Is golden algae eater the same as otto?

I bought 2 cherry shrimp and placed them in my tank, they are currently living in my 28 to 29 celcius 1ft tank.. They seem fine, though I don't know what to feed them other than guppy food for the time being..
*
No..golden algae eater is different from otto. Check out this link.

I am feeding my shrimps Hikari algae wafer & crab cuisine pellet. I think the food has to be the sinking type as I have not seen my cherry shrimps "flying" to the water surface to eat. Ghost shrimps on the other hand will do that.

Some of them float, some of them sink.. But I will use a spoon to make it all sink to the bottom. How do you differentiate from a sad shrimp and a happy shrimp? Any guidelines for a beginner?

I am also a newbie in this, and I am sure the shrimps sifus will correct me if I am wrong. To me, happy shrimps are active shrimps that are constantly moving around the tank looking for food. Sad shrimp will be the ones hiding all the time.

They are still hiding, but played with my marimos and moss a little though, I only introduced them to the tank yesterday. Hopefully they will look more cheerful tonight biggrin.gif How many shrimps should I put in my 1ft tank though.. I am thinking of mixing a community of fish and shrimp and tiny lobster (2cm)..

Mine is a 1.5ft tank, houses 20+ cherry shrimps and 4 otos. Otos are very effective in cleaning those algae from the tank's glass.

If you want to put fish, put those small and non-aggressive ones. Mini lobster (or crayfish) is definitely a bad idea based on my experience. Cichlids such as angel fish also is a bad idea. I have another 2ft tank with ghost shrimps (those feeder shrimps), some small tetras, angel fish & crayfish (mini lobster). The angel fish & the crayfish are constantly snacking on those shrimps.

Dwarf Orange Mexican Lobster (BlueGrassAquatics is selling it), is only 2cm+, similar of the size of shrimp, maybe bigger by a few milimeters.. They are considered crayfish? For fish, I'm thinking of populating with guppies. But if too many guppies I worry they will start looking for a feast on the shrimps..

if you insist on putting shrimps in community tank with mini crayfish and guppies , make sure you provide lot hiding space for them.

There are no hiding space for the shrimps.. The scaping is very open, I think mixing is a bad idea then.. Maybe it's a bad idea to put in fishes..

Is there any links on how to breed shrimps in this thread?

Is your mini lobster similar to this?

If yes, then it will grow bigger. Mine is around 2inch in length now. They are shrimp snackers. tongue.gif

Your one is mexico mini lobster ? look like normal red lobster sold in LFS, from what i understand the real mini mexico crayfish or CPO will
stay mini and won't grow that large.

I haven't bought it, but from the pictures, they look really tiny. I am planning to put shrimps only instead of mixing with other faunas.

If I buy 10 shrimps and chuck them all in one tank, what is the likely hood of getting baby shrimps?

those RM39.90 crayfish come in a mini square plastic tank in, right? i also brought one, they label it mini platinum white, but
we been cheated, those are not mini lobster, they grow big, and outside only sell for rm15 each. That was my noob time.

When the shrimps have s*x, they did it very fast(in spite of secs) and only when after the female molt, you sure you see them do it? laugh.gif

no, leave it there, they need 30 days for the baby to hatch.
