Is it really okay stuffing so much of foam? Does the sub has an external heatsink to dissipate the heat generated by the amplifier?

In my S2000, Edifier stuffs the foam inside, just infront of the port to tighten the bass. Stuffing so much just restrict the air movement and reduce (or in other words tighten up) the bass.

The sub do come with an external heatsink bro.

and that's why in my other thread I actually warned people to allow more air flow in your subwoofer. To dissipate heat.

I know that the S530D won't burn or melt my filter since it stays cool no matter how I blast it but it's better to be safe than sorry anyways. icon_rolleyes.gif

Here are more details about the build quality of the satellites of S530D

user posted image

Yes the cover is removable like how many users like it

user posted image

You unscrew them with an allen key or some hex tip screwdriver.

user posted image

It goes bare

user posted image

Have to comment a little about their screws. Though it feels strong and sturdy, I don't like how it goes rusty in just one year untouched. By moisture this actually gets rusty.
PM-ed Edifier and they had worked on the quality of it

user posted image

Same goes to the Philips screws at the back

Woofer disassembled

user posted image

Note: This fishtank filter was already inside since the first day I got them. It is pre-installed on every satellites so you don't have to fill it yourselves. wink.gif

Sorry because I can't get any pictures of the back of the tweeter. It was glued shut tightly without any better methods for me to disassemble it.

Oh well, enjoy the pics

Other comments would be the low volume output of Headphone Jack.
Man... the volume is pretty low that one have to turn the volume to ridiculous levels to get average sounding volume.

My easily driven headphone Alessandro MS-1i requires full blast Boost +6 to get into normal listening volume

This has got to be fixed

The S730 require a sound card or another amp to produce more bass. As for me I'm using the SupremeFX X-Fi sound card. One thing i like the S730 is you can turn the volume to maximum (boost 6+) without a distortion!

Good source is always important.

It's good that you know good source are a must.

but if you say

another amp for speakers, then it's a HUGE NO because you might burn your S530D/S730D amplifier by double amping

swap speaker drivers? make sure the specifications and dimensions are correct tho smile.gif

like for example the Ω of the speaker must be equal or higher, that should do.

then tell us the results if there is an improvement or it just turns crappy XD

The amp won't burn itself from that overload that easily XD

for subwoofer i would recommend you to get a sub with same impedance. or consult the amplifier spec sheet.

Just some other extra details about the subwoofer...

If you are searching for hard hitting bass that does smacking on your chest for every beat~

The S530D fails to do so as it is quite gentle and not very aggressive punching type...

yea, kinda like a rephrase on my sentence about this subwoofer being slow

Have been using the S530D as my living room speakers for a month now. As what power911 has mentioned, this set of speakers are pretty particular on the source and equipment that is paired to it.

Before moving it to the living room, it was connected to my workstation PC directly using an XFi Titanium PCIE sound card. It sounded quite harsh IMHO even after burning in for 6 months, and I could not tweak it to my liking no matter how even by using the software's bass boost, crystaliser or EQ (maybe I am very bad at making adjustments sweat.gif )

Then I decided to try it out at the living room out of tantrum and frustration. To my surprise, it was pure ecstasy, night and day difference compared to Logitech's Z2300 that was hooked up to the same equipments. (Equipments: DVD Player, HTPC with SB Audigy -> Sony old school EQ -> Marantz amp's pre out). Music and movies sounded much clearer and natural by miles. Bass was pretty accurate, bouncy yet not boomy. Did a blind test with an audience that spends tens of thousands of ringgit on his audio equipments and he ended up extremely amazed on what this little 2.1 baby can do for it's size! The S530D's separation of tweeter and mid bass on the front speakers is clearly superior than any single full range 2" speakers that are equipped on most of the 2.1 speakers nowadays for example; Logitech's Z2300, Z623, Creative's T3, HK Soundstick III, etc.

To cut the long story short, the old Z2300 ended up as my workstation speakers and my living room is literally 'upgraded' to a higher, better, superb quality of the S530D. Thumbs up and kudos to S530D, you deserve the praise! thumbup.gif

done that, somehow just feels dull. i think it's the creative soundcard's signature issue, that's why most people prefers asus soundcards for music? wink.gif

Found some of these acoustic dampeners in my junk speaker, thought of making good use of these

user posted image
lay them down correctly so I can roll it up

user posted image
looks messy but it's okay

user posted image
stuff them in and it fits snugly

While doing this does improve the bass response and tightens everything up, I am risking my subwoofer to death by a few minor factors like:
-Causing the woofer driver to struggle because it can't move as freely as it should be.
-May overheat the amp as there is less airflow
-May cause the voicecoil to unwind itself because it can't move freely (the voicecoil might try to break free by escaping from the glue and start rattling by itself)

Anyways, I have not fully tested it yet but I can say the bass volume has reduced and sounds much faster without sounding muddy due to midbass

Port noise has been incredibly reduced as well

my objective:
If I can't get it to sound deep like the logitechs, I try to get them to work together like a family

seriously, this subwoofer doesn't want to cooperate with the satellites...

conclusion... don't do this mod lol

that could mainly the crossover issue and/or lack of proper/good mid bass which you cant really do much about it. of course, it could be different than my case since i am using a C3 and not S530D

Also, given my experience in subwoofer/audio/car speakers, stuffing your port not only steers you away further from your intended objectives, it will also almost definitely cause the problems you have mentioned yourself. so my personal advise is to remove the stuffing smile.gif

=edit=
bolding the bottom important part too

if paired with original satellite, i will say subwoofer still ok for its job, imo actually is satellite pull down the overall performance, in term of mid bass/ soundstage/ treble, its subwoofer actually can be shake but require very loud to do so, and yet not enough deep, but problem arise with this situation, based on my case, around volume 32~34 is its maximum volume that satellite still under control, beyond this threshold, it start lost its dynamic, treble became harsh(too bright) and minor distort to my ear, but bass around 27~28 just start show its present until 4x still remain controllable, but still cant do well with fast bass type song (muddy), since its signature ~ tend to slow and not deep (probably just 50~55hz), i think initial design of it is try to maintain balance between gaming/movie and music to be all-rounder, but obviously cause it not an impressive product among its class (especially since sp2500 available, based on its comment in forum, but can sense it is a strong competitor, at least bass department performance better and deeper)
