Serious question:

Anyone tried XM drums before? Was seriously considering due to the aesthetics but the sound was less than pleasing. Also when trying to play alternate accented rimshots (which i tend to use a lot), the drum module registered it consistently wrong. This was a huge red flag for me.

I own one set, good for practice.
If you're looking to get more than that (I.E. customization, recording, improve drumming feel etc) you're better off looking into other brands...

Hi. Sorry, not sure where to ask this but thought you guys might be the best.
I have an avid drummer who is now into beat boxing. He wants to get a mike and amplifier for this. Is there any particular mike and amplifier that is more suitable for beat boxers or will any type do?
Where is a good place to shop for this equipment?

This thing. I believe it's called a rattle? Where can I find one? Sorry if i'm intruding the wrong thread but i thought this would be most relevant to the drummer's thread.

Which do you think is better, acoustic or electronic drum set?

I played a little bit of acoustic many years ago. Also tried e drum, find it so different. But I like the endless music adjustments on the e drum.

Appreciate your advice and why. Thanks.

You will miss out learning the art of drum tuning with e-drums, also it maybe more difficult to rimshot and choke cymbals.

Thanks.

Sounds like you are an acoustic drummer. Which mid range model would you recommend?

Didnt know about this till today. Appreciate feedback from users.

I assume that there will be 2 sounds, acoustic drum and electronic sound on headphones. Right?

Answer to my problem in not knowing which one to get, acoustic or edrum.

Personally I'm an advocate for buying Used drums and then changing the drum heads. Then the money you saved can get better cymbals which are a world of difference from the low end brass cymbals to the better bronze cymbals.

This is interesting. Can't say anything yet as need more time to digest and research what is being presented in the video.

Typically a electronic drum you will hear the drum sample sound from the headphone or speaker out. If it isn't switched on then the sound will be like hitting a practice pad or like hitting cardboard/pillow.

Thanks.

From your experience in drums, which mid-level acoustic drums would you recommend?

Like to have your view on Zildjian and Istanbul cymbals. Which ones are best to avoid and to try?

Thanks.

Honestly can't go wrong with Major brands like TAMA, Pearl, Yamaha.

Can't go wrong with A or K Series for Zildjian, Sabian equivalent would be HH and AA series. Avoid planet Z from Zildjian as it is brass. Best if you go to a shop physically to try out and you will know the difference in sound quality.
If you think it is too expensive then get the best cymbals you can afford for Hihats and Ride as this 2 will be used the most in drumming.

Not too familiar with Istanbul but I heard they make good cymbals too.

***  Yes, have these 3 brands in mind. But they have so many models. Now thinking of Yamaha Stage Custom 5 pieces. Do they have only 1 Stage Custom model in different colors or Stage Custom models with some differences (wood, design, etc)? Hope only 1 Stage Custom to make my selection easier.

***  Noted and thanks. Avoid brass cymbals regardless of the brand? A series prices are scary!

Saw a video on fitting a new drum head. Like to know if it is safe to do what he did, pressing the center to sit the head evenly on the rim before tightening the vaults?

Quite scary to hear the cracking sound.

Thanks.
