Notes :

1. I applied a new layer of thermal paste for the processor itself, and the GPU, and cleared the excess thermal paste. I'll update the thread with temperature reports later with a new layer of thermal paste applied to see if there's any improvement in heat control.

Temperature Report : There isn't much difference in idle and load temperature.

If Windows tells you that your key is invalid, then reconfirm that the key you have copied from the Windows 7 license sticker underneath the laptop is correct. Once you have already established a connection to the internet, enter Control Panel -> System and scroll all the way to the bottom of the System page, and select re-activate Windows via phone after entering the activation wizard.

Windows 8 on the Acer V3-571G
user posted image

- Been running Windows 8 on my Acer V3-571G since 3 weeks back with no issues. Acer has provided the necessary drivers for users upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Everything works fine so far, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about if you're planning to upgrade to Windows 8, other than whether your games are compatible with the latest Microsoft operating system.

**Update: It has been more than 5 months since Windows 8 has been running on the originally Windows 7 based V3-571G. Still no issues so far. smile.gif

Acer V3-571G Windows 8 Upgrade from Windows 7 Drivers download.

For users who have bought their Acer V3-571G before Windows 8 came out, you get the necessary drivers from the Windows 8 Upgrade From Windows 7 page. The Windows 8 drivers page is for users of the latest V3-571G that comes pre-loaded with Windows 8 instead. Be sure to download the correct touchpad driver, otherwise the scrolling function may not work for Windows 8. If it doesn't work even after installing the touchpad driver provided by Acer, you probably installed the wrong one.

Where to get Windows 8

If you don't know where to get Windows 8 for your Acer V3-571G for only RM50, then follow the instructions here.

Register your details, and be sure to use any purchase date after the month June to be eligible to get the promotion code from Microsoft to get Windows 8 for only RM50. If Microsoft accepts your application, then you will receive an email to download the Windows Upgrade Assistant along with your promotion key.

Windows Media Center for Windows 8 for Free

For users who already gotten themselves a copy of Windows 8 Pro, if you're interested, Microsoft is giving away free keys for Windows Media Center for Windows 8 Pro users to enhance its popularity.

You can get the key here. Just give a valid email address and you'll be set. To activate WMC for your copy of Windows 8 Pro, follow the instructions given by Microsoft on the same page.

Graphics drivers
- Windows 8 should work fine even without the graphics driver installed as it should assign a basic driver after installation finishes. Get the latest Intel driver for the HD4000 GPU here. Use the driver utility from Intel to scan and obtain the latest driver. For the GT640M, you can get the latest driver from Geforce.com. If searching for WHQL drivers does not bring any up, then search for Beta drivers instead for the GT640M.

- For users with the updated V3-571G that comes with a GT730M instead, the driver can be downloaded from nVidia's website as well.

tongue.gif. RM2979 for mine with 8GB of RAM. RM3299 is definitely way overpriced unless they're throwing in useful stuff.

Anyway, hopefully this thread gets moved to the right section soon. doh.gif Always screwing up with it comes to such things.
Add-on. I bought mine for RM2899 from Evernew, Digital Mall. Looks like Low Yat's Evernew's trying to rip you off hmm.gif.

You were active overclocker, right?
Now you "jump ship" to notebook already? laugh.gif

Please post some benchmark results.
I would like to see how well the Ivy Bridge does.
It's time to test the CPU and GPU (both HD4000 and GT640, stock and overclocked speed).
SuperPI/3DMark/AIDA64 etc etc.

yeah, good deal. but i didn't get it yet due to several reasons; 1 of which being scared by another salesman that the unit offered may be a demo unit since Acer is yet to officially launch the model. so maybe i'll wait for the official launch to get it la tongue.gif

hmm.gif. I watched my attenders open a totally sealed box at the technical room / storage. The first Acer V3 that they took out looked pretty good. They were letting it prepare itself until I realized that the DVD cover wasn't perfectly in one straight line as the rest of the body. Asked them to get me another unit, and they took another sealed box from the storage and opened it too biggrin.gif. That would be the current unit I'm using.

Yes, the GT 640M is using DDR3 graphic memory.

Anyway, updated the benchmark again, this time with high graphical settings for Battlefield 3. Definitely much more playable than before, but still slightly laggy.

so basically what to check and see other then ask them on the laptop to see the spec...

Added on April 23, 2012, 3:58 amMr.TDUEnthusiast,

i think after the spec and price...i will go for this model as my 2nd laptop.
last time i was choosing Dell..but last minute Acer come out new model then i choose Acer.
But after 2 and half year Wireless not working and need direct connect cable to access internet. (after 2 week house get break in and stolen) sad.gif

so i worry about acer cant last for 4 years.
some said its depend on the user usage. for me i only use for game, movie, surf net, and working posting advertisment online ONLY.

Actually most the time i use with cooler pad together put under laptop.
so normally how you all take care about it?
avoid use it long hours? then how long suggested?
use until battery finished only charge?
do not use while charging?

Thx Thx...

Well... I generally do not use the battery if I have access to an AC outlet. I find most generic notebook coolers practically useless because of the fan used ( normally of poor design and quality ), so I'd suggest that you buy branded notebook coolers e.g ones from Cooler Master.

As for using the notebook to game, perhaps light / medium gaming would do. Extended hours of heavy gaming ( i.e games that are demanding e.g Battlefield 3 ), would be bad for the laptop due to the amount of heat generated. Try to minimize the amount of hours you perform heavy tasks on your laptop.

Updated BF3 benchmark. Looks like turning the graphical settings from Ultra to high, to medium doesn't bring much of a difference to the FPS. Switching off or turning down eye candies does bring a big improvement though. biggrin.gif

That's nice biggrin.gif. Do you want to be added into the owner list?

Anyway, I have heard stories of poor after-sales service from Sri Computers hmm.gif. Hopefully you won't have to return to them for anything. smile.gif

You can do so by navigating to Control Panel -> System & Security -> Create and format hard disk partitions. hmm.gif. You should be able to swap the drive letters by setting the DVD drive to have a different letter before setting it to E after giving the drive letter D to your second partition smile.gif.

I dealt with their after sales before when my old laptop's HDD failed on me. Immensely helpful is all I can say. Not only did they try everything in their power to determine whether it really is a HDD failure, they even opened another sealed laptop set so that they can burn the recovery discs for me. Maybe I was lucky but having experienced that, I'd vouch for them any time.

I'm using the laptop keyboard cover that was given to me for free, which unfortunately doesn't cover the whole keyboard, but at least covers the part that I normally use.

hmm.gif. It seems that my V3-571G will have the slow-motion windows animation issue when I have my mouse's wireless dongle or a USB device plugged in prior to starting it up ( cold start ). Could user(s) of the V3-571G confirm this by having a USB flash drive plugged into his/her V3-571G before starting it up when it's completely shut-down?

Add-on : I seem to experience this when running the notebook on battery power.
Update : Looks like my Microsoft wireless dongle may be the cause to the slow-motion issue.

I haven't gotten to the point of performing extreme gaming sessions since I already have a desktop for that. The processor's load temperature could reach to over 70C though, and that causes the part where the heat-sink and fan to be located at to be hot.

1. I haven't gotten to the point of loading my notebook's processor to over 75C. An anti-virus scan could cause its temperature to soar to around 70C easily though. I would definitely not recommend the use of the notebook for gaming without a proper cooling pad or at least with some gap between the surface it's sitting on and the ventilation holes.

2. hmm.gif You can choose to purchase an extra 2 years of warranty if you wish, especially if you take horror stories about Acer's quality very seriously. smile.gif

3. I have one minor issue with this notebook, and it's that my V3-571G has all the windows animation going in slow-motion if I have my Microsoft wireless dongle and/or a USB storage device plugged in during a cold-start ( also known as booting up completely from when it's not running). The problem could be lying with my own V3-571G only though as my friend has a similar notebook and his doesn't seem to have any issue smile.gif. It doesn't really affect anything though, as I can still plug the devices in after the notebook starts completely, though it's slightly of a hassle to be inserting and taking out any USB storage device / my mouse's wireless dongle every time.

Upon first usage of the V3-571G, you will be prompt to create a back up / recovery disc to restore the system to exactly when it was day one. You will need 4 DVDs for this.

All you have to do is to boot into bios by repeatedly pressing F2 before the Acer splash screen passes, and set the system to search the DVD drive first for any possible files to boot from before moving on to other drives via the Boot tab. After that's done, insert the recovery DVDs, reboot and it should automatically bring you into the recovery set up, or if it doesn't, then press any key if you see the message prompting you to do so to enter the set up after the Acer splash screen.

The V3-571G does run hot when playing games, and it is expected since it is using an Ivy Bridge processor, which can run rather hot smile.gif.

i managed to install Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3, got a lot of problems and but still follow up now:

(1) MBR dual boot (win7 OEM, Mac) on single HDD - OK
(2) keyboard, USB mouse, trackpad - OK
(3) ethernet - OK
(4) wireless - NOT OK
(5) sound - OK
(6) display - use default resolution (1024x768) -- Intel HD 4000 Graphics so far is not supported by Mac OS X

Hope this help.

P/S: you can use system info from olarila.com to check status and to download drivers (http://olarila.com/kexts/) after installed MacOS X

then how? need a air con for it?  shocking.gif
nd my AC adeptor hot too when play game...coz i not using battery.
will harm the life spen or not for V3?
*
Well, high heat does cause components' life span to lower, but your notebook should last you for quite some time if quality components are used. It is expected for your AC adapter to be hot since it's supplying power smile.gif. hmm.gif. Running your notebook in an air-conditioned room does help too, but you don't have to worry too much as long as you have a good cooling system for it. You can choose to limit your notebook processor's maximum load state to to help keep temperatures in check, or if you want to do something about the heat, then you can open it up to replace the thermal material. It is pretty hard to open the V3-571G though.

Updated the thread with photos of the V3-571G internals biggrin.gif. Disassembling the V3-571G is pretty easy now that I have managed to get it apart. You'll shit-brix at first when trying to open it since you don't know exactly what's holding the stuff together until you manage to get the parts to pop out one by one biggrin.gif.

Lifespan for the V3-571G is subjective, so if you get one, yours may last for over 4 years, or less than 4 years. smile.gif

hmm.gif. The notebook can reach to over 80C. I got up to 80C playing Company Of Heroes, but this is with Turbo Boost enabled. The processor normally goes up to 3.3GHz automatically upon loading games.

Like I have said before, it is actually very dependent on your luck. hmm.gif. But yes, running heavy programs all the time does tax the notebook, and can generate a lot of heat.

hmm.gif. Are you using the plastic tab for the left click or the touchpad area? If it's the touchpad area, then yes, it's pretty sensitive by default and can prove to be annoying at times, but you can set the touchpad's sensitivity by pressing the mini ^ on the bottom right of your V3-571G, and by double clicking the mini smart-pad picture found at the pop up window to set the touchpad's sensitivity.

It shouldn't be like that. Mine does require some force before it clicks. Perhaps you should contact your reseller for an exchange.

Updated thread with a guide on how to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on the V3-571G. It is highly recommended for users of the Aspire V3-571G who are experiencing issues with it e.g slow-motion boot up. It seems that the software that Acer has included with the V3-571G can create conflicts on certain V3-571G, thus creating problems like slow-motion boot up.

Under light to heavy loads, the heat is not noticeable for the palm resting areas as well as most part of the keyboard, it is just slightly warm. The part above the CPU heat-sink does get slightly hot though under load, but with a keyboard protector it should be totally unnoticeable.

advise to get one of those laptop cooler fans that attach to side vents. was very effective with my previous 5475G, which had roughly the same vent location, shape and size of the V3-571G.

2 Quick questions to all the sifus out there:

1) I want to upgrade my RAM. How do i do this without voiding my warranty?

2) Anyone manage to pick up a keyboard gel cover yet?

Got the V3-471G Olympic already~

The speaker grill above the keyboard is gimmick? lol..
Speakers are actually below the palm rest.

The temps on idle and while burning recovery disc seems good, even the HDD. Palm rest, touchpad, keyboard surface temps is not that noticable. (Without cooler pad) Better than my 6935G with coolerpad thumbup.gif

hmm.gif I did ask the sales person about the notebook's warranty if I proceed to upgrade the RAM, but he told me it'll be fine even without the warranty stickers over the screws securing the cover over the hard disk drive and RAM. We could just act clueless and blame it all on the salesmen, can't we? icon_idea.gif

I ran Furmark and it seems that it mentioned (THROTTLING: -322MHz) This is not a good sign?
GT630M max temp was 92c

UPDATE:

I did a fresh installation of Windows 7 HP X64, burned apps & drivers via Acer eRecovery.

GeForce GT630M Specs.
Attached Image

3DMark 11

Compared scores of overall and gpu with scores at Notebookcheck quite similar laugh.gif

After FIFA Online 2

Played well, no throttle felt.

After Blackshot
Attached Image
Most of the time good, some slight lag (could be due to server/internet)

Would like to ask whether the CPU of this machine I'd able to handle Lightroom4 smoothly or not? Let's say compare the processing power of this laptop against a desktop i5-3550k

TDUEnthusiast, need your input here smile.gif

And also whether the GT640M would be able to play most games at 1080p?

Planning to either get another laptop (current laptop slow) or get a desktop. Consideration for laptop is because I will be going to Aussie in July next year for studies (1year) lolz. If I get a desktop then I'll use the slow lappie to bring overseas.

hmm.gif. The GT 640M on the V3-571G is quite decent, and it should play most games at 1920x1080 fine, but most likely with a mix of mid-high graphical settings or just medium depending on the game with or without extra eye candies like AA / AF and et cetera on.

Anyway, based on this and this, the Intel Core i7 3610QM is comparable to an Intel Core i5 2500K or even faster, but slightly slower than an Intel Core i5 3550K. It is therefore considered as pretty powerful, and should have no problems in running Lightroom 4.

Updated thread with disassembling guide.

Temperature Report : It seems that even with a new layer of thermal paste ( Arctic Cooling MX-4 ), the working temperature of the laptop hasn't changed much, which leads me to believe that it's either Acer has used a thermal paste of the same grade, or that the performance of the cooling system is bottlenecked by the small vents around the V3-571G.

Just installed and tested Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection . apart from a slight wait for startup for a few apps like Indesign ( around 10-5 seconds more compared to the other apps ), everything runs smoothly.

Thanks TDUEnthusiast smile.gif Is the keyboard area and palm rest hot? I'm having a nightmare with my Dell SXPS 16 now, it's glossy and the keyboard area is always quite hot. Quite unbearable without a cooler and not to mention it's kinda "sticky" if you know what I mean.

There's switchable graphics right? Between the GT640m and the HD4000? smile.gif

Yes, the default GPU that is used is the HD4000, while the GT 640M is kicked into action when you start playing games. smile.gif

Anyway, no, the keyboard area and the palm rest area is always cool or slightly warm biggrin.gif. I find the palm rest area to be pretty fine in terms of stickiness, i.e not getting too sticky to be unbearable, but of course wiping of the surface with a slightly damp cloth is recommended from time to time biggrin.gif.

thanks for the link, TDUEnthusiast. I still haven't managed to get sonic to work, but i did find some updated drivers for the 640 GT. They're the ones for the Aspire V3-7710G, but work great on on my v3-571G

1. Go here:

2. download the nvidia vga driver.

Base on the photo you open up the V3-571G

Its that possible the change the harddisk without open up like you did ?

I plan to replace it with a SSD drive.

It doesn't look large and blurry, in fact it's pretty nice and sharp. Gaming wise the screen does well. biggrin.gif

Try looking for it in the Garage Sales section. smile.gif Otherwise you can try referring to Acer themselves, or pay a visit to one of the many shops in Low Yat Plaza.

You should install all three drivers provided. Two of them are for the nVidia GPU, while the last one's for the Intel HD3000. smile.gif

Each screen will run at their maximum resolution unless you set it to run at some different resolution. smile.gif

updated to the latest nvidia drivers, much more stable, but since i've been using my baby less this month, can't tell if the bsod problem has been completely fixed.

@ powx84 :
connected both a 23 inch 16:9 and 17 inch 4:3 as secondary monitors in both clone and extended desktops mode with no problems. however need to set each screen's resolution manually lar, it doesn't auto set to the highest reso available for both.

Added on July 11, 2012, 9:23 pmhm... seems there are new beta drivers out :

I'm currently using the latest beta nVidia driver. So far so good, and it seems like the occasional blackness that befalls Company of Heroes when I'm playing it on the V3-571G has been solved.

You'll definitely want to add more RAM. It may not solve your problem though.

Anyway, is windows booting up fairly long? If it seems pretty much normal to you, then the hard disk is probably fine and the problem may lie with the amount of RAM you have after all. Otherwise if Windows booting up is really slow, then you may want to check the hard disk for errors.

Hello fella's,

I'm an owner of a Acer v3-471G. i5 ivy, GT630M

During idle state, without a cooling-pad, while on battery, does the fan ever stop? like does it stop for a while and then start again; or does it spin continuously?

With the laptop set to "power saver" plan, and with the CPU cooling set to "passive" in the power plan settings, does the fan still spin continuously?

Can all you post your acers' temperatures during Idle-state, internet browsing only, and torrent download only, running on battery set to "power saver plan. Without using a cooling-pad, on a flat surface, both in an air conditioned area and non air conditioned area, and the program you used. This would help many users to know when something is going wrong or when it is starting to go wrong.

After installing the Acer crystal eye webcam program, does the webcam image get darkened? and what is the resolution of the camera? I know it says HD webcam but the quality seems very poor for a 1.3MP.
Can all of you take one picture of something using the webcam in a well lit/daytime area and post it as a sample.

Thank you all of you fellow Acers

Thanks for adding me in. I've owned mine since May actually, though I never knew there was an owners club for it.

Will be adding an ssd soon- the standard hard disk is the only weak link in this laptop IMO.

And another 4gb of ram- the original is Hyundai. Anyone know of any incompatibilities if I plug in another 4gb of Kingston?

as for the webcam blackening problem, just on your webcam, click on the video enhancement button which looks like an eye, at the bottom left corner, then click advance and then camera control and finally tick the low light compensation..hope that helps..

No incompatibilities on adding another 4gb of kingston ram, just did that myself the moment i bought the laptop at the store itself. works fine, windows reports 8gb but says only 7.84gb is usable... usually the case with any combination of ram even if its the same ones, even on different machines. probably some memory has been allocated to the intel gpu.

The "eye" button is only present on the Acer crystal eye webcam software, i also managed to solve the grainy fuzzing dots by increasing the noise reduction. But does this solution have effect on skype to improve my video capture?

and as for your network connectivity problem, what is the wirelefss adapter model present in your acer? Most Atheros cards have shitty connection ability.

Your issue sounds like it may be related to a bad hard disk. As for the connectivity issue the wireless card itself may be going bad as well. You should bring it back to the service center to get them checked and replaced accordingly.

see if your fan does pause when the machine is idle. most laptops are suppose to, specially with ivy bridge, its a power-saving feature since the fan does take a lot of power. My samsung NP350V4X does pause its fan.

Have you monitored any of your temperatures? i used realtemp and gpu-z, playing battlefield 3 the temps highest 88-91c gpu; cpu 88c

let me know your idle temps as well, once u have rested the machine for about 30mins or more.

OK, doing some testing now. The fan at idle does pause, at least I can't feel it nor hear it. Temps at idle are GPU: 42c, Core 0: 55c, Core 1: 52c, Core 2: 46c, Core 3: 48c.

Next will stress it with some games.

Wow. So this is the only active(semi) owners club for these V3's i've found!

Anyway, Owners of a v3-771g-9875
Only upgraded the harddrive so far, with a vertex3. Man I love this laptop!

Anyone know if the wifi/bluetooth card's are switchable?

Would hate to order an intel one to use WiDi(wireless display) and find out there is a white list in the bio's for the network cards.

The whole Discussion section for Notebook is rather quiet for most threads.

Anyway, I just installed Windows 8 on my V3-571G. No problems encountered so far. Acer seems to have all the drivers ready for it, except for some e.g the USB 3 driver but everything's working fine.

How much is it priced at? Anyway, 2GB of RAM is rather little by current standards. Since RAM is dirt cheap now, you can upgrade to 8GB if you want, and perhaps negotiate to have it thrown in with the laptop without any surcharge.

try upgrade ram to 4gb or 6gb when it can support up 4gb per slot. then using tune-up utilities check for errors, set up the profile and make sure you have done with latest update, and at nvidia GPU activity monitor add sims3 with recommended setting..

Just wondering how I can flash my bios to UEFI. I'm building a hackintosh for this laptop and I have sound and network but lacking the Intel HD 4000 support, need to do some changes to the UEFI settings..

hmm.gif. If I'm not mistaken, the UEFI bios is only available for the latest V3-571G that comes with the Intel Core i7-3630QM, based on the available bios files located on Acer's website for the V3-571G.

hmm.gif? I'm not sure how Moutain Lion works, but I'm sure that the bios screen always appear before the O/S loads. Even if it's not the UEFI version there should be a setting inside the bios to allow you to adjust the integrated GPU memory amount.

V 1.07. I did also upgrade to the latest one (not the 2.xx coz that is for UEFI) but still the same.
I did a search for InsydeH2O bios unlock and it seems that there are a lot of hidden options, but you have to flash them to get them >.<

I've run Backtrack 4 and 5 before on V3 571G. I used LiveCD and USB and both works well. I never tried ubuntu or fedora. I also did try a USB linux application, GParted, which is part of ubuntu, and that boots well.

What software did you use to create the USB?

Anyways,

I am experiencing overheating with this laptop. Since I purchase, whenever I run games or other high end software (HD media players etc2), the laptop get very hot pretty quickly, usually below 15 mins. I get scared some of the inner components might burn.

Is this usual? It gets kinda laggy too (especially games)

For the temperature, it does seem to be normal for it to reach pretty high temperatures. I haven't gotten the processor to go pass 90C yet though as far as I remember. It can reach 80C easily though even when the load's average.

Do you use yours with a notebook cooler anyway? If yes, then perhaps there's a need for one with a stronger fan. Alternatively when the laptop's out of warranty, perhaps you could experiment by removing the CPU vent guard laugh.gif. I don't game much anymore on the laptop because of its inability to stay at a not-so-worrying temperature, but it should be fine to use it at over 80C.

Anyway, download a copy of HWMonitor and leave it running in the background while you game. Then share a screenshot of the results and I'll see if something doesn't seem right.

I don't use a cooler but when I play games I just put something under the back of the laptop to raise it up.

Below is the stats before gaming. Just usual activity, chrome/skype,AV etc2.

Yeah, that's pretty hot hmm.gif. Mine hovers around 50C only for web surfing and other light usage. But it could possibly be because of the change in thermal paste I did a few months back.

Add-on : I also just put it on the cooler without plugging the fans in. The lowest it can go is about 40C, non air-conditioned room.

A UEFI bios looks like this :

user posted image

Other than looking much better than the usual bios setup, it also allows you to select things using the mouse.

Anyway, I believe that the UEFI bios is only compatible with the latest Acer laptop models that come with Windows 8 by default. You won't be able to switch to a UEFI bios from a standard bios.

Well, in that case your laptop should be eligible for the bios upgrade then since it's not in the upgrade from Win 7 category. hmm.gif Download the file and see what it says.

I noticed that the laptop sometimes fail to detect that a game requires a level of graphics processing power more than what the HD4000 can handle, and does not set the game to run on the GT640M. If you're facing lag issues with your games, you can try setting the games manually to run on the GT640M via the nVidia control panel.

If you insist on a RAM compatible list, you can try asking it from Acer's support.

Any standard SODIMM Value RAM will do, but there's always the chance of incompatibility due to a manufacturing defect, or if the RAM module is "like that". laugh.gif

Your friend may have negotiated for the extra RAM to be added for free. I don't think it's standard since Acer lists even the latest V3-571G with only 4GB of RAM by default. 2GB of RAM is very cheap anyway, and the V3-571G comes with only one 4GB stick.

It won't reflect in your dxdiag. But if you want to use Nvidia as default, go to the Nvidia control panel > Global settings> Preferred graphics Processor and select the Nvidia.

My is initially 4, but the shop free upgrade for me to 8 thumbup.gif

BY THE WAY, Today I notice got once screw come out from the back blink.gif
The top left screw below (right under the power button).

I never applied any pressure to it, and also never unscrew before, and no shock before la.
All I can think of is the laptop too hot (especially that part, the hottest) and the plastic expand then the screw drop off. shocking.gif

hmm.gif. I think Acer updated the information for the latest V3-571G model not long ago, since I recall seeing the standard memory amount as 4GB the last time I saw it for the i7-3630QM V3-571G.

Am using Windows 8 on my V3-571G. No lag issue. You can try solving your issue by going to nVidia Control panel -> Manage 3D settings -> Set Graphics processor: nVidia high performance

I'm not so updated with the offers for the latest V3-571G, so I can't help you with that. But I can suggest that you head from store to store at Digital Mall and/or Low Yat Plaza for the best offer smile.gif.

Anyway, the V3-571G does run rather hot under average load, i.e it can reach to over 80C easily at times. It should not be suffering overheating issues though.

I a V5 and then switched it to the V3. Forked out an additional RM1000+ but so far am happy with it. I pumped in another 8GB 'cos I bought that with my V5.

Anyway, I wanted to know - anybody upgraded the 1TB to SSD? Or anyone upgraded their hdd to SSD?

I can feel the i7 is a bit warm. Some more with a 4GB graphics card.

My favourite thing about my laptop - it's the screen! the matte full hd screen is so lovely.

Mine has a 120GB SSD from Intel. smile.gif Definitely a must have addition to the laptop unless you require storage space, though external HDDs can alleviate that problem easily. And yes, the V3-571G has a GPU with 2GB of VRAM, not 4GB.

Old model maybe, but not the new one. V3-571G now has a Full HD Screen and a 730M with 4GB Discrete Ram.

The reason why so many are considering IPS screen vs the standard TN screen is because IPS screen has

1. Better pop to the colour (i.e you feel the colour much more 'alive')
2. No shifting when you change viewpoints.

I would say that it is really hard to discern the difference between the two, even with using the same wallpaper as I looked at it.

Again, I also believe there is no use comparing the Y400 (of which the GT650m only needs to drive a lower resolution) to this V3 which has to drive a full HD screen. That said - I've been playing Skyrim on the notebook, and so far, so good.

The laptop already comes with NVIDIA graphics, and as far as I know there is no requirement for the bios to be downgraded to version 2.xx for you to be able to use NVIDIA graphics.

The system also comes with Optimus, so your drivers all must be Optimus aware, if not it will default to Intel HD 4000.

Why on earth Acer equips this beast with only 1 USB3 port? Totally fail. BTW, any way to add more USB3 port? How is the battery life? Will it too heavy to carry around? How much to extend the warranty period?

The laptop itself is not too heavy to carry around, but you will definitely feel that it's there. I'm believe you can add more USB 3 ports by getting a USB 3 hub, but bear in mind that the bandwidth will be shared by all the devices connected to that USB 3 hub. smile.gif For warranty extension period I'd suggest that you refer to your retailer or Acer themselves. I can't help you with that as I didn't purchase the warranty extension package as far as I can remember.

What problem are you facing with the keyboard? hmm.gif Try checking the power settings for your current laptop via the battery icon on the lower right of the screen, and set it to balanced or high performance to see if that helps. If it's already at either one of those settings, the performance issue could be due to one or more of the software that came pre-loaded with your V5-471G.

Have you tried consulting the shop you bought your laptop from? The battery may be faulty, or there could be problems with the charging circuit.

I cant consult to the shop that i bought because my bro bought it from Aussie. I can assure you that the battery is okay. Today it wont charge at all when i plugged the charger i had to wait 5 minutes and it charges for about a few seconds and the power LED will continuously blink.

If they (Acer) know that your laptop has been opened before, the warranty will probably be voided. Whatever happens, just act dumb and say it just doesn't work as it should be if anything happens laugh.gif.

I just got my V3-571G with the i7-3630QM, 730m with 4GB and FHD 1080 IPS panel. I must say, I'm pretty happy with the performance of the laptop!! I went laptop browsing again, and one PC shop in Kuching actually showed a V3-571G with a 740M gpu!! Are they going to swap all the cards now to 740?

It may be an updated model, but I don't see any updates on Acer Malaysia and Acer US's website. Perhaps you actually saw the older version of the V3-571G, which has a GT640M and an Intel Core i7-3610QM instead? smile.gif

just checked the Acer S3-391-53314G52 Ultrabook at the SenQ The Mines, selling for RM2099 (PlusOne club member price)

is this model ok? the speakers look very small, but I like the thinness, lightweight, and can get SSD+core i5 at this price

It'd be a better idea to ask in the laptops recommendation thread at the Mobile Computing section. smile.gif

Hey! I was thinking of getting this laptop. The price is nice for the specs. Love that 4GB card! Question: How do you find it so far eh? I currently have an Aspire 4920, runs pretty hot cry.gif Upgraded the RAM from 2- 4GB last June as I intended to use it a bit longer cool2.gif Its high time for me to change already, no dedicated GPU and all lol.

I was thinking of getting an ASUS but then I saw the V3- 571G. Waiting for the Haswell chips to be released too before making any decision. Please let me know what you make of this laptop yeah.. Thankss!! rclxm9.gif

Acer refreshed the v3 line with Aspire V3-772G.

It looks good and the price is ok I think, but still no word of launch yet.

Hey!!! I would say I'm happy with the performance so far!! It meets my basic gaming needs and so far I'm able to run most games to my satisfaction. If I didn't require this for work, I would definitely have waited for the Haswell chips, but I heard only the higher-end Haswell's GPU's would truly make a difference.

The things I love about it are:

1) Gorgeous IPS FHD Panel rclxm9.gif
2) Good performing GPU for it's price and performance smile.gif
3) Comes with 8gb of DDR3 ram (will be upgrading it to 16gb soon)
4) Great processor for price point
5) Good speakers for a laptop
6) Comes with a numpad (I do alot of excel spread sheets and calculations! Lol!)

Things I don't like (or wished it had)

1) Laptop itself is cool to warm during gaming but emits alot of heat from the side hmm.gif
2) Not a backlit keyboard
3) Chassis is prone to flex, not as rigid as my Lenovo T420 (although it's unfair to compare with a business laptop but the difference is obvious)
4) Small gaps in between screen frame and panel (might be prone to dust entering) doh.gif
5) Battery life is just average (with power saver i get just under 3 hours)

Overall impressions are great, the negatives are just my nitpicking. I picked it over other laptops due to the IPS screen (just can't go back to TN after this), the 4gb of VRAM is great for my photo editing and spreadsheets (although redundant in gaming). Would I recommend it to moderate gamers? Yeap! Photographers? Yeap!

Future upgrades will be changing the optical drive slot into a hdd and adding in a SSD!!! thumbup.gif

the 650m does have a higher clock speed and uses DDR5 Ram instead of DDR3 in the 730m
