I watched Moneyball.

Here is an interesting article, written mid 2011, on Soccernomics & Moneyball:

The Scouser Report: Soccernomics, Moneyball and Liverpool’s Transfer Policy
http://worldfootballcolumns.com/2011/07/15...ransfer-policy/

Interesting comments at the end of the article...

An idealism.

But not many team can do that, including Barcelona.
Barcelona has world class youth academy. But they still spend big bucks on players.
(Of course Barcelona develops many youth players over the years. But that's Barcelona)

As I pointed, Liverpool did not have the transfer budget issue like you see in Moneyball.
If the pretty face had 100 millions to spend, I bet the fat-formula guy would not be recruited (he would not come into picture at all) laugh.gif

Billy Beane rant before the game vs Blackburn start.

We had Billy Beane too at Liverpool, Rafa Benitez.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...-Liverpool.html
The moment he left, he had net spend of 78.34 millions.

We sold few players in the following season.
Cavalieri (1m), Torres (50m), Riera (4m), Benayoun (5.5m), Mascherano (17.25m), Babel (5.8m).
Total player sold, 83.55m.

P/S
Few players signed by Rafa sold in season 2010/11.
Kyrgiakos, Ngog, Insua, Jovanovic (transfer fee undisclosed. 5-10 millions in total, perhaps)

P/S
There are few players signed by Rafa in our current squad.
How much we can fund from the sales of these players?
Reina, Agger, Skrtel, G.Johnson, Maxi, Kuyt and Aquilani.
I just picked the number from below link, perhaps another 50-60 millions (guesstimate).

So now people are calling Moyes the moneyball manager and conveniently forget our very own Rafa Benitez. People have such selected and short memories. Sometimes, i feel we deserve everything that has and is coming our way.
*
I think the reason is Rafa is history and David Moyes is still the active "Billy Beane".

Maxi is the beast.

Too bad he's leaving. It's not too late to coax him to stay and admit your mistakes, KK.

I can see Liverpool bottling it now.

Jone = Hero to Zero. Why the fark he cant catch a simple ball like that?

Whole team is low on confidence now. Mediocre players breed mediocre results.

Can't blame those young players. They are green anyway.
Imagine these young players have to step up and play. Give them some credits.

Where are our senior players? Either sold or flop.

I think Dalglish settled for a draw. Rightfully so, with 10 man and Blackburn on top.

I think Maxi deserved a place on the field.
Carroll should go. Carroll hardly contributed.

carroll is needed when defending set pieces

Not to forget Carroll almost scored an own goal.
Agger is already on the field. We are not short of tall players.

a very meaningful win for me.  No Kuyt, No Gerrard, No Carragher, No Suarez.  we see Coates, Flanagan, Spearing, Shelvey, Henderson and Carroll.  What made it more meaningful is the missing regular and the boys fight till the end to win.

Looks like the boys show the senior how it is done.  Drama all over the game but we fight to win, which is good.  keep this up for the rest of the season please.  we have our pride shattered through out the season, EPL dun mean much now but please keep fighting and make me eat my words.  I want to be proven wrong.

The green horn didn't quite step up in the match (the first penalty that got Doni sent off. Flanagan made a bad pass but Coates were there watching).
For me, Henderson and Carroll didn't play quite well too (except the good header from Carroll in 90').

Bellamy and Maxi were virtually dismantling the defence of Blackburn during the 1st 20 mins.
Good combo and excellent burst rate (I didn't see Carroll when both of them bombing the defence of opponents. Prolly Carroll didn't keep up with the pace).
For me, Bellamy is the MOTM.
He worked hard and kept pressing Blackburn throughout the match (even when we down with 10-men).

Look, this whole "I want our manager out" talk is by far the most undeservingly highlighted stuff of the season.

And when somebody tells us that we're hypocrotical to back KD, but not Roy Hodson, then I ask you this;

Did in any way Roy Hoidson stood for the club, or its supporters?
As far as I can recall, he had only placed himself before the club, before the supporters, before the players.

Look at the comments he did on Torres.
Look at the 'agreements' he kow-towed to Alex Ferguson
Look at the way he responded on his press conferences
Look at the vision he placed on the club.

Compare all that to KD.

He backed our players, right or wrong.
He doesn't kow tow, admittably he should have sniped back at them, at their own expenses, which sometimes he did, sometimes he just focuses it on our own team.
He puts the press conferences on where we could / should have been, and he's man enough to point out a lot, any other managers would have whined 'conspiracy'.
And despite our supporter's row, he has never, and never lashed at us the way Hodson did.

An if you're blind enough to see all that, then I'll say you best be on your way supporting a team that changes managers, or a currently dominating club. Hell, since you're at it, why not support the currently best, Barca F.C?
*
Roy didn't actually get sacked for what he said.
He could say all kind of sh*t as long as he could deliver the results.
He was criticized and sacked for the poor run of results.

Mourinho can call himself King of the Hill, Special One, Phenomenon etc etc.
What matters is, he gets his job done by delivering results.

Likewise, King Kenny.

P/S You can debate based on facts. But you are in no position to ask fellow kopites to support other clubs. That's lame.

I guess there are those who have too high of an expectation from Kenny that recent Liverpool league form has been consider as huge failure. Often we've forgotten that this is only his first full season as a Liverpool manager after 20years. All of the players he bought have less time than Lucas to come good and gel into the team yet.

Under Kenny, we've played much exciting football than the times of Roy Hogson and even Rafa Benitez (he was criticized for being too defensive minded). We probably could be called the most unlucky team in the league in the premier league for hitting the goal frame the most times (Suarez holds the record as the player with the most goal frame hit). However, apart from the few poor performance, I like the brand of football brought in by Kenny. It always pains me when we see us drop points even though we could have crushed the opponents (how the eff did we loose to Arsenal at Anfield?)

For me personally, I would like to have Kenny for another season. With Lucas coming back and the prospect of us getting a (value-for-money) goal poacher next season; I hope to give Kenny another season to try and win us the champions league spot.

I hope we can win the FA cup to ease our premier league pain and unite the players and the fans.

Remember, we were 0-3 down at Istanbul...
*
Speak of expectation. What do you expect from King Kenny as a manager?

For me, with the money we spent, I expect sensible signings that could enhance our squad and reasonable results (I never expect to be the champion of Premier League).
I guess that is not too much to ask for.
