your shrimps will become snack to them, very barbarian fish.

Did you guys try b4 with ghost shrimp, i once drop a hair & staghorn infected java fern into ghost shrimps tank , within a week
all algae gone, 'satu bulu pun tak nampak'.

looking for a 2ft tank now ^^

Added on April 18, 2012, 2:42 pmYesterday, i put 1 mercury thermometer and 1 digital thermometer in a bowl of cold class water to see which is accurate.

Results shown:

Mercury thermometer: 16Celcius
Digital thermometer: 21 Celcius

Then later, i put both thermomter back to tank, and results are as below:

Mercury thermometer: 26Celcius
Digital thermometer: 31-2 Celcius..

Which is accurate now?? =.=''

My  tank now is 31.4C now (T.T) according to the digital thermometer.
*
digital , your tank can't be 26'c with fan unless it is rainly night, thermometer tend to have error.

East Aqua MV have the eheim promo since last year smile.gif as also other LFS , guess the eheim distributor Qian Hu have tons of old stock to clear off.
but those eheim classic canister really worth buying since it now come with free media, the media alone already worth 50% of the promo price.

It work and look good ,,, but need more observation of any side effect on shrimps, do let us know if any of your shrimps
able to berried/pregnant after the treatment. Cos one of the LFS boss told me once before he used Fenbendazole to kill planaria/hydra in his shrimps tank but the side effect he got is that his shrimps like become sterile.

Added on April 20, 2012, 2:18 pmwhile we are at it. What would be a nice carpet for my scape.

Dont want to recape just yet. What plants can I add in?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Thinking of some kind of moss as a carpet. Never managed to grow moss before.
This was what it used to look like. (Very early in the growth, HC havent fully grown yet.)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Normally from your plants , new leaf grow old leaf died off, those are the debris, i have that as well. Fish/Shrimps food also stuck in there.
That why i remove all my plants when i convert it into shrimps tank (only left moss and little crypt), just too much waste to manage.(sometime
impossible to remove like when it under plant carpet like your case.)

no wonder. My HC was thinning quite a bit before I rip them off.

What planys you recommend me to plant now? Thinking of doing a shrimp tank. Probably FIre shirmps. Too lazy for CRS...
*
Shrimps tank , you can't run away from MOSS, fortunately moss have nice type like normal & mini fissidens(aka phoenix moss) , mini coral moss , Subwassertang(aka freshwater seaweed) , flame moss, weeping moss and famous christmas moss(look good when cling on tree like driftwood wood).
I don't like java moss(personal taste) laugh.gif
Also get some Marimo Ball, get the large one not the nano. i don't like carpet marimo, if i want carpet i will make it out of coral moss or mini fissidens.
For me i like to plant mini coral moss on little round wood , when it grow up it look like little island.
Nice & easy to maintain.

CRS you can't be lazy but also can't be stingy.

i was at East aqua MV yest, Shiruba canister they giving either 20% or 25% off, final price should be around rm103-118.
Market price is like RM138. if not u can try Eheim HOB liberty 2042 at rm95(normal price rm142) , my 1 feet tank currently using it.

Added on April 20, 2012, 8:30 pmMaintenance of fissiden easier than HC?
*
Of course fissidens is alot easy then HC , coral moss(aka mini pelia) is selling for RM30 a small bunch(5cmx5cm) at LFS, but you multiple it by
tying small portion on few wood/stones.

me too  thumbup.gif  but modded it abit coz not satisfied with the original filtration capacity...

btw got any surface skimmer that can fit this filter or not? tired of manually skimming the water surface during WC...
*
i didn't use any surface skimmer but i install one air pump driven sponge filter at the other end, HOB on left and sponge filter on right.
so far no surface oil at all.

Currently setting up a new shrimps tank and came across a posting by a forumer named avex30
in http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum/showt...imp-tanks/page2
, like the ideas of increasing bio-filter capacity in tank with an UGF , now trying it.

Photo 1 taken from avex30 post cos i forgot to take picture of mine:

my setup : this plastic container can take up 1L of media, using seachem matrix plus seachem De-nitrate media + few pcs of cheapo media.

Too tired now maybe change to a higher container tomorrow, so can fill in more media.

13L tank , just get an HOB like eheim 2041=more then enough , your water volume just too low , even my smallest tank can hold 25L and only using a cheapo no-brand HOB.

In filter you can find of sort things, both of you found dead body but i found a living little colony of RCS in my eheim canister,
some have grow to 1cm length, all of them are colorless cos they have been living in the dark for weeks. Unfortunately half of them been
flush out in the toilet bowl as i didn't notice them early.

3 tray..
start from bottom..

1)bio ring
2)Black sponge " keras" + white sponge
3)white sponge

This arrangement is correct?
*
which filters you brought? today i go ocean life & TDA aquarium , saw the POWER BOX SV MINI you mention. lowest price rm63.
seem ok.

Your arrangement is correct, but you can also use (bottom, water intake)> Bio Ring >hard sponge > Bio Ball > Soft Sponge >(top water out) if your canister have the space.
