Not quite.

Any reason why the C4 isn't a contender?

Trying to do some Rpi 4 love later, but HardKernel has also been on my radar.

It's obvious. You don't call an SoC with only small core a contender to the one with big core.
thankyou

just bought it last month 4B 4GB version.
this is my 2nd raspberry pi, 1st is the original version, 1st gen.( long2 time ago and sold it)

so far
- kodi still ok when browsing, but lag when the movie still playing. same experience when i use 1st gen
- running raspbian , youtube on chromium still stutter, enable some tweak found on google, now running ok but still got but not so visible.
- when running android 9, lineageos, the display still slow due to some display driver issue, dev already mentioned about this.
- running cpu stress test, temp from 40c(idle) to highest 60c. running with 1 small fan and small heatsink in stack casing type.

im not sure if my expection is too high, already watch few youtube about this 4B before bought it and all review said the fastest raspberry pi.
but after use it, i think still not up to my expection. the performance, the optimization and the UI should at least equal to mid range android phone.

anyways, its good for tinkering with other stuff. now my next project, i want it to run pihole and temp, humidity monitoring, just need to buy the sensor 1st.

I've had versions 1, 2 and 3. Haven't gone for 4 yet.

Gave up trying to do anything that has any interactivity. It's a bit too slow for desktop use, unusable for 4k HTPC and while retro gaming worked ok, Parsec didn't work as well as I thought it should.

As a low powered server though it works reasonably well. Pihole is very reliable especially blocking ads on phones/iPads in the house. I'm experimenting to setup the pi as a VPN gateway for the house as well as a low end NAS/cloud backup gateway.

Good luck

iinm videos are still not hardware accelerated, hence the stutter in youtube and kodi. I also own the pi b+ and pi 4 2gb, most of the time i use it headless for running torrents, small file server, pi hole and etc, so far i'm quite satisfy with it
thankyou

That's the reason I won't jump to 8GB until they have the issues fixed... Using them as mini server instead of media player for now...

Have you tried the latest raspbian? The new name is Raspberry Pi OS. Do let me know if the issues still persists as online reviews suggest that it is the better version than the last one.

Great. Do share with us your findings. Hipe you enjoy the latest OS.

As for the 64bit OS, i think at the moment the 64bit version is good to have but not essential as you can still make use of all the available RAM by running multiple processes (e.g running multiple tab on your browser), unless you really need the ability for a single process to use more than 3GB.

i just flash my sdcard with the latest raspberry pi os from here
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/

seem my existing raspbian already running this latest version after i run the apt-get update/upgrade this morning.
check the version and kernel seem same.

1 thing i notice on fresh installation raspberry pi os, the video on youtube still got stutter, but abit ok after a while. running 1080p full screen on youtube.

currently only got 32bit for now. 64bit still in beta

source: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=275370

This is a beta test of the Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit)

We still recommend the 32 bit operating system for all Pis at this time, although have decided it is now time to begin the move toward a 64bit OS. For the moment this is a 'beta' program, the OS is in heavy flux and its functionality is likely to change significantly over the next few months.

Note, the 64bit OS is only install-able on the Pi 3 and Pi 4 devices

Download here

Please Download this image and use the Raspberry Pi Imager Tool to write to an SD card

Known issues
1) There is no hardware video acceleration in VLC or Chromium
2) libraspberrypi0, libraspberrypi-dev and libraspberrypi-doc have been moved out of /opt/vc/* and into /usr/* instead (making it more standard). Any code built against these libraries will require changing to refer to a more standard location (/usr/lib/ rather than /opt/vc/lib)
3) raspberrypi-bootloader and raspberrypi-kernel contain useless non-64bit binaries and is missing the work done to minimise the delay between files being deleted and installed to /boot

Thanks but I've decided to leave my rpi3 as a pihole/ssh server for now
Even with the rpi4 there's no AES hardware acceleration so VPN will be slow especially for me with a fast link

I've been running PiVPN and PiHole on my RaspberryPi 2B for quite a while. Recently I realised I'm not able to access my PiVPN and internal network from outside using TunnelBlick or OpenVPN client. Anyone has any problem with this? I' using Digi Infinite 150 package at home. Would appreciate any pointers to overcome this problem.
