i'm quite underweight.. for now i just play with my 5kg dumbell.. should i start with cardio first?
*
Playing with a 5kg dumbbell is like playing with yourself. It doesn't make a difference. Get heavier weights.

Srs question. Why only love for bench, squat and deadlift and not the other compound movements. Enthusiasm for OHP and clean and press and lunges seems rather muted here........
*
Because it's a bodybuilding thread and those exercises you mention are inferior to bodybuilding style exercises for building good shoulders?

Good lord, guys today i went to the gym rakyat where i usually train, i never do before dead lifts and never do before squats, my original workout is bench press dead lifts and squats. I ask for mentor on dead lifts, the guy says dead lifts is pretty dangerous, newbie should start basic ._., i tell him my workout routine for today he was like huh shocked says why all 3 extreme exercise, i also dunno how to react just smile nod nod nod. but he manage to teach me squats which i never do, hamstrings really sore now.
Wish someone could teach me deadlifts T.T
*
The trainer isn't wrong or right. What he's trying to say is you can still build up a physique without those 3 but it might be suboptimal.

Well, that's one of the reason I'm considering fb. My diet is, well, you can say that it's very messed up. Going to take quite a while to fix. FYI, I'm 169cm and weighing at 94+kg, and I kinda need to lose the fats fast. Or am I being greedy?

brother darklight, whats your tips and staple exercises to increase your strength.
you progressed from benching an empty Oly bar to 6 plates  notworthy.gif

Eh... Smith 6 plates. I can't free weight bench. And I just lift. Every session try to increase either reps or weight. Go in slow increments. Consistency is the key.

Video. You're starting to piss me off. And i rarely get pissed off in the forums. Your claims of your bench poundage have been around for a long time with nothing to back it up and as a consequence you have lost all credibility. From now on shut up about your bench until you take a video.

all i have now is a video probably a few months where i tried doing 92.5kg for doubles ( where i fail on second rep )

the picture that i screenshot last time was actually a video and after showing off the videos IRL to some friends the video is corrupted and some shit before poof
*
Excuses. Do you know what is the difference between you and me? It's not about poundages or physique. I post vids of what poundages I claim I do. You never, ever do. This is why EVERYONE is calling you on on credibility. You have only done this to yourself.

Ok, lets give you the benefit of doubt. Take another video again then.

QUOTE(whatdamn @ Dec 14 2012, 06:18 AM)
can you detail what is the protein content of your shake? let's say your daily protein intake should be 200g, if 1 serving of your shake gives you 20g of protein, you now have to make up that remaining 180g from some other protein sources (whole foods come to mind) such as chicken, beef, pork and/or fish.

another point to consider if you're looking to make weight, you'll need to meet your daily caloric requirement. take the 200g of protein mentioned above which gives you 800kcal. Let's say your daily calories should hover around 3000kcal so, you've got 2200kcal to split between fats and carbohydrates. if you were to go 50/50 on both, you'd be looking at consuming 275g of carbs and 113g of fat per day.

looks like you've another 10-15kg to put on. better start working on it by eating more. don't overthink it.
*
You don't need as much protein as you think you do. Carbs are muscle sparing. Calories > macros

QUOTE(zoraya @ Jan 7 2013, 11:45 PM)
Trainers at my new gym instructed me to do weighted side bends, lat pulldown behind the head, and this exercise with the light barbell (usually for bodypump) across my shoulder then swing for 5 mins. Also, we hit every muscle group just now except for legs  shocking.gif They also said I should do light weight cause I'm a girl,... so I burn fat and don't build muscle. And that I have to do strength training exercise three days in a row baru break.

The lead trainer looked offended when I said I would like to continue with my own program (from a book - more compound movement rather than isolation). I'm not wrong though, am I? I still am relatively chubby and still a noob in lifting, but I read a lot about it....

also I'm angry I have to swing for 5 mins. Felt like an idiot  mad.gif

I agree, it's more of a "skill" and foundational strength training, rather than training pure brute force. Thinking of adding removable plate dumbbells for some of my routine. Going to a fitness shop can make me feel self conscious eventhough I know I am strong for my size, I can't go to the gym unless I have a training partner to share my pain.  laugh.gif

I could do 15 but stopped there for reps. Progressed to type writer and archer pullups.
Try "grease the groove" method. It works wonders for pullups. It trains your body to recruit more muscle fibres.

Currently doing work on one arm chin and used the GTG method for assisted ones. Just yesterday I was able to do a negative and lock half way for 5 seconds then slowly lower to a dead hang. That was only after 2 weeks of GTG towel assisted. Tried it again today to make sure that wasn't a one-time-fluke thing, and I was able to repeat that feat for both arms.
Look, I am trying to stay neutral here alright. I have already said that I AM NOT AGAINST WEIGHTLIFTING!!
Okay, I'll give you an example, would I be better off lifting twice my bodyweight and the move on to a pistol squat, or the other way around? A lot of people can do twice body weight squats but they will find it more difficult to go to pistol, because it requires flexibility in the non-working leg and balance and control on the working leg so you don't blow out your knee and hip. It is that training effect that I'm training to achieve, full control of my skeletal mechanisms in any situation.

Gymnasts train their SKILLS FIRST!! and then SUPPLEMENT their training with weights. My most favourite athletes in the world are gymnasts and MMA wrestlers, and yes they all lift weights. Get over it, I know that fact!

A gymnast moving on to weights will still have their skills with added strength. A weight lifter can train to be almost (key word, almost) as mobile, but what is wrong with calisthenics first weights later? I'm hoping I'd be able to do a one arm chin until I reach my weight goal, but can I progress as fast if I reached my weight goal first then a one-arm chin? I can practically row my weight with one arm when I'm able to reach that feat.

Just because with body weight training it's more difficult to add resistance doesn't mean it is impossible. You just need to be creative about it.
Again, my ultimate goal is to be an ALL ROUNDER athlete with some size gains. I am not, I repeat, I AM NOT AGAINST free weights training at all. I only would like to have the "basics" of calisthenics pinned down so I could later add weight to them and follow other free weights training program. How freaking hard is that to understand?!

Brother. I know you're a cool fella and I'm saying it with a smile. Just shut up and lift.

Nah, I didn't mean it that way. If you're referring to certain lifts being a skill, it applies to bodybuilding too bro. A bench press and chin up is also a movement which requires skill, i.e CNS adaptation but i don't want to delve into CNS force proprioreception and shit cos am in carb coma nao.
