Wahhh I leave for 3 hours and the thread exploded by another 150 posts ... susah mahu follow.

edmundlah ... you MUST NOT restore your iPhone, You must stick to 5.0 so the restore option that people mentioned does not apply to you.

It is better f you have a Mac but if you do not have a Mac, you can either wait for the Windows GUI version to come out soon (probably later tonight or early tomorrow morning) or you can try the Command Line Interface (that's what the CLI stands for and apparently a lot of people find it quite easy to do). The instruction can be found via some of the post in Page 19 (my post) or Page 20-21 which is a bit clearer. I'll see if I can post some guide from iClarified for the CLI method.

This will only jailbreak your iPhone 4s in 5.0 (again, I must stress that you must not upgrade to 5.0.1 even with 9A405 build). You will still need to wait for Musclenerd to release the unlock which I'm sure he will once the jailbreak is out.

so i would assume a fresh restore would be the fastest to jb rite? no wonder did it in less than 5 min overall (minus the restore lah hehehe)

Since the injection vector depends on the backup/restore exploit, the bigger your backup file, the longer it will take. So that is why people who did a clean restore before the jailbreak managed to jailbreak it really fast. I did mine using Absinthe (I have a Mac) within 3-5 minutes. Not long at all.

Wokay! Noted!  Thanks for your fast reply bro..  thumbup.gif

Think I'll wait out for the Windows GUI since if i jailbreak now, I still can't use it as a phone..  doh.gif
*
Yes, I'd recommend you wait for the Windows GUI since it will still be an iPod even if you jailbreak it using CLI.

I haven't used Windows in a while but does CD needs to be capitalized when you run it in the command prompt?

I thought this is a good guide on using the CLI and the steps for those who need it.

Wait until the windows GUI is out. Cydia will be so choked with traffic.

This is similar to when the Corona exploit was released for the A4 devices. You just have to be patient with Cydia and it's morning/afternoon in the western hemisphere so Cydia must be slammed right now.

Here's another Guide from redmondpie. Tell me if the Guide is okay and I'll post it in the OP as one of the Guide for the 4s.

The jailbreak should work on 5.0 and 5.0.1. If you are on a locked 4s, you need to stick with 5.0 and not upgrade. If you are on a factory unlocked set then just upgrade either using the 9A405 or 9A406 which should be okay. Set it as a new phone and use CLI 0.43 to jailbreak. Follow the guide and you should be ok

Should be okay to delete the VPN profile. It was used to inject the exploit, once you have Cydia running, you can delete the profile

can i know should i choose user or hacker ?

User is enough. You usually choose hacker if you want to see all the tweaks that is usually hidden in the Cydia installed list.

Hello guys , how to backup everything that i have installed in cydia?
*
Aptbackup will backup the list of your cydia tweaks to iTunes and once you restore your iPhone ad jailbreak, install Aptbackup and restore your list and Aptbackup will try and automatically search cydia and restore your tweaks. It's free.

heys guys whats the diff between CLI and GUI version of jailbeak?
*
GUI is especially easier to users than the CLI version. If the windows version is similar to the Mac version then all you have to do is run the jailbreak program and you're done. All the hard work is done by the tool. The CLI is usually for tinkerers and hackers. But it was easy enough that a lot of our users were able to JB their iDevices without any issues.

Re-spring will usually solve the issue. If it doesn't, open Cydia and install CyDelete and also wait for Cydia to fully load.

Added on January 22, 2012, 12:30 pmI have updated the OP to include the Windows GUI Absinthe tool. Please refer to the OP and if you still have any questions, post them away here.

Again, NO DISCUSSION on PIRACY.

Thanks for all those members who reprimanded others for trying to discuss/post piracy sources/tweaks.

Saw that no one has answered your Qs.

To do a fresh restore, download the latest firmware file for your iPhone from the link below. Please backup your iPhone before you do this

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Once the firmware file has been downloaded, open up iTunes and press Shift Key and at the same time Press the Restore button (of course while the iPhone is connected to the computer). Point the dialog box to where you saved the firmware files and wait while iTunes restore your iPhone

Set it up as a new phone and jailbreak using either the Windows or Mac Absinthe.

is that normal? O.O
*
No, not normal. Try rebooting your iPhone and see if you're still having issues. If you are then a fresh restore may be needed.

Yeah the Dream team really delivered this time and using the Backup/Restore for the injection method is pure brilliance. I donated 10 bucks last night coz I got my FaceTime on my 4s (Middle East version don't have FaceTime .... stupid Apple) and that is worth every penny.

A respring is a refersh of the springboard.

Tell you what, open up Cydia and install SBSettings. Once SBSettings is installed, you just swipe the top status bar and all the iPhone toggles will come up. There is a button called Respring. Press that and the iPhone will respring and hopefully your white icon issues will be solved.

If not, try and install CyDelete also from Cydia and Re-spring. See if that will work as well.

clay89, please remove any reference to piracy enabling tweaks (you know what I mean).

Whatsapp was free for a couple of weeks last time (that's how I got it), so either pay the 0.99 cents (that's RM3.10) or be patient and wait for the promo.

Seriously, it's only 3 ringgit for apps that you use most. Some apps have "lite" versions for you to try and if you're happy with it, it's probably not going to cost more that RM3.50 ... I'm pretty sure you can afford it.

Whatsapp was free one time. I guess we people will find 1000 reason to pirate if we want to.

I too having white icon on Safari. But safari was working.

My Youtube had the white icon issues but when I installed CyDelete and respring, it solves the problem.

Let's hope it doesn't have the issues similar to the iPhone 4. iPhone 4 jailbroken with winterboard had some severe lagging issues.
