i dun think the speed was achieve with a usb modem, esp UMG1831  cause usb modem wont return a ping of 5ms,

if you wan ppl to believe you , you have to put up some screen shots together with the dialer, i believe that speedtest was achieve with a Maxis Fibre to Home connection, no hard feelings okay, as i wan users here to knoe the real info icon_idea.gif

btw, abt UMG1831, i have one and i recommend users who wan this low cost modem (RM199,  because its outdated compared to E353) to buy it from a recommended seller like _____( u can PM me if u wan to buy). I bought one from him, that modem is a "virgin" set , meaning when i took delivery of it, it was still wrapped in its plastic wrapper inside the box. Before this, i bought one UMG1831 from another seller , damn it,  the connection just get disconnected cause the seller flashed the modem into a FW which is not its ori FW and hence it sucks big time. Then i tested 3 of his UMG and all 3 too sucks.

and MYstombox UMG1831 was a tempered UMG1831, hence it sucks too.

infact a seller in LYN also sell this UMG at a very cheap price but he state very clearly this modem only have a one month warranty,  icon_idea.gif

if you guys check back my postings in the Maxis thread, i have posted very good speedtest result that i have screenshot together with the dailer on the UMG

agreed.. the download is possible but the upload speed and ping just to good to be true.
*
yeah, seems impossible to me also, that's why i'm shocked. but that is a true story.

maybe one chance in million can get that result.

i'll try to test at same spot next time, but not sure when, on holiday now at pekan.

That what I got in 1st 3 months I use celcom. I forgot using external USB modem or built-in 3G card in my notebook.

After 3 months, speed back to normal.

It's just a sudden burst, so nothing to be surprised about.

We do get that once a while. biggrin.gif

even at the early stage of testing U Mobile using UMG1831 at Pekan, my IDM indicated 2.++Mbps for a single download. now it's hard to get like that. but i'm still waiting for Maxis to upgrade their services here.

I bought my first USB modem, a ZTE MF622 for rm500. This was a Umobile bundled modem with Postpaid Broadband Plan but somehow those Distributors managed to sell it out for rm500 each as UM will bill its customers rm1200 if they decide to terminate the subscription (tied to a 1 year contract). There is another USB modem, Huawei E220, selling rm1200, contractless at that time.

Later i managed to source those modems (ZTE MF622) and opened a thread selling them to users here for rm500 too.

I bought my ZTE MF622 from digilife too. laugh.gif Time flies and I'm still keeping the modem as backup, let it rest while my Huawei E1762 takes over the heavy role. I just need a HSPA modem these days.

Previously had an Option iCON 505 as well but sold it off as it doesn't differ much compared to my Huawei E1762 except for a slight better ping. That doesn't matter to me a lot actually.

ZTE MF622 emits heat better than E1762, anytime. It is still a good modem but just that I need a modem that has higher upload speed. Fortunately, managed to pick up a nice used unit of E1762 at a bargained price. Looks good for now. biggrin.gif

I have the following modems:

Huawei E173
Huawei E1762
DLink DWM151
ZTE MF190

Personally, I think the ZTE MF190 performs the best. With Huawei you get that ocassional, annoying brief period where there is no data streaming (LED turns to blue). My MF190 manages to keep the connection stable and continuous. I notice Celcom BB seems to perform better wuth that ZTE too...

before using the Huawei UMG1831, i'm using Sierra Wireless 885 and Sierra Wireless 306.

i love to use sierra modems but after about two years, the 885 seems to be damaged, maybe its board have burnt inside. and the 306 have been sold to my friend.

-----

anyone using Huawei E353? Which is better, UMG1831 or E353?

Anyone know how is the maker of the radio chip of the USB modem?
Huawei sendiri make radio chip, ZTE, Option Icon, Sierra also same? or OEM by someone eg: qualcomm or other?
