SAE like to chase other fish.why ar?poor my cute fishes.huhu. i think i wanna find some fish that can chase him and make him sorry for his doing.huhu.i want him to sh*t brix for a moment.huhu.
*
Flying Fox & SAE, they are known to attack shrimps and small fish , quite aggressive sometime and like to torpedo around, killed a couple of my CRS & RCS, as a punishment , put her into the crayfish tank, now 'diam-diam' settling in a corner.

I dont know about flying fox because i never keep them (for what? .. LOL). but SAE, they actually not harassing or chasing ur other fishes. SAE is territorial once they're adult...

but also, SAE is another type of fish that DOES schools (but not like rasboras or tetras). they need company in the tank with their same species at least more than 5 in a 2ft tank. if they already in a group since juvenile, they wont be so agressive or territorial when they're adult. they'll be together with their groups at night and do their cleaning stuff during the day and ignore other fishes since they have their own species to school with.

this applies to otto as well sometimes. they basically feel lonely and trying to mingle together with other fishes...  not harassing them actually.

so, dont be stingy with SAE. 1-2 SAE in a tank doesnt help much plus things like above might happens. just campak 8+ more SAE and everything will be fine.. ur tank and ur fishes.
*
no way , i rather bear with the algae then get more of them , 8 of them only RM16 , can't even compensate one SS CRS killed by them cry.gif
btw my tank is shrimps tank , the only fish is 6 ottos. and most of the SAE in LFS is adapted to feeding , they lazy in scrubbing algae , compete with
shrimps for food , my 6 ottos too but at least they won't attack my molted shrimps.

wah, u r a good judge to your land of planted yah bro. but i agree with you. why they behave like that? is it because no other taiko in the tank?huhu. im have a soft heart la to do what u have done. huhu. how to solve? any other alternatives?huhu.
*
no worry , the crayfish have hard time caught them unless during water change when water go low as i always do 70-90% WC for crayfish tank, those crayfish have quite alot bio-load. Beside they are grass/ghost colony in there for the crayfish to prey on.

The nearest fish shop I know of is (below); does all the fish shops provide a wide range of plants? Usually the plants I saw are those cheap rm1.50 plants. I think I have to get a listing of the plants available before attempting to buy one, as to suit my personal liking.

99 Fish & Pets

- filter go with the sizes recommended on websites, generally 4-5x the water in your tank. its usually measured how many liters per hour. so a 240 liter tank, ideally needs 1000l/hr filter or more. higher liter per hour is good, but also more expensive. do take note that the filtration effectiveness is usually not so accurate too. the flowrate can be adjusted at the output of the filter ie faster or slower water rate.

This statement makes me confused rclxub.gif I don't even know how much litre my current aquarium holds!

That 99 Fish & pets is uncle style LFS, not much you can get from there unless you want Flower Horn fish, since you're in cheras go
88 Pets Mart Sdn. Bhd.
No. 8, 10 & 12, Jalan Pandan Indah 4/10,
Pandan Indah, 55100 K.L.. Tel: 603-42959160

& Natural Plant Aquarium at
No. 6, Jln Seri Taming 1F,
Taman Seri Taming, 43200 Cheras, Selangor, Tel: 03-9100 5485

more to see and learn there.
For fish tank, you can try Alive Aquarium in Jalan Pudu , cheaper then normal LFS , can bargain abit too.

You can calculate your tank water holding capacity by multiply tank Length x Height x Width ,
for example ,2ft tank with measurement of 60cm Length x 36cm Height x 30cm Width = 64.8 liters
3ft tank with measurement of 90cm Length x 45cm Height x 45cm Width = 182.25 liters
as you can see the 3ft tank is like 3x the capacity of 2ft tank.

Hi arrow  smile.gif

Can I know what does LFS stands for?

I used to have a 4 1/2ft tank at home, but now converted to host tortoise  sweat.gif

There's nothing different between a normal fish tank and a planted tank right?

notworthy.gif
*
LFS stand for Local Fish Shop/Store,
41/2 tank for tortoise ... the tortoise must be huge.

Think you better start with a 2ft tank to try your hand on planted tank , 4 1/2 feet just too much for a beginner, anything need much much
more in a 4 1/2 ft. (soil , deco , bigger filters , Lighting etc) if money is not a problem and you don't mind to break your back for the initial planting
then go with the 4 1/2ft tank.

There is differents , planted tank a lot more complicated and nicer then a normal fish tank but it subjective to individual perceptions on the tank.
Simple : A normal fish tank can or don't have plants but a planted tank can't exist without plants but can make do without fish.

Guys, if I'm going to mid valley area or subang area, any aquarium shops to recommend?

Would like to see different plants and driftwood available. I know ss19 got one Natural aquatics. Any others?
*
Inside Mid-Valley you have East Aqua , outside/nearby mid-valley at Jalan Kuchai Lama inside Tesco you have Nilufar Pets & Aqua(2nd floor),
further down in Klang Lama you have Ocean Life International & Taman Desa Aquarium. East Aqua & Nilufar will have more stone & wood.

In Subang of course Natural Aquatic World(aka NA) Mr.Yee shop at SS19 , have high range of wood & stone, ask for discount.
Further in subang you can go Aquatic International near sungai buloh or goto 88 Pets Mart in sunwaymas commercial centre.
Will give more after i search my GPS back home.

hi all...

anybody know how to prepare infusoria or better yet, where to buy one? my oto is spawning again. im hoping to be able to keep the fries alive for at least till it is 1 cm long...previous fries all died... sad.gif

update :- almost 2 weeks passed.... i still cannot see any hydra in my tank...previous occupants of the tank (prior bombing with zentel) still survive, so i think this method successful...to certain extent.... smile.gif
*
would the ottos fry eat brine Shrimps?
Glad to know zentel work , but the easy way is to just use no-planaria powder, kill both hydra & planaria minus the risk.

it seems that most of hair algae that occurs in my tank maybe directly caused by my marimo..their little strands got separated from the main colony and now attaching to every tank surface it can grab/latch on to making them look like an individual strand of hair algae.
any commnets on this?  hmm.gif

*
Can't be , i have 4 big marimo in my tank and hair algae on my glass, none of the marimo hair is long like hair algae. My mosquito do eat/pull my marimo hair, it is very different from hair algae.
Those are hair algae that attach to all your surface sweat.gif but i think it make you feel better thinking those are marimo hair. laugh.gif

I used the particular activated carbon also called bio ring from LFS. The ring is white in color but before i install the bio ring they already have this symptom and after i install it they look worst. What should i do to get them recover? Will WC help in this case?

I notice only my yamato have this symptom only. My tetra and RCS look fine
*
If your yamato internal flesh turning white, sad to say her time is up, she will died sooner or later, can be in few days or more than a months. Nothing you can do to help her. I have few shrimps like that they eventually died.
Some ppl said it is due sudden lack of oxygen or bacteria infections. I do notice it affect my shrimps when my tank in bad shape last time. I also notice those ghost shrimps get affected when I move them to uncycled crayfish tank.

please help me and answer my question..

tank 2ft x 1ft x 1ft..
lamp 24w x 2..
plant glosso..
soil 1 inch thick..

the light enough for glosso or not??
*
moderate light only, i have the same setup before with 2 x24w not optimal but still manage to grow glosso, if want optimal condition get those 4x24w lighting set, that will give you 4 to 5.6 wpg.

today i did a marathon east aqua studio at mid valley from 11am until 1pm. then went to 88 pets mart at sunwaymas for about 2 hours. then finally to NA at ss19. ended up with 1 potassium and 1 trace from seachem. too bad no java moss to sell at both outlets...

was really nice to see different setups. the DW at 88 petsmart were super high prices... *sweat* but their layout and store is much more neater + lots of rocks for your scaping use. lots of saltwater fish n tank setup as well.

NA got many different types of gravel and a HUGE square tank right in front of the shop.

how lucky are the planters living nearby these 2 shops!
*
since you are going mid-valley , you should have go Nilufar Pet & Aquatic inside Tesco at Kuchai lama first b4 you go East Aqua mid-valley , they have lot of Java Moss & Christmas moss, they also got stone and lot of cheap mangrove wood.
For DW , you can go Natural Plant Aquarium in Taman Sri Taming Cheras, their giving 20% off on DW.

Hi, I need some advise.
Can someone teach me how to prime a caister filter?
I'm using Taiyo 1200.

I filled up the canister with water, and locked the motor head on. The motor is running but it's not sucking water from the tank into the canister.

sad.gif
*
first things to check , are you plugin the inlet tube in the the right place ?(inlet tube wrongly plug into outlet slot). I did that sometimes biggrin.gif .
and did you using chiller ?
My eheim 2213 need clear out the air in the canister first before she can push water through the chiller and back to the tank(reason is my canister is underpowered).

After reading so many online "how to prime a canister filter" questions, I realized that the in and out valves were closed..
I thought it was for locking the pipes... =_=
The canister filter is working perfectly now.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get clear polycarbonate pipes? Planing to make a few rain bars. smile.gif
*
you got the canister for RM150 ? pls give some review of it. Kind of interested in getting one.

beerbottle and luqee... u guys really can be good frens... i think you can use those canister then add on with the shrimp cage like the ones that ciohbu is selling. its fixed at the inlet to the pump (out from the tank) so that small debris or shrimps will not get into the canister pump. thats the safest bet.

with those fishes... i don't think you guys wanna do planted tank with them right? i think they will redesign your layout totally.... happy.gif

i think beer8bottles is a She.
Wonder how many weird fishes this 2 fella keeping , Tilapia 'pun ada'.

Omg, is it hard to maintain it... especially when cleaning the tank, removing the water.. setting up the tank.  icon_question.gif I plan to setup a 2ft tank but am very worried of the consequences. Probably your room is huge  sweat.gif
*
upto 2ft i think it still manageable , i brought one of those 11 liters mineral bottles, 2ft is like 60liters of water , so if water change for 30% will
be like need to carry 3 time the bottle to refill the tank. Good for exercise too.
