I found that changing the chipset cooler does not improve my overclock at all. With the HR-05, the chipset temp is in the low 40s while the temp with Vantec Iceberg that I used to replace the faulty stock cooler is in the low 60s.

Yes, true, Chipset has nothing to do in K8 overclocking, as the reference clock is generated from the processor itself (AMD call it PLL, but DFI BIOS state it has HTT frequency). I suggest u Scythe Ninja as CPU cooling, elhh selling 180 bucks free shipping. If u cant wait for bulk, arj oso got mah, see his siggie

ninja really give some good result.... but its causing a pain when u installing it...the hardest cpu cooler installed ever.... i m still waiting for the result of scythe mine...dunno if it can beat tt bt... and i dun think chipset cooling will improve any oc as well.... the cooling of the proc is more important than that at least

I've written down the steppings of dual core Opteron that can reach 3Ghz that I found at XS. Thinking of going to LYP tomorrow and look for them

Dunno whether they applies for single core as well or not

QUOTE(squall_12 @ May 17 2006, 08:35 PM) For starters, just play around with the HTT and don't touch anything else. Increse the HTT by 5 and then run some stress test. Run dual SP2004 for 5 minutes. If there's no errors, go back into the BIOS and increase the HTT summore then do the stress test again. Repeat this until errors pops up. At this point you have two choices; back off by about 50Mhz and that should be a pretty stable speed or you can start increasing the vcore. If you increase the vcore, repeat the above steps all over again.
