I have alot of Movie & TV Show in my iMac. Most of it is in avi and mkv format which I play with VLC in iMac.

If I have all the video file in the iTunes, can I play it (stream it) with my ATV2? I worry on the codex.

Apple tv can play.mkv and h.264 format up to 720p, .avi 720p file will result in stuttering as the A4 chip in the apple tv can't handle it.

I got my apple tv from the west 54th st. apple store in new York. After conversion it's about RM340 or so. Anyone needs help jail breaking and installing all the addons, give me a holler if ur in the klang valley. I'll do it for you for the cost of a Teh Tarik! It's just my passion to help people enjoy good entertainment. Or we could organize an apple tv TT or something.

There are quite a number of guides out there, search for 'firecore seas0npass' on google and you'll get what you wanted

To JB, make sure you've the AppleTV connected via micro-USB and it shouldn't be connected to A/C power. The rest of the guide can be found in firecore's website.

There is easier method to install XBMC but you need to pay for it.. to install XBMC through ssh, here is the guide:

hi im noob here...smarttv and appletv are similar things ? if we cannot access netflix and hulu means both smarttv and appletv are meaningless ?

No idea what smarttv is, but with appletv, you can install xbmc .. and as aceedburn, you can do a lot of thing with it .. I couldn't play much with mine since my son's have the sole ownership of the appletv + tv .. can't watch astro too .. need to get another tv

Where did you purchase it from? I think I wanna get one too.

Just wondering if the topic starter is still active, probably we could do a first page FAQ and guides on how to install xbmc, navi-x, or on how to subscribe to the streaming services.

Jailbreaking is no longer considered as piracy, there are one thread each in iphone, ipad and ipod sub-forums. I believe admins are okay with this. There is no piracy discussion anyway on AppleTV since no commercial applications are allowed on it.
