should we call/email(btw wch is more appropriate?call or email) the company we've had an interview with after a few days to check on our status??i know it does show our interest in the job but per say a "busy/big" company, i wonder how would they respond.

or should just wait for it, this basing on how the candidate feels he did in the interview.per say a feel good factor maybe telefon tanya, if so-so leave it to nasib, kalau dapat dapat smile.gif

Better give at least a week or two. Be patient, it takes time to process the interview results and etc. smile.gif

hey guys, is it normal to work without knowing your salary, signing a contract, benefits etc etc?(during the interview, and post interview during accepting the job just a range of probable salary was informed).also no punch card/id tag even after a week?

for a big company, they may have a better structured organization HR etc, lets say this is semi big one to medium company, short a bit on staff and such.

should the new guy ask the hr or the reporting manager(despite the manager informing him/her on the first day the hr will come to them with the details etc)?how to proceed if its already been a week and no such communication regarding the matter came to view??

I'm not an expert but I certainly wouldn't be comfortable in this situation. If it's been a week it's about time you asked HR about how these details will be sorted out (especially the contract ! I wouldn't really mind about the id tag)

My biggest concern in your situation would be how things would be handled in the event of an accident. From what you've said there is no official documentation that says that you're employed at the company. I really hope for your sake that you're not working on site right now.

My advice - don't wait, go and talk to HR about this.

well ive been there for 7 days, and on my very first day i was off to a test site lol.

up till now im on our own test facility.talked to my manager this morning, got some things cleared, and he promised me 1st thing wed morning is to get the hr person sort out those things. smile.gif

Hi everyone,

Interesting posts here....(although I didn't read all the pages so forgive me if this has been asked).....

Does the oil and gas industry hire PhD holders? I've been offered a scholarship to do my PhD in Finland (on renewable energy)...and should I accept the offer, I will be 32 by the time I graduate (if I do graduate). Not so young, I know. I just wanted to know if it is a realistic goal to want to work for Shell Malaysia after my PhD. I've been to the Shell website and it seems they do hire PhD holders...but I thought it'd good to hear from people in the industry in terms of how common it is.

In terms of experience, I admittedly don't have much....about 2 years working as a Process Engineer for SBM Malaysia. Then I left to do my Masters in Japan. I just got back.

My initial plan was to accept the scholarship offer and try to see the job market in Finland but since coming back to Malaysia, my father is experiencing some health problems...so I'm rearranging priorities. I'm thinking I either forgo the scholarship and apply straightaway to oil and gas companies or since I already have the scholarship, take it, hopefully get my PhD and then come back and apply to oil and gas companies.

Would really appreciate any feedback or comments from the people here. Thank you!

wow.your thus far cv in that post alone can get you a good job.and with phd who knows maybe you can get a researcher role for the ong industry.

Hey guys, my new employer asked me to do medical checkup, BOSET and Seaman's Book on my own and they will reimburse them later. I already signed their offer letter but it's only official after I've done all those required test/course.

Is this a normal procedure? I'm just worried if I fail to pass any of those test/course after I tender my resignation from my current employer..shouldn't be a problem right?
*
medical, boset is hard to fail woo..unless la you have some thing unknown in your body.dont worry those 3 things easy.just make sure they reimburse lol biggrin.gif itu course plus medical quite expensive.

Yes I did, on January. How long does it normally take for them to contact me?
*
long i guess.got to remember shell is a big company thus they will take some time to respond.either way, you wont loose anything, its not like they have asked you for some sort of payment etc.just wait for the good news for an interview.

I used to work at Kerteh last time. Kemaman is a very laid-back, peaceful town. house rental was cheap, I guess max 400-500 per month. I think it is easy for you to spot one later. there's a lot of oilfield workers stationed at KSB, so make use of the networking and mingle with peoples around.

oo will do bro thanks for the advice.looking forward to working there and the town of kemaman smile.gif
