the World Cup in 90, England have been largely disappointing. The lack of young English talent in particular coming through the ranks is what prompted the introduction of the home grown rule. Of late, we've seen some young English talent come through the ranks as a result. Man Utd have Welbeck and maybe Cleverly, Chelsea has Sturridge, Arsenal have Wilshere and we have Kelly who is a regular for Stuart Pearce's side. I'm not talking about players who are out of loan of course, I'm referring to young talent in general. In terms of loan players, only a small percentage return to their original clubs and end up being regulars. I think this is true of any club whether in England or elsewhere. I'm pretty sure you can name a couple of success stories but for every one, there are many more we don't notice.

well, this sum up our season doesn't it. 3 of our "buy for the future" turn up in the list. I am actually surprise Carroll is not in there.

1 name is OK. 2 is bad. 3 of our latest signing turn up in the list is bad bad news. the combined cost of the 4 fella can buy a relegation club i think.
