hi guys, every time i switch on my water heater (not wall mount type, with a tank above ceiling), short circuit will happen. May i know what is the cause of this issue? And tenant or owner should bear the repair cost? Thanks

Usually due to corrosion (old age) of the heating element.
Whoever own the house should repair it.

Bought several Cornell water heater without pump around RM190 5 years back and now few of them fails to heat the water. sad.gif
Luckily, there is 7 years of warranty for heating element. Now, going to gauge how is the performance for their support services to look into this matter.
Sticking back with the more stable Panasonic which had served me most of the time more than 10 years. notworthy.gif

Got to know Cornell is a co-brand of Pensonic.
This blardy blood sucking company charges RM 55 to just come to check per product.
Which means if you have 2 heaters, you need to pay RM110 just for checking even though in then same house.
The reception got the cheek to tell you that only one part of the heater is covered which is the heating element. If other parts are faulty the you need to pay more. Not sure how much they will be quoting me after checking.
Some more, the technicians are not working on weekends. Which means that you need to take leave to attend to them.

Safe to say that I will not be buying Pensonic and its co-brand such as Cornell, Lebensstil, Morphy Richards, Belling, Gaggia

Pana basic push start model is the best. Aka the DH3MS1
Only RM280-290 or so

Don’t buy fancy plastic N series. 🍋 model

Depending on your shower habit. Instant water heater is easier to install, but hot water usually only comes after a few seconds after you switch on the heater.

The water temperature is much more consistent for storage water heater, but it is more expensive to install.

Both can't be compared apple to apple, since usage wise both are slightly different.

Few pointers to help u decide:

1. Usage | for bathtub / jacuzzi usage, definitely need to use storage water heaters (outputs about +70°C), as instant water heaters cannot generate hot enough output water, even those super high 7kW power rating ones (outputs below 50°C, depending on water flow).

2. Budget | Storage water heaters + installation is usually above RM1k already (eg. Shopee most popular one like this Centon model here). So if u are not prepared to fork out at least RM1k, then better get instant water heaters. And houses which have storage water heaters usually have high water pressure, or will have external booster pumps installed, such as Grundfos pumps (example here), which cost another RM2k plus.

3. Existing space and pipings | Storage water heaters requires quite some space in the ceiling (or below the ceiling, if u r ok with that), and also hot & cold water piping connections. So if u don't have those, u can't use storage water heaters or u have to fork out more money to build the hot & cold water piping connections / renovate & allocate more space for the storage water heaters.

One way to make an educated decision is to refer to those e-Commerce's product reviews, especially those stores that have sold a lot of those models you are looking for. Examples below:

- Panasonic U series (DH-3UP1MS) | Shopee / Lazada

- Panasonic M series (DH-3MP1MW) | Shopee / Lazada

Hello can anyone share your advice on balancing central water heater vs individual water heaters?

My subsale unit has:
1.Central electrical water heater supply to kitchen and 2nd bathroom (very old)
2.Individual water heater for master heater (newer but not sure how old)

I'm thinking of replacing the central water heater but looking to see what are the pros and cons of central vs individual water heaters

Hi all,

Since water heaters definitely need electrical work - can anyone recommend reliable electricians near OKR/PJ area that are qualified/certified?

I've seen several posts recommending to find a good electrician but when searching online many seem like those "self taught" types. While I'm sure some may be good, I have doubts on whether they're actually up to date on the code requirements or all just learnt via trial and error. Electrical work isn't really one where you want to learn this way as a customer. sweat.gif

Also, how do you tell if an electrician is "qualifed/certified"?

By right, qualified electricians will have at minimum a PW1/PW3 certification.
You might try getting one from FB group "Chargeman & Wireman Msia" https://www.facebook.com/groups/wireman/

However, ignoring that, the major thing that a non-technical user must know to be safe for WH installation - the key is in your DB box:

STEP 1. Identify BIG blocks with TEST button (that trips off the power).

1(a) three phase
Attached Image

1(b) single phase
Attached Image

STEP 2. WHAT they trip off is important.

If you have MORE THAN ONE block with TEST, and there is one that only trips off the power to each WH (Water Heater) then you are OK. This will have 10mA or 0.01A rating on it.
Attached Image

If you have only ONE block with TEST button (that trips off the ENTIRE house) i.e. there is NO OTHER block with TEST = You have NO protection.
MUST get the electrician to install 10mA RCD. This is dangerous (potentially fatal) if uncorrected.

Either ABB or Hager 10mA RCDs are the best protection you can get in West Msia market easily.

Hi all, is the link below the correct rcd for WH? icon_question.gif
each rcd would still need to be pair with their own 20A mcb, right?

Yes, must pair with MCB. This should be the best apart from Hager, per ceo684

Do you have existing rcd or this is a new installation (either adding to existing WH currently without RCD or installing brand new wiring for WH)?

Don't forget to check you have 2 spare slots in the DB to fit this RCD.
