I'm involved in Shell Perlude, no doubt about it.
Couldn't find any news about petronas FLNG, not even the field name.. Only the estimated first production date which is 2015..

Congrats on V3. Just got back from the empty quarter visiting the Dunes is Shaybah. Was there for a photography trip. Too tired to do anything else at the moment.

FLNG for the stranded gas in Sabah ... was involved in some of the reserves assessments for this stranded gas fields before .... seems like there are a lot of activities in Malaysia nowadays which is always good.

if there is e&p, then there are jobs. but econ downs, then only service & repair jobs. that is how my company able to survive all this while since 1970s until today with company name has changed for a few times due to different stakeholders. during econ down, we survive by service & repair octg and some new octg fabrication.
good time, we are able to get 5-6 months bonus. down time 1-2 months bonus.

if high e&p, we have lot of tenders with high profit margin & ROCE besides the usual service & repair and new octg premium connections fabrication.

3 months in semi-con industrial training as secured by university long time ago, i have never applied any single semi-con after graduate until today.

Guys i got got a call from kencana pinewell offering me rm 2.2k for junior engineer position. What do you guys think? I dont mind the salary, but this job is in Kl and need to consider renting, living expenses. The positive thing is that this is a chance for me to join oil and gas industry and learn the trade.

If i were not wrong, they may be parring your qualifications to diploma. i believe they are looking for diploma/fresh grad degree holders if based on March 2012 advertisement.
it is a good kick-start for you as you have zero experience. unless you have something very good to bargain with.
many years ago, i survived in KL with MYR2.1k fresh grad with 1st class at construction consultant. then after probation, performance appraisal and company-jump more & more.

MYR2.8k western MNC perhaps or you have a very good 1st class degree/grad from reputable uni. or depends on the company current on-hands available projects & cash flow, capex/opex and many other factors.

it is not just generalise with "RM2.8k...the market now..."

if you have been long enough and competent, you will know your legit* sources.

Hi bendonarticx,

Pay Wise =
More or less mostly is the same package. Maybe a little bit extra on consultancy cause they pay depends on your exp. Some of my senior right now gains RM30K per month based on 15 years exp.

Benefit =
Same like wage. More or less the same.
also qualifications. some MNC needs at least a degree/MBA to be promoted. certain experience may compensate the qualifications if the company not able to find the specialist.

benefits, depends on ranking also.

because certain people do not understand the petroleum economics and the operations, e.g., marginal oilfields.
people just wanna go join o&g because of the trend.

Kencana starts to recoup investment in Berantai oil field in 2 years

Is 2012/ 2013 a good year for O&G industry?

you should read this.
also follow-up on business news. and check with friends/networks in the field of the actual situation.

imho, for msia, year 2012/2013 are years which projects are tendered and evaluation will be done. perhaps end 2013 or early 2014 when tender will be awarded. our company with no major tenders since around 2 months ago. only this month onwards some discussion on larger tenders/sales orders with our clients.
you can notice 2012-2013 is a recruitment year where companies are planning for the resources which expected to kick-in 2013/2014. recruitment cycle may take few months to 1 year or even more.
from a friend's source, expecting Q2 2013 they will be requiring more hiring or at this particular timing all their resources are in full gear to stand-by.

if in cameron in fabrication, you are expecting to deal with lot of API 6A, 1104. ASTM A370, A388, E420, E94, E747, E709, E165, E10, etc.
i can't deny fabrication knowledge will be in great help in consultant later stage. and designers makes fabricators' life/ field users (engineers) sometimes miserable with not practical parameters. some are designers without field experience/fresh and this is very headache which we always encountered, not considering the field usage and machines capabilities and existing technology & human skills can achieve or not. we need to call them in to discuss to re-evaluate or modify their design.

sometimes, the superior needs someone who can follow instructions and mingle well with others as a team. or perhaps the chemistry with the one who will hire you.
and many other reasons.

i was rejected by a norwegian company though i passed excellently 2 tests. no reasons were given though have asked the HR. except my evaluation results.

tubular:
there are pup joints, tubing, casing, accessories, subsea equipments with various type of connections API and premium connections.
precision machining, swaging, stress-relief, plating, hydrostatic pressure test, welding, hardbanding, blasting, phosphating, coating, make-up (tong), NDT, etc processes involved in producing the OCTG OCTG.
sizes maybe from 2", 2.3/8", 2.7/8", 3.1/2", 4", 4.1/2", 5", 5.1/2" and maybe up to 48", length may range from R1 (4.88-7.62m), R2 (7.63-10.35m) or R3 (10.36-14.63m), depends on well depth.

there are conductor casing, surface casing, intermediate casing and production casing (liner) in a typical well. drill with mud as cutting fluids in the annulus with the help of drill bit and drill string, then cement with float collar and centralizer. make-up (tong) those casing from few hundred ft to thousands ft. then continue to drill to cement up those casing in sequence. during these processes, the well may face pressure loss, kicks, may require shut-in and kill, or stuck pipe and require fishing tools.
