u BMi is too high. U phail. Do full medical and check if you hav other complications. if you do not, then reduce ur weight alittle. cos there is an exemption for BMI of 35 to 40 teywll give u 6 months medical but before that can happen, u MUST NOT have any other medical complications like hypertension etc. if u getthru that then u have that 6 months to bring ur BMI down to 35.

to be honest its only in malaysia or petronas that this applies to, cos malaysians are suckers and do not realise that this is actually discrimination.

I am a fresh grade from utm with pet. eng. deg. just received an offer from MNC oil and gas for assistant planner position. I in doubt will this job deviate/bias from what I learned and do this job title more on management?

What is the career prospect of being a planner? If I take this job means have to say bye bye to technical knowledge and move to management skills? My career goal is to become a process design engineer. Am worrying now if i work as planner now can shift to process design department which is more on technical knowledge?

Appreciate if any could clear my doubt. Thanks.

Petronas requirement that u need to have your BMI less than 35 to pass your offshore medical....but some person got temporary/short period OSP(6months)...
*
so... this BMI thing only affect those working offshore, is it? what about those who don't really need to go offshore? and what is 'temporary/short period OSP'? need to lose weight in those 6 month??

I dont know for people who dont need to go offshore. Short period OSP means that your OSP only valid for 6months (normally 2years or 1 years), after that you need to go for another offshore medical examination. BUT i believe this will not apply for all personnel and the approval wil be on the higher level management....I experienced this twice where my driller and rig manager got 6months OSP because not of their BMI exceeded 35.

Guys, need a quick opinion on this.
My mentor told me that it's kinda hard to go into oil and gas if you don't start with oil and gas after you graduate? How true does this hold?

I'm going to graduate around year end. I managed to secure a job with a consultant company but they don't do much oil and gas stuff. During my summer holidays, i did my internship with Aker Solutions in KL. Was quite interested in the design of the topside platform.

I wanna go back into oil and gas but at the moment, I can't find a job here in Australia that is in line with my choice. So, I had to take whatever I can first. I plan to jump back into oil and gas in like 3-5 years. You guys reckon I can?

Not really. My brother was with an automotive company for 7 years and he jumped to a service provider for O&G 5 years ago. Of course I used my network to get him an interview. Now he is one of their regional service manager. Damn proud of him.

depend on what is your career path.. If you choose to be specialized in oil & gas engineering.. Your mentor is correct.. If you choose to be in general engineering or any work available in O&G, you can join later..

Example Specialization in oil & gas: drilling engineer, mud engineer, process/top site engineer, Turret Mooring System Engineer, Naval Architect, etc.. Actually, some of courses at Uni are related to O & Gas..

Example non: electrical engineer, instrument engineer, IT, finance, procurement, structural engineer..

Can. But chances between other qualified engineers are lower. Also there's matter of expectation if you don't have enough exp to do your job properly even if you manage to get in. However depend on your discipline which may not differ much like electrical, should not be a problem.
