Hi all,
Late to the party, but I got my RPi B+ today from Thundermatch.
Intend to make an Owncloud server. Have not yet searched this thread, but has anyone done so?

QUOTE(orangutan @ Nov 25 2014, 10:36 AM) How much you paid and what parts did it include (ie. power unit, case, etc.)? RM139, barebones only. There was a PwP RM49 for power supply and 16Gb card but I didn't need that.I plan to do the same in the near future. How do you want to connect to your storage? External HDD / NAS ? It is powering very well from my Mi 10400mAh powerbank, and after 2 hours of setup and installs, it was still at 4 bars. I used a Rii Mini wireless keyboard/mousepad combo and it's working fine, and I also added bluez and blueman and have bluetooth keyboard and mouse working. Will explore more tonight. |

QUOTE(zlewe @ Nov 27 2014, 01:28 PM) Hi guys, I want to buy RPi for learning purpose and some coding. Planning to buy a B+ and a case. With shipping etc, might as well buy from Thundermatch. RM139 only.Search on the net and found element14. Element14 has the cheapest price but unfortunately they didn't sell to consumer. Then they redirect me to 2 places, ThunderMatch and Fentix, but the price is quite high compared to other. Any alternative? |

QUOTE(sky03 @ Nov 27 2014, 10:17 PM) hi guys im new here. just wondering if any1 manage to make a raspberry pi hotspot modem? i m interested to use this with my yes4g dongle... if any1 could help me? much appreciate.. thanks My past experience (2 years ago) with Yes is that it is coded fully in some M$ language, and even the client is a full M$ executable, probably due to being "easier" or faster time-to-market.So, I suspect it may not be recognizable by a *nix system. |

QUOTE(sky03 @ Nov 29 2014, 04:00 PM) i heard dat if we abruptly turn off pi it will corrupt the sd card? is it true? If you are running a linux distro, you have to perform shutdown from the OS. Same goes for windows as well. Abrupt shutdown will corrupt any OS.anyone here did a DIY safe shutdown or off button for their pi? please guide n share here. thanks very much |

QUOTE(light0range @ Dec 18 2014, 10:26 PM) Replying from phone, apologies in advance for auto correct. bro, may I suggest the Odroid C1, which is about 2.5x more powerful than the Pi, at the same price of USD35. It was just announced last week, and by January, stocks should be available.@Ubitap, awesome advice, still Googling, I found that we can use both the 5Vsb & 5V fit powering pi, but mixed message on the ±12V. The PSU will be under utilised if only 5Vsb & 5v can be used, have you done any project using this method? On connecting to PI, I am thinking of buying microUSB male connectors & solder the wire onto it & then use that to power pi in order to use internal pi protector. @orangutan, thanks for the video link, limited capacity mobile data at the moment, will checkout those once I have WiFi. On collaboration, I am not sure exactly when I am starting this yet, earliest in January once my next work assignment has been confirmed, I may need to move to Miri (rumours), but not confirmed yet. If I am staying in KL, then sure, any help will be greatly appreciated. I have a couple of electrical engineering friends whom I am planning to entice to help me as well, we'll see. I am planning to read, learn & put everything on paper first before I start purchasing stuff. Once I can get the mental picture, then will do some sketch and excel costing. I have about RM 1k budget for prototyping. Will see if this is feasible. Of course it takes in 2x the power, but still 5V. It's likely using the 2.1mm DC connector, but the pics aren't clear yet. |

QUOTE(redlyfs @ Dec 18 2014, 11:54 PM) Where will it be available locally? Btw here's the link to the power. RPI handles max load of 1.8A, not sure the max for C1 but product listing shows the psu is 2A. Locally, not sure, since Odroid does not have a wide presence, and largely caters to Korea and US markets. You could always try getting from Odroid directly, but I read that their shipping fees can be hefty. Maybe a bulk will be good. Pi can work with minimum of 700mA, IINM, but Odroid *may* need a 2x minimum, since the GPU is more power hungry. |

QUOTE(redlyfs @ Dec 19 2014, 12:05 AM) Hmm I'll just wait and see first. My main reason is to build a robust emulator station. At the moment, even with OC, my RPI running PSX games can be quite draggy at times Yes, absolutely. I did Raspbian on it, and the experience was not optimal, to say the least.I ended up resurrecting my Atom N270 netbook with half its battery capacity gone (2 of 4 cells dead), and it was still working fully. Maybe Ubitap could handle a bulk? |

+5Vsb is the Green line IIRC, you short it to ground (any black line). Then you can turn it on and off from the mains.
*PLEASE CHECK DOCUMENTATION* This is from memory, and memory is the thing we forget with Get a quality ATX power supply, like Seasonic or Silverstone. Those RM50 ones have really bad current rippling. There's some dude on the web that tests power supply but his site was last updated about 2 years ago, but you can read about all the principles behind a good PSU. His opinion is that the CHEAP (500W and below) CoolerMasters suck, and CoolerMaster responded to him saying that "we believe in the value we offer our customers". You may interpret that sentence any way you want. |

QUOTE(light0range @ Dec 19 2014, 02:23 PM) @Ubitap, may not necessarily reach 100 pi, but I am trying to follow a project I found online (pi3dscan), but not enough details, & I am trying to find alternative to some parts of the design. Managed to Google a few reasonably priced DC/DC Step Down (Buck) converter . Thanks again for the tips. BTW, out of topic, what is the code for proper forum username quote ya? @joytest, noted with thanks on PSU vendors, looked into it, maybe will go with Silverstone Slider Essential, other options seems too costly for my requirements. CODE [@joytest] square brackets |

QUOTE(TheWandererX @ Dec 24 2014, 07:40 PM) Hi guys. Kinda interested in playing around with Raspberry Pi. Any tutorials/101s as to what it can do? Was thinking of making one into a 'home server' so that I can access my items without being at home. Owncloud is the best bet. However, after running it on normal Raspbian for testing, the performance is quite dismal.Since there seems to be some interest, perhaps we can all get ubitap to bulk an Odroid C1. The Odroid is supposed to be at least 2x the Pi performance, and compatible with many Pi add ons. |

QUOTE(lp1986 @ Dec 30 2014, 12:19 PM) I got a B+ for christmas this year. Is there anywhere in Low Yat Plaza that has a selection of raspberry pi cases and tools etc? Also, cheapest place to buy a keyboard and wifi usb dongle? I've never had to buy this sort of stuff in KL before. Cases, don't think so.All wireless keyboard /mouse combos should work, and with a little bit of effort, even Bluetooth keyboards and mice work. Get a cheap Logitech or Rapoo combo set. For wifi dongles, a lot work, there's a list of known working dongles online. Check it out. |

QUOTE(sky03 @ Jan 10 2015, 03:01 PM) i was wondering if raspi could work with laptop wifi card since some of them have much higher performance... the ones with mpcie connector. i mean i could solder some wires to usb ports. any1 hav tried this before? QUOTE(wcypierre @ Jan 10 2015, 06:35 PM) I would suggest against that. Raspberry Pi doesn't have *that amount of* bus bandwidth that normal PC has. Not to mention that you need to write the driver to make it working. pierre is correct. USB only has D+ and D- pins. There are way more pins in mPCIe that handle CLK etc. And I'm sure you would also have to write the driver. |

IMHO, Windows 10 on a Pi2 will just castrate the performance.
Furthermore, I read somewhere that the bandwidth of the LAN port is shared with the USB...odd design decision. |

FYI, Thundermatch Lowyat has the RPI 2 going for RM159. Purely as a matter of convenience and instant gratification.
I didn't buy one though, thinking of getting Odroid C1 for Android. |
