hi all,
i'm looking for a new gaming laptop and came across this thread. Did alil bit research and found the asus gseries fits my budget. From info at first page, anybody bought from illeGear? just need some dealing feedbacks on this entity since i've been to few computing outlets and they *unwilling* to bring in asus gseries lappies. ASUS G53SX - XR1 ASUS G74SX - BBK7 Factory these 2 models is in my list, hoping it can play SC2 and D3 (when release) in high setting...any comment from you guys? |

QUOTE(Ajita @ Dec 22 2011, 01:36 PM) may i know why? care to explain? Basically BBK7 variant has a GTX560M with a crippled 128-bit memory bandwidth using 2GB GDDR5 compared to the regular GTX560M with 192-bit bus with 3GB GDDR5 VRAM.i need opinions for consideration, thanks ya riku2replica: i guess not much discrepancies between these 2 models...right? So it's cheaper but your suffer a performance dip. |

ASUS G53SX - XR1 is using the same Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 Video Memory as well.
meaning the 2 model i mentioned will not perform well in gaming since both running the same type of gc unless i chg to GTX560M 192-bit bus 3gb gddr5 vram |

QUOTE(Ajita @ Dec 22 2011, 05:03 PM) ASUS G53SX - XR1 is using the same Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 Video Memory as well. if u game at high to ultra settings @full HD ,the 128bit 560m will not perform well because of the bottleneck in the memory bus.. and u cant change the gpu cuz its not yet possible (reverse mxm slot in the g53sx, soldered gpu for the g74sx)meaning the 2 model i mentioned will not perform well in gaming since both running the same type of gc unless i chg to GTX560M 192-bit bus 3gb gddr5 vram however, it does well at medium to high settings.. ive game tried crysis 1 n 2 , witcher 2 n metro 2033 , battlefield 3 at 1080p.. very playable at an avg of 30-40fps difference in the two models would be the size obviously, the g74sx is huge... performance between the two is virtually the same... the g53sx comes with full HD screen.. if im not mistaken the g74sx bbk comes with a reso of 1600x900.. when gaming, the g74sx is more silent at full load, some say u can barely hear the fans.. and the temps never go beyond 70C even with a massive overclock the g53sx at full load, u can hear a bit of a whine from the gpu fan.. but its not that loud and annoying.. gpu temps after overclock can go up to 82-83C .. depending on ur ambient temp.. ive never seen it go past 85C also, the keyboard of the g53sx has a bit of a flex if u type like a hard azz mofo... the g74sx keyboard is better... lastly, if u want to install some ram or SSD or HDD, its too easy for the g74sx.. just unscrew and pop the back panel.. but with the g53sx, its way more complicated... need to open ur keyboard, palmrest, then can open the back panel hope this helps This post has been edited by trustmeiamlegit: Dec 22 2011, 10:12 PM |

For Asus, the GPU is normally soldered in so it's better to just get the 3GB variant outright. Besides, cost of buying the GPU would be absurdly overpriced.

QUOTE(Ajita @ Dec 23 2011, 09:09 AM) it helps alot infact, thanks mate for the g74sx.. the gpu is soldered onto the mobo itself. therefor not possible to change itbut i have another inquiry, which is , I plan to change or upgrade the gc of 2 mentioned model from GTX 560M GPU 2GB GDDR5 Video Memory to GTX 560M GPU 3GB GDDR5 Video Memory. problem is whether the changes/upgrade is possible for the 2 mentioned model. please advise thank you for g53sx.. the gpu uses a reverse mxm slot, i think only asus uses reverse mxm.. while other manufacturers use normal mxm !! therefore, u cannot just get a normal mobile gpu and put it in the g53sx cuz its in reverse.. ur best bet would be to hope that asus releases the nex g53 model with the same chassis with reverse mxm slot and a more powerful gpu.. then only u can swap some epic facepalm decisions from asus right there.. reverse slot and crippled gpu... |
