I ordered their normal one recently, E3D V6. The review on E3D hot end is quite good.

Good choice of hotends for your printer. Care to share which printer you are using?

I have tried another type of hotend from Australia known as the JGR alu-hotend (http://thejollygrimreaper.blogspot.com/2012/11/all-metal-hotend.html) and I can say the design is well thought out provides really good prints.

I am currently using Reprappro Ormerod. Thinking of upgrading the hotend, and currently there they are offering discount 15%.

I also notice the JGR from singapore Qwikfab Store.
*
Yes, you can get it from Qwikfab. They also sell quality filaments too. Quality in the sense that, their QA is very stringent which makes their filament work really well with all types of printers. They also mentioned to me their filament is designed for high speed printing too.

What printer are you using currently ?

I am using a red Printrbot Simple Metal http://printrbot.com/shop/assembled-simple-metal/

Its the best 3D printer I have used so far and it has produced quality prints consistently.

Looking to get this in the future. all reviews are pointing towards this being the best hotend on the market today.
Heh was looking at the JGR before, now ordered blomker's own hotend since its similar to JGR. plus its local, if it works great will continue to use it and support local business.

Btw qwikfab website doesn't list ABS anymore. hmm
*
I think Qwikfab is keeping the ABS for in-house use. I remember them having 3kg spools of ABS in their office. They are also providing 3D printing as well but I think they open the service for commercial prints.

i print on an MK2B heated bed (heated bed pcb + 3mm alu) and white painters tape ACE hardware brand, sticks so well sometimes the tape tears off when prying print off. Only beef i have is that after afew prints and pry's, the painters tape crumples abit and the bottom of the print has weird shapes on them.

I also tried printing straight onto bare alu bed, didn't have much luck tho.
*
Have you tried making a dilute solutiom of PVA glue and apply a thin coating on the bare aluminum? The painters tape adhesive is not very heat resistant and dries out when heated. Also the tape adhesive leaves a melted residue on the surface too.

Instead of painters tape, you can use kapton tape instead but it adheres well to the aluminum surface for wide tapes of a few inches.

Hi guys!

Its good to know that there is a community here in lyn. Anyway, I am new to this 3D printing scene. I would like to get my hands on a DIY printer so is there any good recommendation from you guys?

Thanks in advance.
*
Hi and welcome to the Reprap community where we discuss about 3D printers and also double as support group in Malaysia.

I guess the rest have answered your question of choosing a reprap printer based on budget but you should also consider the print size, quality and reliability of each 3D printer you plan to invest in.

There are tons of commercial 3D printers out there but from my experience, I wouldn't recommend you anything priced above RM 3500 unless you are seeking to start a 3D printing business but also don't be too cheap about choosing a printer because there are trade off in quality and performance. Like me, I chose a mid range budget printer like the Printrbot Metal Simple and it has been doing an excellent job as I expected it to while leaving some room for my own upgrade.

You should first read up a little on what a 3D printer can offer and what not, and you can start with the 3D Hub printer guide here https://www.3dhubs.com/best-3d-printer-guide .

My first was an i3 DIY kit, and now i'm building my 2nd i3 sourcing my own parts/electronics/print head.

Hi guys!

Is there any reading material which I should go through while waiting for my kit to arrive? I have gone through the assembly manual numerous time and i think i should not have any issue with it. Is there any do's and dont's while assembling my printer?

Thanks in advance.
*
Best way to learn about 3D printers is to visit forums and blogs of ppl working on repraps or 3D printing. you could read up 3D hubs printer guide 2015, tells you what printers are good and not.

3ders.org/ is a good site for 3D printing news. A lot of interesting articles. Best place to get inspired.

You should be familiar with reprap.org/?

Hmmm... whats a thread lock? I thought acrylic should be quite sturdy and i was told that i should be careful with the printed parts instead. tongue.gif
*
A brand name for thread lock is Loctite. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loctite. Instead of Loctite, you can use super glue which works well for me but drying time is a pain.

QUOTE(DarkTenno @ Jan 16 2015, 11:43 AM)
thread lock is a liquid used to hold nut it will harden after a while so nut wont go loose buttt it have very bad effect with plastic it will eat them tongue.gif,

cha.968

I wish I can have that kind of farm too tongue.gif, but unlike altan I dont have a business model yet lol, and most of my print are for personal use for now  brows.gif
*
Instead of thread lock, you can use nylon insert nuts or nylock nuts, works well but takes a lot of time to screw in.

Even with my business model, I am not even making enough to start a farm from the low demand for 3D prints in Malaysia. Farm works when there is bulk demand say 100 units print per day then that will likely work out. That's why I am taking my time developing my in-house printer since one printer in my arsenal is good enough for the job.

Does anyone here have any experience buying an overseas 3d printer and shipping it into Malaysia before? Wanted to buy but just unsure about customs.
*
[QUOTE]

I did that but got it ship into Singapore, was using UPS and the service was terrible. My printer came in with a broken z axis coupler. As for Singapore customs, I have to pay for the gst tax since it costed more than USD 500. Don't know about Malaysia custom though but I think since the package is large and if the stated package value on the postage notice is more than a certain amount ( seem to vary from person to person) in USD, expect to pay import tax.

so you actually paying for the candy, the hotend is a free gift tongue.gif, btw anyone here printing PLA on bare aluminium heated bed beside me? I really miss the glossy finish I get from printing on glass bed with PVA glue + water mixture, I just can't get same glossy finish with PLA when printing directly on aluminum bed

and wanted to try flex filament but I don't think it will work with bowden setup  blush.gif
*
I put a layer of masking tape on the aluminium bed and use diluted PVA to improve the adhesion. Though, mine isn't a heated bed.

Flex filament may be stiff enough for Bowden but not for ninjaflex. The only clue is to run the extrusion speed really really slow to prevent buckling.

Qwikfab but they produce their own blend so it may be a little different from the actual Flexi PLA.

Just ordered a Flame Red Flex Filament from Qwikfab as well. Hopefully it work smoothly on my printer.

It works on my printer but it can still buckle when printing too fast. My successful print speed was set to 40 mm/s for a 0.1 mm layer height print.

About Flexi filaments, I recently printed 2 sets of 36" GT2 timing belt and I haven't have the time to test it out. Anyone want to tryout the flexi filament printed GT2 timing belts? I can send it for free via poslaju express but you have to test it out with your reprep and let me know how it is.
