It's not hard to open. Just press down on the raised knob. It will flip up. But be careful because it is very fragile.

Well folks, it's time to put my N9 in storage. Just bought a Lumia 920 and I don't think I'll be using my N9 again anytime soon.

There's still some things the N9 does better, like searching for music/contacts, but overall WP8 is a lot smoother and responsive. Plus, the WhatsApp client is official so I don't have to worry about Wazzap failing whenever the protocol changes.

And before anybody asks, no, I won't be selling my N9. It's a unique phone and I plan to keep it forever. smile.gif

Before WP8, I would not have recommended Windows Phone to anybody. The WP7 phones had a lot more limitations - no Bluetooth file transfer, no USB Mass Storage, everything had to be done through Zune. The WP7 homescreen was also a lot more limited, no resizable tiles at all.

But now WP8 has overcome these limitations and it's a lot smoother than the N9's MeeGo. I know some people are waiting for Jolla's new Linux mobile OS, but realistically I think if you want a phone that's fast and has similar build quality to the N9, Nokia's Lumia flagships are the way to go.

If you really prioritize customization however, then go for Android. However the WP8 homescreen tiles can customized more or less with free apps. Here's my home screen:

WP is improving but not there yet. There are still many niggling usability issues in WP8 like WiFi cutting off when screen sleeps, no central notification screen, common volume control for media player and ringer, unable to save draft SMS and no weekly view for calendar schedule while monthly view is too small to read. These are just some examples, you will find many others in due course. I find MeeGo a much better OS. Nokia knows how to make a good smartphone OS while Microsoft is still learning the ropes.

Even in terms of apps MeeGo has many high quality ones which WP lacks. You won't find any call blocker, call recorder or flashplayer in WP8. There is only one pdf reader in WP8 and it is a very lousy one with many limitations.

WP is smooth but only in scrolling its flat 2D menu. Fast resume is no match for true multitasking. Switch to a background app in N9 and you can resume straightaway while WP has to load back the app.

Still, one man's meat is another man's poison. Good luck!

Agreed. Using a Lumia 920 now, and I'm really annoyed at the inconsistent notifications, especially on Whatsapp. I've missed A LOT of Whatsapp notifications when the 920 is locked. No notification sounds. No visual cues. Then when unlock the phone, bam, 20-30 messages come in. But other times, the notification sounds pop up. I seriously have no idea how the background task works.

On the other hand, while I'm still trying to get used to the replacement of a central notification system with Live Tiles, I also found out that Gtalk is not supported - and I use that a lot at work. Speaking of which, both the Lumia 920 and 820 cannot detect certain WiFi networks - probably a router compatibility thing.

Finally, I sometimes stupidly stare at the locked Lumia 920, expecting to see the low power screen. Lol

But on the other hand, I am also liking the smoothness and fluidity of the OS. And of course, the camera is just insanely good. It really makes you wonder what the N9 or its successor could do with similar hardware.

If you are a Linux user or depend a lot on Google services (Gmail, Docs, Google+) then I think Android would be a better choice than WP8.

Since I already tried iOS, Android and MeeGo before, And I already had a Windows/Hotmail account, I decided to give WP8 a try.

Maybe I'm lucky - I haven't had any problems with WiFi or WhatsApp. Although there are lots of minor annoyances as mentioned the overall improvement in performance is good enough an upgrade for me.

In short, L920 and PV808 have something in common: Good camera sensor. But is that justify to take a good camera phone for daily use or not? That, will depends on individual.

In the mean time i will start counting how many new post on garage sales for 2nd hand L920 for sale icon_idea.gif

In terms of Camera:

Sadly L920 maybe only useful mostly for static objects. For those who love to shoot foods, toys, etc may be very well satisfied with it, but if we want to capture moment, actions, the Optical Stabilization will be of no use and you'll be more than annoyed if the camera keeps prioritizing to use slow shutter, and then the other smartphones can capture action better in default mode. For other smartphones, they can turn on night mode or adjust the settings to force the camera to use a slower shutter to get a comparable low light static object.

PV808 is on a totally different league, what it can do, no other smartphone will be capable of doing. One can maximize the zoom at 3MP PureView mode, take a shot and check out the details, and try with any other smartphone camera zoom to the same distance and take the shot then check and compare, it's just so BIG difference there, the one taken with other smartphone camera after zoom to the same distance, looks like or worst than a cheap CCTV camera recording screenshot image.
