1. Preferred Brand - i don't really mind the brand but i heard that asus and toshiba is the better brand and acer have to be avoided at all cost. is it true?
2. Budget - below 2k
3. Usage - online, assignments, probably mild gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 14

i am very much an IT noob. does the brand makes any difference or is it due to the after sales service?

And beside that. What's the difference between i3 and i5?

For example i5-2450M vs i3-2350M.

Both has 2 cores. Speed wise the same 2.3 ghz/2.2 ghz.

Anyone?

i5 supports Intel TurboBoost, that's about it nod.gif

Inspiron 14/15; R series and Z series are different lineup of laptops...
The Inspiron 14/15 are mainly budget laptops with minimal specifications.
The R series are basically more geared towards performance (although lately the performance difference is not that significant anymore, perhaps its only for these season)
The Z series is geared towards portability and long battery life

Since the GT630M is basically a GT540M, so if you're comparing between these two models, might as well just go for the new one..
HDD speed is the same for both laptops

And I dislike Dell, cz i heard asus and toshiba is better. = = and i dunno why other ppl dislike dell and other brand. = =

Dell Vostros come with matte screen, and the color will not be as vibrant as you see in laptops with glossy screens...
I'm no pro in Adobe stuffs, but based on what I've read, RAM and CPU is more important..
As for 7,200rpm laptops, perhaps only this, but its running on AMD (heard that Nvidia works better):
14"
Asus A43Sa-VX083v, i5-2430M + AMD HD6730M@RM2499, 750GB (7200rpm)

Perhaps it'll be better if you upgrade the HDD yourself since most laptop (especially budget ones) come with 5400rpm HDD

I think closest would be this one, but you'll have to look real hard for it..
15.6"
Asus N55Sf-S1515v [black], i5-2450M + Nvidia GT555m (2GB) + 1920x1080@2899[Bang & Olufsen]; 750GB (7200rpm), USB3.0, Sonic Master subwoofer *EOL-ed

Other laptops with good screens + fast HDD are more than RM3k unfortunately sad.gif
