I have a lot of lego when I was young. I like to create new things and make something different. I always a day long.

It cost my parent a lot. I gave all to my cousin already during my secondary school

In those days I always dreamt of getting myself enough of the city-themed sets for me to build a Lego town that can cover up my bedroom's entire floorspace. And the electric trainset that I can fix along the furnitures and walls for the freight to go round and round the house. laugh.gif That was then, of course.

Anyway, my last official Lego was the 1994 Lego Technic Black Lamborghini (Lego model number 8880). I still have fun fiddling with its 4-speed gear system. tongue.gif

Lego isn't my primary passion these days (got evolved into Gundam) but I still wouldn't forget how Lego nurtured my creative side long ago. Once in a while when I pass by the 'kiddie section' in departmental stores I stop and scope out Lego's latest releases and think about how much has it progressed with new ideas and designs. Videogames and such may be the chow of the children nowdays, but I will always believe that Lego be able to stand up, never faltering in the face of this generational challenge. flex.gif notworthy.gif

I played with LEGO when I was younger. Up til form3 I was having fun with self built robots, planes etc. Strangely the models that LEGO provided never help much of an interest for me. I actually built a huge model of a Madcat (from Mechwarrior) that took me nearly two sets of LEGO. Man those were the days.

Makes me wonder why I ever stopped. Oh yeah, girls. Bah, now that I think about it I made a bad choice.

Live From CES: Lego Mindstorms NXT

user posted image

The latest and greatest iteration of Lego's robotic toolkits debuted today at CES. The new NXT "brick" is a 32-bit microprocessor that can be programmed using a PC or, for the first time, a Mac. It's Bluetooth enabled, which makes the instructions you plug into the LabView software easy to transfer to your bot, and even control it from a PDA or mobile phone. It's got three servo motors with inbuilt rotation sensors for precise speed control (one of the demo units on display walked quite fluidly). An ultrasonic sensor lets the robot see, it will recognize sound patterns and tones, the light detector is sensitive to both color and intensity variations, and there is a touch sensor to let the bot feel its way around as well. legomind2.jpg

The NXT comes with 18 step-by-step building challenges, not including the working slot machine pictured above. And Lego has issued a call for a NXT great developers user panel. 100 enthusiasts who apply via the website will be chosen to receive a kit in February. They will have four months to tinker and create something amazing for when the NXT becomes available to the public in August 2006. It will retail for $249.99.

Hey guys,

I'm a big LEGO enthusiast too, I'd collected lotsa lego sets during my primary school days such as those space station, pirate ships, pirate harbour, fire station and so on. After seeing this thread yesterday,it really brought back my sweet lego memories and i decided to go to Toys R Us and Jaya Jusco in Mid Valley to hunt for some lego to add into my collections but sadly both places only sell those Knight Kingdom, Technic and Bionicle models (which im totally not interested).

So I want to ask you guys, are there still any other places that still are still selling those old skool lego models like those pirate ships, space stations and so on?

it's getting harder to get Lego sets now, its too expensive so toys shops do not want to stock up just for the collectors.

when i was young, the prices were reasonable and my parents bought lots of LEGO sets for me.

nowadays i think the best form of entertainment for kids are gaming consoles and PC... pirated game cds freaking cheap... sweat.gif

off topic edi?

yeah i as well think that Lego is so expensive nowadays compared to the good old days where my house used to have Lego spilling all over the floor and i'll get so annoyed whenever i step on 1! oh god it hurts! its so sad that kids nowadays doesnt know how to relish toys like Lego which i think its a kind of brain stimulating activity when u build things and the joy of accomplishment when u actually get something built! and all kids nowadays do is sitting infront of the tv/pc all day playing games!! (thats what i think la no offence)

ps: scotty u wont mind right if we are slightly off topic! tongue.gif

Yah, their prices are getting terribly high now and to make things worst you can only find them in places like JJ, Parkson or Toys R Us where they will add more damage to the pricing. And nowadays LEGO itself is coming out with more models to blend into the adult group. Still remember when I was small, some shopping complexes will open a table in the toy section and layout a bucket full of lego blocks for the public to play with them.

its a sad reality actually.

frankly if i could afford it, i would love to start a new system of lego trains again.
comps and electronic stuff are just graphics. i always prefer something u can actually touch and assemble.

Yay, I'm back! And it seems like there ARE a lot more people into this timeless hobby, and that is a good thing. Seeing there are some posting pics of their collections, I feel that I should do the same tongue.gif

Some of the big ones that I still have

My oldest Technic models. The 8840 and 8838 were my first ever Technics, bought from Australia as presents by my parents. Love them for it.

I have a couple of sets from the Space series: Ice Planet, but they're currently in my other house. And they really need some dusting. laugh.gif

More Lego pics:

A happy City bunch in my cupboard. Nowdays I tend to buy the small, individual sets like these to just keep myself in track of Lego designs development throughout the years. But once in a while I might work up the nerve (and the RMs) to get myself one BIG set, just for fun. whistling.gif

user posted image
Question: Is there something very wrong with this picture?
Answer: Nope, it makes perfect sense. What we have here is a Bulldozer: One Horsepower Edition, an old-fashioned jetpack-equipted bandit farmer and a soldier who finds out why it's bad to wear a steel helmet under the hot sun. FWOOSH-! shakehead.gif laugh.gif

user posted image
And my favourite pic I got, my new hobby riding in my old hobby. As you can see, my current primary hobby is Gunpla, but I'll never forget my hobby's roots and from where I developed my creativity and assembling skills, that's growing up with Lego.

Funny realizing that you started with a hobby that consists primarily of plastic, and years later you end up with a hobby that's also fundamentally plastic. Well, what goes around, comes around, yes? ph34r.gif

P.S.: BTW, MrBean's construction is just downright funny, with that jumbled-up together of themes like pirates, city, castle, space and what-not. First time I saw the post, I was going like"OMGWIHNWTF-HarHarHar!!". Super Ludicrous! thumbup.gif Great work of creativity!

It'll be more fun to make DIY keychains out of your own Lego, IMHO thumbup.gif .
(Just drill a hole through the plastic; and keep it neat; and place in a metal ring, and so on and so forth... wink.gif )

I got one made out of a Space minifig once, but I do recall seeing LEGO-made keychains somewhere in departmental stores (Isetan? Jusco?), I think it was from the Star Wars / Harry Potter series range...

Is there something wrong with the photos/camera or what ?
The colour of the blocks are different from the one shown on the box.

I'm a robotics enthusiast and I have seen many super cool robots, but, the Lego Difference Engine is definitely one of the coolest thing I've ever seen. I cant help but to stare at the photo...

Wowzer, makes me drool.gif

Gotta love that particular set, has all the classic Technic devices: Pneumatic System, Electric Motor... thumbup.gif

Is there a second kind of build (meaning for example, another form or type of vehicle) that is available with that 8421 set? Or is it just the crane? Because older Technic set has at least two types of build that can be made from one set... this means from the given manual, not counting DIY freestyle constructions.

oh, a Lego thread tongue.gif

i have a lot of Lego sets when i was young, the one with themes but for play one, i don't like lego Technic back then. i will buy at least 3 sets of each theme using my own money. i had around 20 to 25 of small boxes(sold at RM6-9) set and 10(sold at RM15-20) of the medium boxes one. pirate theme, space theme, seaside theme, etc.

but i lost them all when moving out from my old house. put them in a box and the box dissapeared. i was so mad but don't know what to do since i was in hostel when the thing happen. fck the lorry man..

So in Malaysia, department stores and Toy R' Us are the places to buy those big Lego sets ?

Buying at those places are really burning holes in the wallet la...

Is there something like bulk buy or bargain store ?

I also played Lego when i was young, stopped around 13 as it's kinda expensive.

When i was around 5-6 my parents get me a box of lego where you can just build anything you want.

Then when i was 7 i have a set of small car racing set and when i was 13 i got myself a Police set.

Gonna contruct it again when im free.

The air carrier set is so cool thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

LEGO - my childhood companion.
I used to like LEGO a lot, and like to play with it. From small, play with...erm...duplos? (big big LEGO block for baby/little child one), until up to lego technic set. Have been stop playing a few years back after 19 years old (I am 22 now). Now the only complete set I still have is a LEGO mindstorm set with ultimate builder set, bought from Singapore.

LEGO is my childhood game. I don't really go out play but always stay in house with my cousins playing lego. Normally during holiday we will bring our lego sets and play around. I only had one lego set which is the airport. That time parents not rich, a set of lego is like a heaven.
First we will try to built what the set is. Then few days we will change and built with our creativity. We even built a WWF ring, spaceships etc.
Lego is itsself is very good quality as toys as well as good for children mind development and imagination.
But now I find lego set is more to movies and stories. It become damn expensive, it seem like double the price. Maybe the currency exchange gua. I always prefer those legoland. Building a lego is like builing a dream city of us.
I wonder where can get those lego blocks where we can make something out of it.

Wah can make a great playtime from your collection

Robin hood goes to the city to steal from the rich then went back to the jungle n build himself a huge castle. Finally got caught got locked up with a bunch of pirates. Finally rescued by their fellow shipmates and adopted into the gang then set sail into the far end of the bathtub.. errmm sea. Then your mum rush in to pulls the plug ... hehehe..

Emmm for those of you who still keep your LEGO but would like to dispose it... can donate to me de hehehee...

And did you know that some vintage LEGO parts and figures cost alot these days?

I've seen some obscure parts like helmets and figures (which are no longer in production) goes for us$50++ or even MUCH MORE in ebay.com (haiyo 1 small hat weight less than 1 gram can cost so much, reali mind boggling)

time to dig up those parts and check how much its market rate now lo....

go to bricklink.com to get a price guide. if this made u a millionaire. dunt forget to treat me ya!!!

Hi,
I am a had heaps of Lego toys since I was a kid. But recently, I have revived my passion tongue.gif

Anyone here own the Lego Mindstorm NXT kit? http://mindstorms.lego.com/

Anyway, I am on a mission to purchase one. Anybody knows where to get one? Some local "specialised" toy store, quoted me from 1.5k -> 1.8k tongue.gif

If you are interested in getting one, or have a Mindstorm forum, or gathering, please PM me. I want to find other "robot" builders tongue.gif

I'm a big Star Wars Lego collector... just wish they were cheaper...

VincC454 => Congrats on your massive ISD! How long did it take to built?

I'd like to meet other Lego adult collectors. Last year Ikano had a Lego Milipede challenge so I was lucky to meet some and contribute a few feet of milipede.

Well, maybe there's chance to meet again. There's this Movie Collectibles Bazaar on this Sat 23/9 at Cineleisure Damansara. I'm planning to setup a stall there for collectors to meet and trade collectibles throughout the day. Inviting Lego collectors to come at 5pm. Bring along your cool custom Lego creation to share! VincC454, bring your ISD!!! rclxms.gif

Hope to meet some of you.

Oh, more about the bazaar here:

My first building (not vehicle) set is the Red Bank (with a small black van with a safe inside). can't imagine its highly rated and sought after now. was selling in The Mall last time for juz $36.90 i think.

www.lego.com there is I think , but then they don't ship to Malaysia, from where I last checked. I mailed them regarding this matter, but they have yet to reply me.

My suggestion to you is, for you to approach those Lego Building Community which is in Singapore to advice you or if possible to assist you in obtaining your missing part.

Hope you're able to find back your missing part..

But then, won't it defeat the purpose of the Lego already. We... I think normal glue would be more than sufficient sincee Lego itself have some HOLD when the blocks are joint together

Hope you enjoy!

advise to the guy who built it. get a LIFE already!!!

oh ermm.. k.. as if i have one of my own.

must've taken him months after months there. i'm still wondering how his creation is transported around. its too long to be fitted on the back of a conventional car.

Yeah, now I'm in Germany.
I suppose Lego is cheaper here... Went to a department store and saw the 8421 Crane set selling for 129.99 Euro, only a lil' cheaper than in Malaysia. Let's wait for the discount.

Also saw the Racer 8671 selling for 33.99 Euro and Racer 8652 39.99 Euro.

Legolands, my heaven, haha, must go.
But....... D4mn, it's closed due to winter now. It will only be re-open on 31 March, hopefully I'm still here.

Naka7a,

i have the detailed F1 car ....Actually both the code you mentioned is for F1 car but the smaller scale one is older version as in the bigger scale is newer version ... Both are different design of Ferrari F1 car .. If you look at it properly, one of the front wing is the normal straight wing while the newer actually have the additional small wing in the middle of the front wing ... hope it is helpful .. smile.gif

Although it might be too late ....
8386 is like below,
http://www.autosrapidos.com/superautos/for...rrari-f2002.htm

while 8674 is like below.
http://www.mi3dot.org/gallery/work/9875/

So have you bought your lego set ?? smile.gif

You mean he will be having the new ferrari?I was in love with it when i saw it the other day but damn, RM799 is freaking expensive for me..I only saw the old ferrari (the one you bought) at Toy'R'Us MV before and its nice as well..Not sure how much that cost..

The other one i really like was the Lego Technic of a Tow Truck (#8285) at Toy'R'Us 1U today which also cost about RM799 and it was huge..So nice and if only it was cheaper..Lego is really too pricy for me..

Anyway, which shop you guys recommend for getting lego set?As in which shop has the most lego in stock and are the price all fixed?

Ic...But lego is really getting too expensive already. Some even almost reaching 1k..The ferrari cars are really nice.Even the old version (1:10) is very nice indeed..Anyway Naka7a, can you estimate around how big is the 1:10 ferrari size?

I used to play alot of lego during my younger days.Have lots of them and most of them are those building house thingy like aeroplane/airport set, castle, and many more.Around 10 - 15 last time but after that, the interest is gone. Now, i am really addicted to those technic lego and the ferrari but too bad the price is way to high and lego is kinda hard to get already..

welcome to the fold. I am interested in lego TOWN but not the current ones. Wish they reissue everything from LEGO town that was made b4 1996.

I have 10 roadplates and a few runways but my room too small to display 'em.

There is a mini mindstorms forum going. Only a few members, but if you have any programming issues and all, might be better if you post it over there. Rather than repeating everything

http://legoforum.zoneunlimited.com/

Programming guide, got many online, depends on which one you are interested in. They have C, Java, Microsoft Robotics SDK, assembly.....

Why don't you join us for a Mindstorm meet up. I hope to get like 10 people going.

Mindstorm Meet up - Burger King Hartamas, KL

You could bring along your set, and show us some of your implementation.

Can discuss a little, and maybe come up with a smarter and better robot tongue.gif

OHHH, all Lego users are invited too!!

Quick One:

Anybody here free to join me in a Lego Mindstorm (RIS and NXT) presentation on the 10th Feb?

There would be a short presentation followed by some hands on demo.

Showing both the building part of Lego Technics with the Mindstorm kit as well as some programming.

Will need you to bring your Lego Mindstorm sets along for the demo.

Expect between 20-50 people from IT background attending.

Your support would be greatly appreciated.

No supporters arr?

I think, the plan for the day (10th Feb) is to start off with some Lego, Lego Technics and Lego Mindstorms history.

Run through what is Mindstorms and its capabilities. Show some photos/videos, some sample source codes and the actual robots.

Followed by actual hands on playing of Mindstorms and sample programming demos.

I hope to invite a person from Sasbadi (the Lego Education importers) that sponsored the recent WRO (World Robotics Olympiad) in China. I believe Malaysia team won a few things. Hopefully got some photos, and some actual competition robots.

Is there anyone interested in helping out. More of demoing Lego to the people. Only 2-3 hours Max at KLCC (TBC).

No Lego set required
(If got Mindstorms or Technics demo kits even better).

But some Lego experience would be great.

Any help and support would greatly be appreciated!

Regards,
Eric

i think our fanbase is pretty small to start of any event. We must find ways to build up this fanbase to at least 50 dedicated members maybe we have enough manpower to start up things.

I myself never touched mindstorm b4 ( pricey leh), but wish to see a LEGO exhibition one day being held in KL.

Yup yup. I am trying to get some momentum going for Mindstorms. Actually there are many users around, and many local schools Malaysia have these sets.

I just need to find a way to get their attention!!

I only got like 2-3 serious people currently supporting me. Working with Lego Education distributor and other people to try to promote Mindstorms in Malaysia.

I believe that there is definately enough fan base, but we need to get the ball rolling, maybe organise some events, or meet ups. Then hopefully it will be fun and on-going...

Who wants to set a NEW World Record? I believe if we can get Lego to sponsor some parts, easily we could build something that could get us into the World Records.

Check out the following link

http://www.recordholders.org/en/list/lego.html

Any suggestions? Who wants to try to break a record? All we need is a sponsor!!

Eric

The location (unconfirmed) should be at KLCC. It is on a Sat, I am sure, you can find some transport to come smile.gif.

Or see got any other forumers who are willing to give you a ride?

Could you prepare a robot for the demo for the day? Maybe include photos while building it and also the program that you wrote.

Thanks. Hope to see you there.

Hi Guys,
As I had mentioned before, there would be a Lego Mindstorm Presentation.

Lego Mindstorm NXT Presentation

Only catch is you need to register to be the member of their Forum.

You would also need to send your IC number to them, if you are attending the Presentation

You know la..... KLCC got very strict security. If never register, cannot go up KLCC!!

Hi Guys,
As I had mentioned before, there would be a Lego Mindstorm Presentation.

Lego Mindstorm NXT Presentation

Only catch is you need to register to be the member of their Forum.

You would also need to send your IC number to them, if you are attending the Presentation

You know la..... KLCC got very strict security. If never register, cannot go up KLCC!!

Eric
*
Those that wish to come for the Mindstorm presentation. You will need to register.

You could send me your Full name and IC number and I will pre-register for you.
They need it, so that the security guards at KLCC will allow you to go up.

Else, just email the organisers directly.

Hope to see you guys there on Sat.

Eric

Hi,
Sorry didnt have time to reply the other day. Was too busy preparing the presentation slides.

You would still need to leave your IC or Driving license with them before proceding up.

Did you manage to go to the talk?

Anyone else from LYN attended the presentation?

Regards,
Eric

I was at Singapore and happen to find this shop, Simply Toys. Man........looking at the lego there makes me envy those working in singapore......the prices are so cheap dollar per dollar la. And overall is cheaper then the prices here in KL.

Example....one set SG 19.90 and the same set here is RM59.90. Not alot of difference but still cheaper.

Well, you can try looking for me.

Most of the time i buy lego online in US and ship over. While other times my friends will just go over to US and bring smaller sets for me. Depends on exchange rates and shipping cost, sometimes my lego are much more cheaper compared to the lego selling in Malaysia.

Was told that castle series will be available in June. but not sure about creator cafe. I got a feeling clone and droids battle packs wouldnt be available soon. Cos the lego distributor seems to stop bringing in after the March batch.

Until u saw Waba's collection.. it makes my collection puny and meaningless.. His bricks conquer 4/5 of his lair. Even the boxes and bricks containers stacking from floor to ceiling. Infront of PC countless of bricks lying around until u not enough space to move ur mouse.

Until u saw Waba's collection.. it makes my collection puny and meaningless.. His bricks conquer 4/5 of his lair. Even the boxes and bricks containers stacking from floor to ceiling. Infront of PC countless of bricks lying around until u not enough space to move ur mouse.

Heh, i didnt know waba is so crazy about lego too.... he collects mostly minifigs and pirate ships, medieval castle, etc as well ?

btw.. how far u have gone with ur mindstorm collection??
*
Still in the process of working towards owning a NXT set in next few months. I have an old Mindstorms RIS 1.5 which i bought a few years back and together with a few technic sets which i've collected over the years. Ever since i bought the Mindstorms, i started to collect mostly technic sets to complement the Mindstorms.

One of the reason i like the Mindstorms so much is because the things you can create and do with them is limitless.......it's only limited by your imagination......

And the youtube link u sent me says it all notworthy.gif
I wonder what project will they do next time... maybe LEGO robots that build LEGO factory to build LEGO car ??

Actually u can download a few LEGO Free e-magazines (legal) from here
http://www.lugnet.com/~1495/brickjournal

I cant recall which issue, they use the mindstorm and technic sets to build a vending machine.. 100% same as the one u see on the street, quite cool..

Unfortunately they haven out, same as PG. :-(
all the retail shops and even Brickboy come in more on the
8674 (Ferrari) and the bionicle which lives in the water (it seems like) and batman theme.
City is the fire hovercraft.

Used to own Lego Technics Space Robot and a Police Speed boat.
And guys, when i was at standard 6, i designed a vehicle that looks like the new batman car. I called it "Built Tough Vehicle" BTV. When the latest batman movie came only i realise they stole my design. Curse them. vmad.gif I even done crash test between the bat-mobile and my plactic tank. It have 6 tyres for complete 6x6 Vehicle status. Man, thoose were the days. Still until now i am glued to lego section of the shopping complex.

Damn, i should enter Nasa to design the space crawler. icon_rolleyes.gif

i would rather choose Technic Mobile Crane (8421) or Towtruck (8285) as compare to the F1

The key chains are also original from LEGO....just that the parts cannot be taken out for logical reasons....
If can....by the 5th day of use....you'll only be left with the head and the rest gone somewhere...
