as whatdamn had pointed ASME/ANSI B16.5.

The rest maybe API 6A, API 17D, MSS SP-44 or Norsok L 005.

depend on what is your career path.. If you choose to be specialized in oil & gas engineering.. Your mentor is correct.. If you choose to be in general engineering or any work available in O&G, you can join later..

Example Specialization in oil & gas: drilling engineer, mud engineer, process/top site engineer, Turret Mooring System Engineer, Naval Architect, etc.. Actually, some of courses at Uni are related to O & Gas..

Example non: electrical engineer, instrument engineer, IT, finance, procurement, structural engineer..
*
Will my chances to be specialized in oil & gas engineering to be lower, if I join an oil and gas consultant? Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that the specializations you mentioned are more towards field positions.

I do not have any luck in securing any interview from any oil service companies, like Schlumberger and Baker Hughes for field positions. The ones I get are interview offers from consultants like Technip and Aker Engineering. I afraid that if I join the industry as a consultant, I may not get the chance to become a field engineer in the near future. Is it wrong for me to think so? hmm.gif

Thank you for your information. smile.gif

They are ex-Shell for a reason  biggrin.gif Anyways, here in Shell, anything HSSE-related is very critical especially in construction services. This is due to high reputation is at stake, imagine just a small H2S leak incident goes all the way up to asset management level even involving the MD.

I'm going to graduate around year end. I managed to secure a job with a consultant company but they don't do much oil and gas stuff. During my summer holidays, i did my internship with Aker Solutions in KL. Was quite interested in the design of the topside platform.

I wanna go back into oil and gas but at the moment, I can't find a job here in Australia that is in line with my choice. So, I had to take whatever I can first. I plan to jump back into oil and gas in like 3-5 years. You guys reckon I can?

just head up to WA-QLD for this. dont wait till 3-5 years, it will be diff alrdy. Now its good chance to enter.

hi guys, i am in my final year doing mech engineering, in Monash we don't use cgpa but we use weighted average mark and HWA (honours weighted average).

i would like to ask a question, especially to those who are already in OnG companies, what are the basic academic requirement needed in order to be called for interviews. i heard that companies like SLB, Halliburton etc took grads who didn't even get 3.00 cgpa.

my current wam is 65% still got 1 more sem to go so probably go up to 68% so i wonder if you guys know the equivalent of the local uni punya cgpa. sorry if this question should not be in this topic, mohon ampun, saya noob. =)

I place a lot of importance in networking. One of my most important advice to my brother was for him to develop his network. Now he is a regional manager because his company realized that his network is quite extensive.

I don't know about "normal" people but if you have the right attitude, I'm sure those potential employers will be able to recognize it.
