What is the pro and cons between these three gyms? What make you think FF is the best?

Kind of boring in office here. ohmy.gif
*
1. The design and familiarity. I'm more used to FF. Whichever FF club I go, the design, layout and feel doesn't run too far off. Maybe I have adapted to their taste hahahaha
2. Locker. Don't even get me started. Need to bring own padlock for GF and TF and a lot of cases of pilferage. Locker aso very sempit.
3. Shower. it's only curtain for TF. GF has a door but uses sticker and you can see silhouette. Don't laike.
4. Drinks/ juice bar. Need I say more?
5. Lounge - TF one is nicer but there's no seat outside the GX. You need to go downstairs (for Hartamas branch) to sit at the lounge.
6. TF & GF's workout area is a little bit dark. I prefer it to be brighter.
7. GX wise - FF still da best.
8. TF and GF doesn't have much branches. FF has 13, with 14th coming soon.

Okay someone sent me a copy of the letter laugh.gif

Oh my, I just checked and I am paying RM177 (latest) for a home membership.

Blue Membership is now RM189 and Platinum is RM200+
*
Rate for member?

The whole price increase thing is very confusing. Some experience RM7 hike while others RM10. I'm not sure anymore.

Who are the instructors for BC in Score Fit ?

You mean representing FF?
Jayson & Cheng

Others like Berry, Anna and Choong are freelancers who teaches in FF and GF

From TF there's Jon, Eddie & Alex. From Chi Fitness it's Loh (ex-FF instructor)

Take it as an expensive lunch lesson.
*
You should :3 walk up to the front desk and check with them~ it's still money haha. Btw there's one way to get free membership. Be an instructor hahaha. Teach at least 3 classes a week and you're entitled for free membership laugh.gif

QUOTE(RedPillReality @ Apr 4 2014, 03:24 PM)
RM7 before tax, RM10 after tax maybe.

It's confusing because all these commercial gyms have to be so secretive about their rates, some people pay slightly lower, some higher.

If they publish official prices there won't be any confusion, but of course they will never do that.
*
Hmmmm not possible, the tax is only like, RM0.40 to RM0.50.
Hard to publish rates, they're quite competent (i mean among gyms). Compared to the others, FF's rate is considered quite standard; "standard" here meaning if they charge you RM165 for home membership, everyone (other members) pays about the same rate.

QUOTE(yeeck @ Apr 4 2014, 03:42 PM)
Same here.....my bill is the same as last year....the familiar figure of 1xx.xx
*
Yes. All I know is that cheaper rate can only be obtained when/ for:
- Corporate member
- Students
- Sign up during promo

Any other time it's the same rate applicable for all.

PT got several different level. I think lilred is more familiar with this, I don't mix around with the PTs although there are few instructors who became hybrid: PT + teaching class.

Unfortunately everyone will be affected with price hike. Look on the good side, it's RM7, costs less than a cuppa at Starbucks biggrin.gif

Yes I think it's appx RM170+ for either per club or passport. Definitely RM2xx for Platinum.

QUOTE(clamp_wl @ Apr 14 2014, 01:33 AM)
so is fitness first the best option among the gym operators in malaysia?
*
It depends on what you're looking for. I've been to True Fitness and Gorgeous. Facilities and service is a little different. Members culture are also tadbit different than what you see at FF. Anyhow I still prefer FF because based on my experience, they are more service oriented with better facilities. For one, I don't really fancy the idea of having to bring my own padlock to use the locker.

Good to hear that you have voiced out these concerns to the management. Hopefully they'll work on the improvements.

Anyway KBT's space is very limited thus there's no RPM and yes, freestyle area aren't big enough. It's sad but with Plat membership, members can also go to the nearest branch to enjoy RPM. If a lot of members ask for RPM, maybe the request will be granted by the top management?

You might want to go for 1-week trial in other clubs before terminating your membership. I have heard a lot of GF members wanting to go back to FF (these are ex-FF members) if they are able to get the same rate they used to sign up for. Unfortunately rules are rules.

QUOTE(KOHTT @ Apr 16 2014, 11:14 PM)

If your main concern is budget, then by all means goes for other gyms. I know celebrity fitness and true fitness are much cheaper but they don't have branch in bukit tinggi....but each have their own cons...there is Chinese saying, paid one cent more & you get one cent extra value.

In between, gym is not the only way for exercise. the better and cheaper way is in fact do exercise on your own at your home, garden, badminton court, public swimming pool etc. but you need more discipline. You will work out more healthy fresh air environment rather than inside the air-con compartment.
*
Agree. If the RM7 per month causes much strain to the monthly or year financial of the individual, other alternatives might prove to be good.

If a person unwillingly pays for a service he or she deem is overpriced or not worthy, it's no longer a happy workout (I always think that workouts should be something joyful and happy). All the dissatisfaction will accumulate and it's bad sad.gif

QUOTE(attw @ Apr 17 2014, 08:21 AM)
Ya, my options in Klang/Shah Alam area is now limited to Gorgeous Fitness at Bukit Tinggi Klang and Celebrity Fitness at AEON Big Bukit Rimau. Visited one already and need to visit the other one to make comparison.

Fully agree that outdoor exercise is much better but I lack the discipline. When you see your credit card statement monthly with an auto debit for gym membership, you kinda feel the pinch and motivate yourself to make full use of what you are paying for. It's not really the right kind of motivation, but it works for me smile.gif
*
Maybe CF in Bukit Rimau would be better, have yet to go there... but GF is a little... I can't get used to the place.

QUOTE(attw @ Apr 17 2014, 08:50 PM)
To be honest RM7 per month is not that much of an increase, but it is more of the reasons they gave for the increase when I feel my home club hasn't been given the necessary upgrades even though it is a Platinum club. Although I am a passport holder, I recently switched jobs to be nearer to home so I only go to FF Klang Bkt Tinggi these days...

That said I concur with you that you get what you pay for and you pay for what you're comfortable with smile.gif

Yup, I also think the layout of GF takrs a bit of getting used to and I'm sure I won't enjoy their GX classes as much as I do the ones at FF based on various feedback I received, haha...

I checked with some newer FF members and some didn't receive emails on the revision. Am wondering if FF just targeting some of us older members that joined last time when fees was cheaper...
*
laugh.gif well... everything requires getting used to. Me too, I didn't receive the email or letter on the price hike. But oh well, come what may. When you're in FF next time, go watch the video presentation (on the increase) they put on the TV near juice bar/ lounge. It was interesting to watch.

To be fair, they did mention that old members will still pay lower fees in comparison to new members. So there you have it. It's inflation. The operational cost of business had increased. One of the member said that she understands the pressure to increase price due to the high expenses in running a business. End of the day, RM7 imo is still justifiable.

QUOTE(KOHTT @ Apr 18 2014, 12:00 AM)
If you do join celebrity fitness, do bargain for the "special prices"...different member has different prices for same category of membership.

Some members paid RM19X, RM17X, some paid RM15X...I also heard some paid less than RM15X. CF admin is less systematic compare to FF.
*
Wow CF also quite mahal leh. Fee is almost on par with FF. I thought they are more similar to TF price hmmm.

Can't say FF has no RPM studio. Only 1-2 clubs don't have the studio wink.gif

Other than comparison between GF and FF, couldn't comment on CF. Someday I'll give CF a try, just wanna crash their GX for fun.

Yes actually the only thing I like about GF is the rooftop TRX and jacuzzi. But it's pretty hot up there haha.

1. You don't have to work full time. They have part time too. Not for PTs, for GX. Quite a big number of the GX instructors are freelancers/ part timers.

2. Agree with you on this.

3. True la!

QUOTE(KOHTT @ Apr 20 2014, 11:01 PM)
Yeap. Group GX instructors' paid is one of the lowest. But some of them are really good and classes always pack.

I myself not sure why they don't move on to other club.
*
Look at it this way... among all the news broadcast, CNN is the lowest paying station. But still, every day there are hundreds to tens of thousands of application.

I suppose that's how it goes hahaha

QUOTE(KOHTT @ Apr 20 2014, 11:16 PM)
Bukit Rimau CF is still quite new and facilities should be quite okay.

The CF classes are different from FF since FF is more towards lesmill program.

CF classes is a combination of lesmill program + many rojak classes such as latin dance, energy aerobic, capoeira, mtv style etc. They have many different type of dance classes. Some instructors are from brazil, spain etc.
*
Yes FF is more clinched towards LesMills. They are one of the strongest when it comes to GX. In fact FF has 1 presenter for each of the program.

QUOTE(attw @ Apr 21 2014, 12:04 AM)
Ok la, not too bad, as long as they have BodyPump and RPM, enough for me, coz that's about the only 2 classes that I regularly attend.
They say because FF training and development for GX trainers particularly for lesmills is top notch, miles ahead of other clubs coz they put more emphasis on those programs.

If I do sign for CF then my dilemma is whether I should cancel FF or just freeze it in case one year later I have regrets, ha ha ha...
*
FF is quite strict in terms of quality of instructors. I heard it's not easy to clear the training because the head teachers are quite stringent.

When an instructor says he/ she is from FF, any other club(s) will take them in without question. Not sure how true since it's hear say, hear say biggrin.gif but if another club's instructor want to teach in FF, he/ she is also subject to clearance by the head teacher.

QUOTE(isildur88 @ Apr 21 2014, 12:16 AM)
Hi all,

Im planning to join FF ioi mall next month
im quite blur on the fees(dont want to be cheated in other words)
what do i have to pay? is there a joining fee. any other fees that i need to pay to join.
i have not talked to them yet my appointment with them is on this friday.
and what is bodystart or bodyfirst. whats the diff in price for those 2.
*
There's joining and admin fees I think. They can either waive or reduce fee for one of them.

As mentioned by @RedPillReality Body First is a beginner's PT session given to you based on complimentary basis. You will get 3 sessions. I'm sure you will be told that they will charge a fee on this BUT if you swipe in FF (come to the gym) at least 3 times a week for 3 months (i think), the amount that you paid for the Body First will be transferred, to auto deduct from your next month's bill. Meaning it will be complimentary. NOTE THAT: you need to remember to ask for the 'refund' at front desk. Need to fill in a form and will take around 30-60 days if I'm not mistaken.

They want to get people to try out their PT service and to attend the gym often. I think it's good because the PTs also teach you how to use the machines, treadmill, what you can do at Freestyle area etc. Whether you want to sign up or not after the sessions are over, it is up to you icon_rolleyes.gif

Before forummer start to said I am promoting FF...

No all the instructor in FF is good although they have passed the test. Some of them know the technique well but just don't know how to motivate the members in the class.

So it depends.
*
Hahahaha! Give newbies a chance, it takes time to take up the practice. Everyone gets better with more classes they teach. Those who can motivate well are usually instructors who have been around some time or those who have taken the advanced module. The advanced module stress more on coaching/motivational side.

But it happens. Sometimes really tak ramai because it's not peak hours, clash with festivals, the class is just not popular in that club etc. Many reasons.

No bro, I meant the FF I frequent, Klang Bukit Tinggi, no RPM studio sad.gif Years ago, some members and I petitioned for a RPM studio to the management but never got a reply from them. Now that I see the new malls like Setia Alam and Paradigm got that open area RPM studio concept, I keep thinking it's not fair for them to deny KBT Platinum members the option for RPM class when they can obviously do it for the newer Blue clubs.
*
I know, FF KBT is my home club laugh.gif

But looking at the club, space is really limited. I can't imagine how they can fit in an RPM section or studio.
