I'm using 4mb and have not much problem streaming. But if you need to stream HD, then you need a smooth 8mb speed. With our current streamyx quality, not all area will able to stream HD quality.
If you are using 1mb, i will recommend you to upgrade your internet first. Even with the normal 2D, it will take some time to stream.
can you watch 1080p quality?
*
Not sure bro..coz people said it might stated there full or ultra hd, but you r actually watching a lower quality. But so far it is smooth n the vid quality is excellent too.

I'm projecting movies from moviebox, which is running so great until now.
XBMC will not run solely on the TV but mirror works.
any apps I can download and subscribe?i have local apple account and US account.

Hey everyone, if I were to get an Apple TV, what can I actually watch on it? I don't want to just plug it for watching YouTube videos or playing the songs in my iPhone...

My wife's childhood friend lives in Sydney together with her fiancé and they are subscribers of Netflix. Her fiancé showed me the Apple TV and there was a good variety of programs they can watch, including the NBA (he's a big basketball fan, btw), NFL, Major League Baseball, and Major League Soccer, as well as movies, music videos, and news.

Can we actually get Netflix or Hulu here, just to ask? I remember some people mentioning that these services are indeed available, once the Apple TV has been tweaked to receive them in Malaysia... smile.gif

yes.. if u have been following this thread, i have posted few times on my experience using apple tv 2.

here's how i use..

1. English drama / children's movie - Netflix
2. Hong Kong drama - Airplay from iPad Mini
3. Latest movies / tv dramas - XBMC (need a jailbroken Apple TV)

In order to subscribe netflix / hulu plus / other paid tv from USA, you need to use a VPN. Some people using DNS but from my experience before using VPN, DNS seems to slower the internet speed and not as stable as using VPN. So i decided to pay. It has been 2 years plus since i use VPN service and it never fails me.

If you are interested, u can try this. UnblockUs VPN Service. You can get a FREE Trial to test the service as well as applying for FREE Trial for Netflix and Hulu Plus. After that, you can decide if you wanted to continue or not. For 4.99 canada dollar, i think it's worth it. I cancelled my astro since i use Apple TV.

Very detailed reply you have provided, mate, and thank you very much! rclxms.gif

So which means that if I were to go for this UnblockUS VPN Service, it comes with a Netflix and Hulu Plus subscription, am I correct? If that's the case, then this service costing only $4.99/month should be of FAR greater value compared with the super-expensive Astro (although this means that we'll have to sacrifice the Chinese programs on Wah Lai Toi, CCTV4, and AOD)! biggrin.gif

no.. u still have to pay for netflix monthly subscription of 7.99USD per month. but considering 4.99 + 7.99, it still cheaper than going for astro. WLT normally old dramas right? why not use airplay for latest drama? if u take AOD for astro there are extra charges too...

Yes, only if you set to USA region. There are more channels in ATV. The best way to know what are the channels available in ATV is to search for Apple TV key word in YouTube.

Dear All,

Decided to share with all ...

Write up in our company blog, Guide on How to Maximise the Use of Apple TV 3

Did not put up some sensitive data like comparing the pricing of using ATV vs Astro as I scared Astro will send a lawyer letter to us.. haha..
anyway, i believe most of you knows how much you are paying to Astro on monthly basis.

Here's a summary on how my setup and savings.

1. Unblock-US VPN Subscription - 4.99CAD (RM14.80)
2. Netflix Subscription - 7.99USD (RM26.40)
3. Airplay from iPad Mini on Hong Kong Drama, Korean Drama, Latest Chinese Movies - FREE
4. XBMC for other movies not available in netflix, particularly english movies/dramas - FREE (required jailbreak of apple TV, but limited to ATV 2 and below)

Total paid per month: RM41.20
What I missed for not using Astro: No Hokkien channels, tamil channels, malay channels, and Local movies like Ah Beng, Astro pageant show, other live coverage of Astro Events. But it's ok since I'm not a couch potato, last time i subscribe to all of these but still missed all since i dont really have much time to watch according to the timing. There are repeats, but also not ngam timing.. haha...

But what did i save: At least RM100 a month based on astro latest subscription fees.

When u mention free hong kong drama and latest chinese movies all these come from netflix subscription also?
I have xbmc on my ipad. The plugins and channel list are messed up and not user friendly.
only mirror to ATV3 will work, movie box can extend to ATV3.
I definitely support and go for your suggestion which at least save me rm60 every month!!!!
