Yeah, make sure it is factory unlocked/sim free. If however you are going to use it in Australia and will be using it on contract then it's okay. Absinthe is very simple to use.

Have you looked at LockInfo? Not sure if it's compatible with iOS 5 but I'm pretty sure it does what you mentioned.

The stock Music App?

Not necessarily. If he used preserve baseband only method, it will not jailbreak (it will upgrade and preserve baseband only). I think the guide (for sn0wbreeze) in post #1 should be helpful. You should use Expert mode which will preserve baseband and also jailbreak at the same time.

He never mentioned how he installed Corona because in the same sentence he mentioned that he had to use redsn0w to boot so basically he's confusing everyone also heh heh heh.

This is what I gathered

1. You upgraded your iPhone 4 using sn0wbreeze and preserve your baseband - how did you do this? Via Expert Mode or Basic Mode or Preserve Baseband mode only?
2. How did you install Corona? Was your iPhone jailbroken after your upgrade via sn0wbreeze custom firmware? Or did you upgrade via sn0wbreeze and then jailbreak via redsn0w?

I am asking this because there are many ways and methods to jailbreak especially if custom firmware is involved.

In sn0wbreeze 2.9, the following modes are present:
1. iFaith Mode: This mode lets you create custom firmware using SHSH blobs saved by iFaith or TinyUmbrella
2. Simple Mode: This mode jailbreaks and installs Cydia and other recommended stuff automatically. This mode is for users who just want to jailbreak their iDevice
3. Expert Mode: Besides installing Cydia, this mode gives more advanced options like custom boot logos, root partition size, etc. Expert mode also gives the option to “hacktivate”
4. Baseband Preservation Mode: This mode just preserves the baseband. It doesn’t install or jailbreak the iOS

There should be A Music App in your iPhone dock .....

If that is the case then you should not have installed corona because sn0wbreeze 2.9.1 should have installed the corona exploit for you.

My suggestion is for you to rerun sn0wbreeze again.

If it is a locked set, you may not have a choice as you may need to Hacktivate.

Run absinthe again on top of te first absinthe jailbreak.

Restore your iPhone and then restore your backup. Once you have your camera roll back, backup your photos manually (this is a redundancy option) to your computer (via windows explorer should be okay). Restore your iPhone again, set as new phone (do not restore your backup yet) Jailbreak via absinthe and then restore your backup.

Sounds like a tweak you recently installed has corrupted mobile substrate. Try and see if you can restore the iPhone.

Follow the Guide in the first post of this thread.

1. Download the IPSW for 5.0.1 directly from Apple (links in the first post)
2. Backup your iPhone (try and remember the approximate time you backup)
3. Do a Shift + Restore which will wipe clean your iPhone including any jailbreak files Cydia apps etc etc
4. Once it has been restored, set it as a new phone (do not restore your iPhone yet)
5. Jailbreak using redsn0w 0.9.10.b5 (links in the first page)
6. Restore your iPhone with the last backup you made

Mine works fine.

Below is the snapshots. Though when it repsrings the respring icons seems corrupted.

When I set the carrier name, if I exit SBsettings it will automatocally respring (as there have been changes made that requires respringing) instead of the normal multi-colored circles or the dash circle, it was a square (like a QR code). It's no bother but just an observation.

I removed the carrier name (I'm not into that anyway) and when it re-springs, it was fine ... so probably some glitch.

Why pay for springtomize (I think it's a paid Cydia tweak right?) when a free tweak like SBSettings does the same thing?

Restore my iPhone yesterday as I was unable to make any calls/sms etc. After the restore, still cannot make any calls, restored my backup, still cannot make any calls. Went to the telco, apparently I went over the limit, seems like for the last 4 days I have used up all my data limit and went 500MB above (sh!t) so had to pay the extra 1000 due to that. It seems the bloody Sims Freeplay which keeps on downloading the update and failing and keeps on downloading and failing has used the cellular data (probably due to the 3G unrestrictor that I bought .... eff me .... that was an expensive bug from the bloody game (my kids love to play it) ... damn expensive one ... deleted the stupid game.

So this month I have no data ....

So since my phone is working, need to jailbreak it again. Thought of doing it without a fresh restore and run Absinthe .... took 40 minutes and it was still doing some sort of sync so cancelled that. Did a fresh restore and ran Absinthe again, took less than 2 minutes this time with an empty 4s.

Restore my backup ... everything was good (took 30 minutes with all the apps I had), deleted the stupid game again ...

Ran Cydia, BigBoss repo was down ... so had to wait until the morning before BigBoss is up and running again. Installed AptBackup and restored my Cydia apps .... tok 2 minutes and the phone rebooted. All my tweaks are there (yes success ... never tried this before so quite happy with the results).

Then I noticed that all my appstore apps are gone ..... What the Cuss .... so looks like this afternoon I have to do a fresh restore and do this all overe again ...

Note to self: need to delete that stupid game again ... damn.

I still have the game on my iPad 2 so they can play using the iPad 2. The problem I think was the combination of 3G Unrestrictor and the bug with the Freeplay update. I selected the game to be updated at home via wifi and it downloaded half and fails (it says that it cannot be updated ...) There's hundreds of comments in the iTunes store about this problem with Freeplay but in my case because I had switched on 3G Unrestrictor, when I went outside the Wifi coverage, the game continues to download the update via cellular and this was the reason why my 1GB data limit was breached. Thankfully it was only 500MB for 2 riyal per MB so that's where the 1K of extra charges comes from ...

Things like this happens .... lesson learned, I'll make sure to choose the settings mentioned by andrew.

No worries rathian. No need to uninstall, just make sure if there is an update you read the reviews first. The latest update is buggy as hell and this is the one that got me in trouble.

We learn from our mistakes

1. Backup your iPhone on 4.3.3
2. Download the 5.0.1 firmware from iClarified (links in post #1)
3. Do a shift + restore -- no need to put it on DFU mode. How do I do Shift + Restore?
- Open up iTunes
- Connect your iPhone
- Press the Shift Key and without releasing it press the Restore button in iTunes

4. Wait for the iPhone to restore
5. Once the restore is successful, run redsn0w 0.9.10b5 -- Guide to jailbreaking via redsn0w can be found in Post #1

Once jailbreak is successful, restore your backup

Once backup has been restored, redownload all your Cydia tweaks.

Added on February 8, 2012, 6:17 pmYeah, I've restored my iPhone (again) this afternoon and re-run the jailbreak (again) and redoanloaded all my Cydia tweaks manually. Everything is peachy and I've set the Celular Data download in Store settings to OFF and also remove Appstore from 3G Unrestrictor. Now have to wait for 1st March before I can use data again ..... not a good month this February ....
