Look man, I wasn't trying to be rude/patronizing, just have a polite discussion.

Just from my POV:

a) Calisthenics won't really have as much carry over to the lifts as you think - like for example being able to do 100 push ups (1 armed or not) may not necessarily improve your bench.
b) If you go for looks (physique wise) then calisthenics may be a lot slower than free weights.
c) One last thing to consider (from my own personal experience) is if you start off with calisthenics then move to free weights and bulk up then you will find your calisthenics ability significantly reduced.

Take my own example for ©. At 67kgs I could do 20 pull ups consecutively and do a muscle up. At 75kgs, 12 pull ups is about my limit (and even then the form of the last two will suck ballz) and I am pretty sure I can't do a muscle up.

Your calisthenics level is higher than me - but do be aware that if you pack on some 5-10kg of LBM, you may lose some ability. Maybe you should consider things from the opposite way: strength/size priority first, then when you reach a level you are happy with, switch to highly-focused on calisthenics.

IMHO, I find it easier to maintain size/strength than to put it on. So, lets say you are 62kgs and want to reach 70kgs ideally - you bulk on the 8kgs now, focus a little more on free weights, then when you hit your target, switch more to calisthenics training and you may be able to retain majority of the muscle you gained easier.

I did 25 chin ups at one go. =P

Well, continue with your deads and squats. In a couple of months (with good diet of course), you'll have a much better looking body than all of them. Then they'll start doing them.
*
Not necessarily. It's diet that matters. I see several people in my gym who deadlift and squat but don't have impressive development. It's not how much you lift but how much you look like you can lift. Most young guys who deny it aren't telling the truth. Almost everyone wants to look like they can lift.

Sorry boss. Ok, the 2013 bulk starts today!
*
Lol it's not about the bulking. It's where you want to be. People who follow cookie cutters or the masses have no soul in their workouts. Trust me, the group i bump into regularly don't really look like they lift. Lol. Learn to tweak and customize.

QUOTE(Arrio @ Jan 21 2013, 12:44 PM)
Sometimes many people do not know their stand-point in BB. In other words not sure their goal, be it in physique or strength. I saw some are overly built, out of proportion and symmetry. Anyway gotta agree that nothing beats a proper nutrition food intake.

Be in cutting/bulking phase, both are equally important so that the next cycle would be easier... smile.gif
*
No matter how good or reputable a lifting program is, nothing...... nothing will be achieved without a proper diet. Some individuals overdo protein, some overdo carbs, fats, etc. Too much protein isn't a good thing. The concept of maxing out protein has been propagated too often by supplement companies and i see youngsters chugging in whey shakes during gym, after gym, before bed. Meh....

I'm not anti supps but more like pro natural food.

Guys, this may be a newbie question but what do you guys think bout splitting 6 meals to smaller portion and eat or just 3 basic meals to boost metabolism. I read alot of articles some say 3 basic meals is equivalent to 6 meals in smaller portion, some say 6 meals smaller portion better for metabolism.

QUOTE(joeblows @ Jan 25 2013, 09:49 PM)
Yup, it is useless.

Poor results for BBing, and not optimal for PLing.

Bottomline, if your goals are:
BBing: Do NOT do SS, do a bodypart split
PLing: Do NOT do SS, do 5-3-1.

Stay away from SS, it is a waste of time.

You take 2 guys, same build (lets say skinnyfat); 1 guy does SS, 1 guy does trad BB bodypart split, 6 months later, guess who looks better assuming all other factors are consistent?

Yep.
*
QUOTE(-Dan @ Jan 25 2013, 10:39 PM)
I agree with this. I prefer the 5-3-1 concept over SS.
*
Neither disagreeing nor agreeing. Just curious. Why this preference? To tell you guys the truth I have never been on a cookie cutter strength program anyway.
