hey, new here, saw Raspberry Pi can do a lot of things. Feel like buy one and tinker with it and learn some techie knowledge.

just want to ask you guys if you can help me understand the difference
http://my.element14.com/jsp/bespoke/bespok...equestid=249225

whats the difference between the SD card provided?
MEMORY, SDCARD, RASPBERRY PI, 4GB
MEMORY, 4GB, SDHC, ULTRA

both same capacity, just one preinstalled the OS in it but is halved.

Once clarified will order the lot and learn how to tinker about biggrin.gif

Thanks, do let me know what else I need aside from the board, HDMI screen/ cable, ethernet, USB keyboard/ mouse
*
Buy your own SD card and install whatever OS you want. Much cheaper.

With so many types of USB hub at different price level/ design/made in China, it is hard to determine which ones have over-current protection at port or device or any protection at all..

See this example for the PTC
( http://dangerousprototypes.com/docs/ATX_Br...design_overview )

Start up with hello world.. C or C++..

learn using either vi,vim,nano,gedit and compiler such as tcc, gcc, g++

Pretty simple.. google up and good luck ! smile.gif

then i definitely recommend you to take up python instead of C if you wanna do more than just installing RaspBMC. much simpler and direct.

Yup! I already found that page and successfully created the lircd.conf file.
But can't get Raspbmc to see the remote signal
Also there is no Remote Tab in Programs>Raspberry Settings window so I can't do Step 5

The 5V 1.0A adapter that comes with this hub measures 5.9V at the jack.
But after you plug into the hub and power the Pi from one of the ports>micro USB, I get fluctuating readings from below 4V to above 5V at TP1 & TP2
Hub was not connected to Pi USB port.

learning c/c++ or assembling language will give him a foundation of basic programming.
From there onwards, there wont be much difference when porting up to java, C,C++...

For really basic stuff, can go to MagPi.
Got other stuff that u can do with the Pi too.

well c/c++ is anything BUT basic.

the language norm for RPi is python anyway, and if he wants to do anything related to GPIO then Python can get him up and going in no time instead of doing the same thing in C, or even mov ax,cx in assembly for that matter

well, for me, i felt C/C++ very much easier to customize.
And response rate from sensors are faster. When the code gets huge
with sqlite3 database integration and running simultaneously in
6 different threads, c++ performs faster in ramfs (ram disk).
This is what i felt, it may differ compared to the others.

A small overview.

CODE

//declare headers
#include <iostream>
#include <wiringPi.h>

CODE

//declare which GPIO pins to use
#define sensor_1 27
#define sensor_2 22

CODE

//set up pin mode, either input or output
pinMode(sensor_1,INPUT);
pinMode(sensor_2,INPUT);

CODE

//setup gpio pin numbering
if (wiringPiSetupGpio()) return 0;

CODE

// if yes, continue the code (may place this in loops)
if ( digitalRead(sensor_1))
{

{

Don't like linux or raspbian on yr RPi ?

Just write your own operating system from the beginning...

A beginners tutorial to program the RPi using ARM assembly language...
