Plan to get HOB either HBL-501 or aquaclear..
any1 using this HOB? want to get your feedback for this filter.

plus, what filter medias i need for the planted tank?

thx
*
may i know where u gonna buy the aquaclear HOB , i only saw it in pet safari ikano but
the price is quite high .. aquaclear 20 cost rm82.00 , with that i can buy Eheim Liberty 200 or 2041.
somemore all those aquaclear are left over phased out stock, only few box left are unopened condition.

filters media can opts for JBL micromec, aquaclay etc or more expensive like eheim subtract pro , biohome etc.
but all depend on ur budget.

eheim currently still doing promotion on the classic canister model , 2213(rm279), 2215(rm389) , all come with free filter media.
worth buying.

change of plan. change 1.5ft tank to 2ft tank.
is it ok for me to use HOB or i must use a canister?
budget only around rm100  doh.gif  sweat.gif
*
with rm100 , then u can get the eheim HOB 2042 aka Liberty 200 at promotion price of RM95nett(normal price >rm150).
East Aqua(Mid valley)(Ikano branch out of stock) , 88 Petsmart and some LFS still selling at the promotions price.
Pump output approx: l/h 320-760
i'm using one as an addon filter on my 2 feet tank ever since my eheim 2213 outflow have been crippled by chiller. rolleyes.gif

Bought Aquaclear 20 at New Oasis JB for rm40 (good enough for me) and lava rock rm4/kg.
also bought 3 plant for the scape
is it necessary for me to set up the tank tonight itself since i already bought the plant??  doh.gif
*
wow...rm40 only..good deal since it sell for rm82 here in KL shocking.gif
but u using only lava rock as media inside this filter? hope not as lava rock won't hold much beneficial bacteria.
if budget is the constraint, can buy those cheapo cap ayam filter media. cost < rm15 a box.
btw do they still have stock for those aquaclear filter model 30 & 50?

errr..guys..how to increase pH? reading is 6.0...too low i think
*
ur tank seem to have frequent PH swing , last time u mention PH up to 8 then 6.9 now 6.0 ,
what soil u using ?and what is ur tap water PH? , did u test the water KH?
coral sand/stone will increase PH, but hard to control how much they will increase,
so use a few pcs in filter first then check PH after a day.

yup..i just rescape my tank..and use new soil..h.e.l.p advance soil.. sweat.gif
latest water parameter this afternoon:

pH: 6.0
kh: 0
GH: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 20
i will "pau" some coral chip from local FS..hehe..2 otto can survive that pH..but when i put RCS inside the tank..the will swim like crazy..i take them out and put in my temporary tank.. rclxub.gif
*
Advanced Soil Plant or Advanced Soil Shrimp? , the Advanced Soil Shrimp soil i use before, after cycling for 13 days, PH was like 6.4, now dunno
as i only setup for my friends, gonna check with him what the PH now.
But the soil not that good , can easily crumble into dust when i try to pick it up using Pinsette.

last sunday, my new bought fish and my stable fish in the tank all die. i bought test kit and find out ph is at 6. while ammonia at 2ppm. the kh also at 15ppm. gh, i can't find the test kit.huhu. what i gonna do to repair this worse water condition? please help a bit. using power sand, ada amazonia. tank is 3weeks old
*
You sure your tank is fully cycled? since a cycled tank should have zero ammonia & nitrite with nitrate <=5ppm(preferable zero as well). ADA soil, assume urs is 3 weeks old, it still new and will spike ammonia if ur fish disturb it(dig/korek). GH test kit u can try find brand SERA.

You need to determine what ur fish species requirement, some like higher PH and some lower. Google it.
Now since all ur fish goto heaven, u can do a full/massive >90% water change , then fill up with new de-chlorinated water(don't stir the soil when u put in water), next day do a test on ammonia & nitrite, both should be zero if ur tank
is confirmed cycled/ready.(nitrate should be massively reduced/eliminated with the water change).

If there is reading of ammonia & nitrite that mean u need to continue cycle ur tank until both are zero.
U could do a fishless cycle, since ur ADA amazonia soil is new it will continue to leech ammonia needed for the cycle process or u can dump it some fish food to produce enough ammonia. (fyi ammonia is food for beneficial bio-bacteria & plant), no ammonia, cycling process won't start.

Check ur filter whether is adequate for ur tank , max flowrate should at least 6x ur tank capacity(for example
ur tank is 2feet(around 60litre water capacity) , the filter should at least have 360L/H flowrate.
make sure there is enough bio-media inside the filter to house beneficial bacteria.
go here http://www.eheim.asia/main.html , keyin ur tank demension to determine the capacity.
Provide aeration if possible , for cycling, tank temp above 27c is preferable. (cycling speed up with enough aeration & higher water temp).

come back here after test & done all those.

I found a wriggling thing in my aquarium substrate this morning! About 1cm in length i think. Its clear in color. Wriggling at the edge of my substrate.. T_T What the heck is that.. I see also damn geli, write and research about it also geli lol. I've got no pictures of it coz i have nothing capable of taking picture of it. Dslr take also cannot see .. :\
*
those worm are safe just abit 'geli' , my shrimps tank got alot of those in the substrate, occasionally i pick some up to feed the junior guppy fry.
Planaria won't just come out of nowhere in ur tank , it need to be transfer from things u add in like plant, fauna , water(the water in the plastic bag with the fauna/plant), planaria or their eggs maybe in there.
The NO-PLANARIA powder sold in LFS will get rid of them rm40 for either 40g/50g pack(can last very long)

well, if ure referring to my tank hierachy: its catfish(boss)>ottos(minions)>RCS(middleclass)>Cherry Barbs(slave) since they are the ones getting bullied by RCS lol.
but that thing aside, still, theres a few more individual tubes that are placed apart but still empty. i find they prefer to stay in the moss wall, moss carpet and the floating plants...
nature wins i guess

*
umm. but my shrimps do enjoying those tubes, they grab some food and hide inside to eat by themselves(greedy fella) ,
shrimplets also made those their base. But the different from urs is the only fish i got in the tanks are 5 ottos,
whole tank dominated by shrimps. No threat to them at all.

To cute-miao , what is ur room temperature? and where did u put ur tank, inside a room or in living room?
my another tank default is 30c-31c , with fan reduce to lowest 26'c(night/raining) and highest 28'c.

Are the wroms appearing due to overfeeding? I think i over fed coz everytime i see extra food on substrate

guess so, whenever i see my poor shrimps digging the soil, i pity them cos with our naked eyes we can't really c the microscopic food in it so
i fed them every-time. Those big bottles and many type of shrimp food laying around also make u feel u not fed them enough cos it look like hardly used.

cfu..need your advice
1. what is the minimum lighting requirement for glosso? 2 wpg enough ka?
2. if stem plant creeps, is it because of not enough lighting or too much of light? i realise my stem plant din grow upwards, instead it grow to the side, they even  grow roots at some stem segment
3. how to know the correct amount ferts dosing / co2 injection to give?
4. i had a 'small' outbreak of hydra. any advise on how to eradicate them?
*
1) i did have 2.82wpg before, glosso did grow and carpeting like 70% before i eradicate them all. The distance from the light to the soil substrate is like 30cm though. mine is T5 1x24w aquasonic tube + 1x24w hagen lifeglo in 2ft tank.
2) if creeps normally enough light if not they will 'stand up' and waving their hand(leaf) for the light.
It is normal for stem plant to grow root at the stem segment , that why it called stem plant, that how their propagates.
3) Know your tank capacity and follow the fert instructions on bottle/ you can get the Co2 indicator to show whether there is enough Co2 in your tank.
4) refer to http://www.shrimpnow.com/forums/showthread...kill-hydra-also
and you have RM40 to spare , why not? you may need to kill planaria in the future.

Different , obviously brand is different, quality unquestionable with seachem. i got sold bcos
of these -> Additionally, Stability® contains facultative bacterial strains which are able to adapt to either aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The bacteria in Stability® are non-sulfur fixing, another innovation in the industry. Most other bacterial supplements will form toxic hydrogen sulfide under the proper conditions. Stability® will not, ever.

what are those orange color small ball like stuff on the gravel?
imo, the dragon stone on the left be taller a bit to cover the filter intake head, glosso look like just plugged-in
not yet taken root. But i like the flat stone on the left , a few shrimps on those will be nice.

umm those look like JBL micromec media in the filter.
