QUOTE(G-17 @ Dec 21 2011, 11:40 PM) The ICS update from Samsung for the S2 (and other non-Nexus branded handsets) will most probably be a skinned version, not pure ICS, just like what Samsung and almost all the other manufacturers do with their interfaces. Note: When I say "skinned", I actually mean "bastardized". Currently, only Nexus branded phones give the "pure" Android environment (not including custom ROMs). the software button on the GNex won't appear on phone upgrading from Gingerbread... however they still won't get the ICS experience that is on the GNex. OEM skin being one major reason, another one that's pretty significant, the recent app list. Using S2 as an example, user might have to hold on to the home button to bring it up, like how it brings up the recent app list as it is now, and not like how GNex does with one button dedicated to the recent app list. Because at least that is how Nexus S implemented it. I'm not sure how OEM will implement this however, they could very well come up with a more creative way, but I am having my doubt for now. This would essentially kills one of the major upgrade of ICS... a much more accessible multitasking. Secondly, we're not quite sure how ICS will work on handsets like the S2, Galaxy-Note, Razr and others..... All these phones still have a physical Home button (Nexus does not, it's programmed into the screen already), so we're not sure how this will work out on ICS. Will there be 2 Home buttons, or will the touchscreen on these phones not show the Home button, or will the physical home button be used for some other function..... Slightly off-topic: I've been playing with a friend's Nokia N9 handset for much of today. Gotta say it's one hell of a sexy beast. The Meego interface is also very, very intuitive, far more sensible than iOS or Android (not including ICS cos I haven't tried that yet). It's also pure Linux, with full POSIX compliance and all that (unlike Android), which meant I could download stuff from Debian's repositories. Was also damn easy to root (in teh "Settings" option") ....Imagine running Vim with Latex plugins on a phone... heh!! It's a shame Nokia abandoned Meego and went for WinPhone7 instead (stupid CEO). I really feel Meego + Nokia would have given Google and Apple much needed competition if marketed right, plus would give us consumers another choice. Shame, really. =( I pretty much agree on the N9 |

QUOTE(irenic @ Dec 22 2011, 11:22 AM) nope. i noticed it when i was still in 4.0.2.. i downgrade to 4.0.1 and the video apps was there, but disappear right after i tried to open it. I didn't bother using the video app at all anyway.now updated to 'custom' 4.0.3 and still no video apps have you tried MX video player? it is fully compatible with ICS and GNex, the soft buttons do hide when playing videos, plus it has more features compare to the video app. |

QUOTE(djlah @ Dec 25 2011, 01:37 PM) great. try using the ics keyboard extensively, its pretty good. I'd say for those who prefer to type, it's the best keyboard so far.Hi everyone, what backup app you're using? TB seem like not working perfectly. and how about best keyboard in ICS? sad, my old swype not support for high resolution.... I've only 2 keyboard installed, Swype and the default keyboard...using the default as the main for a while now...the autocorrect is really amazing. |

QUOTE(llobak @ Dec 25 2011, 11:34 PM) I remember seeing an article saying that the reason that the ICS keyboard is so good is the result of Google acquisition of BlindType. Yea, I'd say there is definitely some BlindType technology in it, I mean it feels almost like it, however it is not fully implemented yet, more like 50% of BlindType's power. They didn't release the BlindType after buying it but that article state that they believe the added the "MAGIC" of BlindType into ICS keyboard. looking forward to what the next iteration of Android brings. |

QUOTE(ruffstuff @ Dec 27 2011, 07:29 AM) Lol, that's it? Honestly I thought it would be something more before I watched the video. The only issue I see in that video is just "slow rotation" issue, even then it is still, like the guy said its designed that way, maybe its not consistent enough but nevertheless its a minor one. There's already patch from xda for you to flash if what you want is a shorter rotation delay. The twitter app thing is really a non issue, at least not android's. Twitter is suppose to update its app to work with ics, not the other way around IMO. Even then, is it really an issue? I don't know what to say if you're truly disappointed by these "slow down proof" This post has been edited by phantomash: Dec 27 2011, 08:03 AM |

QUOTE(ruffstuff @ Dec 27 2011, 08:48 AM) No. the overall experience is not buttery smooth as iOS.  If it is twitter is not keeping up with ICS, why i see the same issue in Gingerbread phone? I'd agree if that's what you're saying, however that has nothing to do with the video link you've posted. Then again, I have to say with ICS, Android has come very close in terms of fluidity. iOS on the other hand still doesn't offer few of the key features that android does. Its not hard to f*** up when all you have is a 4x4 icon grid layout. It is a known issue that android scrolling is inferior than iOS.  That's it. The problem with the twitter app wasn't having stutter scrolling, but the icons seems to load only when you stop scrolling, did you even watched the video? And whatever issue you're seeing with the twitter app, OF COURSE you would see the same issue on GB if Twitter isn't updated for ICS. ICS is the latest version, not GB. You would see the same issue still because the app isn't updated? How do you want me to explain this in more simpler terms? And finally are you using the phone? Or are you just commenting based on the videos you saw? This post has been edited by phantomash: Dec 27 2011, 11:06 AM |

QUOTE(springfall @ Dec 28 2011, 09:40 PM) just hope that it izznt the same as the low volume that needs vol+ to fix. or else we might need a mic+ app. thx, gona skype more ofthen with gnex it'll be the same. To be honest the speaker volume sounded ok to me, but after trying the vol+ app only I notice what I've been missing. However even with the app I wasn't boosting it to the maximum, only about +4/+5. |

QUOTE(soonlee33 @ Dec 29 2011, 09:58 AM) no idea, but why bother with gingerbread?QUOTE(faizalmzain @ Dec 29 2011, 10:11 AM) i gave in, finally rooted and installed roman's AOSP 4.03 ROM. they have their reasons. some gapps for 4.03 are updated to latest version as seen on my nexus s. i don't know why google doesn't OTA 4.03 for GN yet and nexus s got it first officially. QUOTE(Aimar Walabi @ Dec 29 2011, 10:42 AM) I'd say GNex, but not significantly.mainly the screen and design of the phone, plus the fact that it is a Google phone. either way you can't go wrong. |

QUOTE(Aimar Walabi @ Dec 29 2011, 01:55 PM) oo ok.. nvm.. ill wait for 1 week to hear feedback about the battery b4 decide buying SII or Nexus.. not sure if this is good, but I'm getting 12 hours easily even when I am constantly using the phone, else with light usage it gets 24 hours easily. cruxidex's GNex has similar battery life. |

QUOTE(siewsphone @ Dec 29 2011, 03:37 PM) nope, everything's stock ARHD with the battery life I'm getting, also flashed the auto backlight patch that cruxidex posted. HOWEVER... I've just flashed JamesBond kernel, and applied UV settings (1.4Ghz OC+UV actually, but the voltage is actually lower than stock), will need to wait to see how the battery life goes. QUOTE(Aimar Walabi @ Dec 29 2011, 03:54 PM) undervolt meaning same clock speed but running at lower voltage, so you get to save more power. QUOTE(Aimar Walabi @ Dec 29 2011, 06:49 PM) ohh man... this what i need.. now i need to know more about this.. im juz normal user.. nvm, ill try google it.. thanxxx! hehe, no problem its ok even if you're just a normal user. I think in a few more weeks the kernel will be released with its default UV settings, so users don't have to tinker with the voltage themselves, just flash the kernel and that's it. Right now the kernel developer still haven't found a stable UV settings yet, hence why the voltage is open for tinkering. |
