hi all! im new to smartphones, and may wanna get one. currently interested with galaxy w. i've read alot of reviews online, and i've read thru the pinned post of this thread (4 threads in fact! in just a few months  ) noticed that there are quite a number of galaxy w owners here.

pardon my ignorance on smartphones but its hard for me to go through each post in these threads, i've only read the first few pinned by TS.

anyway, is there anything i should be aware/know regarding this model? i mean, so far i see no huge problem with this phone (from online reviews, etc), but sellers at my area warned me about the quality of this phone. one shop told me there's prob with the speakers (or earphone im not sure), another told me to watch out for 1st batch of phones (claimed that 1st batch has bad build quality and asked me to wait for 2nd batch and stuffs like that), truth is, i dont know which is true. plus not many shop carry this model in my area, most of them either say they dont have stock or the display unit is the last one.

anyway TLDR: a newb getting touchscreen smartphone for the first time, wanna know is it safe to get this model at this time?  cheers

now i get it what u meant "Stock" homescreen.

I personally also dont like too many shortcuts icon appear on the homescreen.. looks messy just like PC desktop haha
i like clean appearance lolx.

Personally I always set max at 1.4ghz using OnDemandX. This setting give me max battery.

If I am doing CheatEngine hack or anything intensive, I will use 1.8ghz, still on OnDemandX.

I tested MinMax too, this governor is very strange, but should give you max performance, but at the same time, second best battery. If you use this, you can see in CPU time slice that the freq only between lowest and max, hence, MinMax. Meaning, your CPU either lowest (ie 245mhz) or max (ie: 1.4ghz).

when you Clear Memory memory, app got killed. Read the text before you press that button!

the thing is, some widget are smart, they auto-restart when got killed, some are not.

some widgets are designed to work with the launcher. so, launcher will restart them when they got killed.

for example, in TwLauncher, if you Clear Memory. Digital Clock 'stuck', but Dual Clock will still work. That is because Dual Clock will be restarted by TwLauncher.

If you want to use GO Launcher, use GO widget, Go Launcher will restart those if they ever get killed.

Cow, since u swap the usb storage(actual external SDCard) and the SDCard(actual internal 1.7GB) on ur custom ROM.... Now all my apps and games are in the SDCard 1.7GB, so..how to transfer apps or games to the usb storage which is my actual external SDCard.???????

sms try titanium backup or when u replace with cwm recovery, u can do full backup and restore later.

get the guide from gastacopz, i have guide him to backup restore everything as well.

(2)I try to reinstall my sms and mms, contacts etc using mybackup pro. But during restore, it says
Error: I/O error: Unable to write to SD Card. Make sure the SD Card is inserted properly.
This is because 3 layers of memory now Cow changed to 2 layers? Just a guess.

Using OC COW in Black ROM, so far so good, no lag or FC.....love the battery indicator.... TQ to CWG...

If u are the 1st timer, YES
If u upgrade from previous cow's rom, u don't have to wipe, just flash it.

Oh its just changed the RAMmanagement i assume....?? Now average i got free memory is 130MB - 140MB...
Ermm no lags ever detected...Except if I use Android Assistant to clear memory....So i think better stay with stock now..hihi

Its the list of the system apps that can be safely removed but that is IF were not using some of the function...
Ive delete some but some of them i remain unchanged coz afraid like clock function go rogue...
I saw sumtimes google process running in background oso...but sked if i delete it, some will go wrong...

Pardon some noobish question, never used a Android phone b4.

I am considering W or Note. Question,

1) I noticed the screen resolution is different so will 3rd party app/games scale nicely on it?

2) Is Papago running smooth in W?

3) Is W processor good enough to play most games? Are there any games that it cannot play because require faster processor like Note/Nexus? How will I know the app/games is not compatible with W?
