Hello fella's,

I'm an owner of a Acer v3-471G. i5 ivy, GT630M

During idle state, without a cooling-pad, while on battery, does the fan ever stop? like does it stop for a while and then start again; or does it spin continuously?

With the laptop set to "power saver" plan, and with the CPU cooling set to "passive" in the power plan settings, does the fan still spin continuously?

Can all you post your acers' temperatures during Idle-state, internet browsing only, and torrent download only, running on battery set to "power saver plan. Without using a cooling-pad, on a flat surface, both in an air conditioned area and non air conditioned area, and the program you used. This would help many users to know when something is going wrong or when it is starting to go wrong.

After installing the Acer crystal eye webcam program, does the webcam image get darkened? and what is the resolution of the camera? I know it says HD webcam but the quality seems very poor for a 1.3MP.
Can all of you take one picture of something using the webcam in a well lit/daytime area and post it as a sample.

Thank you all of you fellow Acers

Will be adding an ssd soon- the standard hard disk is the only weak link in this laptop IMO.

And another 4gb of ram- the original is Hyundai.  Anyone know of any incompatibilities if I plug in another 4gb of Kingston?

No incompatibilities on adding another 4gb of kingston ram, just did that myself the moment i bought the laptop at the store itself. works fine, windows reports 8gb but says only 7.84gb is usable... usually the case with any combination of ram even if its the same ones, even on different machines. probably some memory has been allocated to the intel gpu.

as for the webcam blackening problem, just on your webcam, click on the video enhancement button which looks like an eye, at the bottom left corner, then click advance and then camera control and finally tick the low light compensation..hope that helps..

The "eye" button is only present on the Acer crystal eye webcam software, i also managed to solve the grainy fuzzing dots by increasing the noise reduction. But does this solution have effect on skype to improve my video capture?

and as for your network connectivity problem, what is the wirelefss adapter model present in your acer? Most Atheros cards have shitty connection ability.

Thanks for the quick reply. In goes another 4gb ram, and hoping to buy an Intel 330 128gb too.

SGT76, During idle state, without a cooling-pad, while on battery, does the fan ever stop? like does it pause and then start again after a while; or does it spin continuously even until your battery is finished?

Hmm, I never really realized that. I've used mine all the time with a CM notebook cooler cause the GT640m gets real hot while gaming.

see if your fan does pause when the machine is idle. most laptops are suppose to, specially with ivy bridge, its a power-saving feature since the fan does take a lot of power. My samsung NP350V4X does pause its fan.

Have you monitored any of your temperatures? i used realtemp and gpu-z, playing battlefield 3 the temps highest 88-91c gpu; cpu 88c

let me know your idle temps as well, once u have rested the machine for about 30mins or more.

OK, doing some testing now. The fan at idle does pause, at least I can't feel it nor hear it.  Temps at idle are GPU: 42c, Core 0: 55c, Core 1: 52c, Core 2: 46c, Core 3: 48c.

Next will stress it with some games.

Whats your specs btw? wow my fan never pauses, even when nothing is running and i'm not using it, can always feel air flow from the fan

thanks, i appreciate you testing out your machine
