yeah.. i encounter same problem after uninstalling some program that TS post on the first page. Any solution?

I had the same problem before, check event viewer under administrative tools. The error should be regarding the AsusWebStorage, try uninstalling it and see if it solves the problem smile.gif

The color temperature for my display is a little off sweat.gif can't seem to tune it to make it similar to my desktop display

edit:
I realized if I set some color settings in Splendid Utility, it will revert back to the default If I run anything that goes full screen blink.gif

Been lurking this thread for 2 weeks already.

(Had to make a new account so my gf wouldn't find out! sucks to be me lol)

I'm looking for a gaming laptop which I can also use for work (I bring my laptop to work everyday)

N55 looks sexy, but as I've read thru every pages, I noticed a lot of people having trouble here and there, so am quite skeptical.

I also checked on MSI, but I am not familiar with the brand.

Been using 2 Asus laptops in the period of 7 years, till present.

1 more, is the battle between - Do I need an i5 or i7? Depending on my needs/wants?

I want to:-

- be able to do a lot of multi-tasking
- playing the latest games
- good speakers/sound as I watch dramas/movies almost every night. *cough* tin coke *cough*
- fast processing power
- not to mind about the weight, used to carrying bag everyday
- if its logical to not to spend more than RM3k for it

@.@ I know if I want to ask for recommendation, I should go make a thread at Mob computing/post in a recommendation thread, but I chose to say it here, because I've done some comparison..only now I can't decide on which model I should get.

Thanks in advance.

Lol wat would happen if ur gf found out? hmm.gif U can find reviews, advices and most of the answered questions in the first page.Simon did a good job compiling every informations here laugh.gif

Anyway, here's a piece of information from me since I'm quite free now tongue.gif

Core i5 or i7?Ask urself.Do u really need the hyper threading?Core i5 is powerful enough to handle daily common task such as browsing or running Full HD videos. The hyper threading helps in various applications such as Matlab,VMWare,Autocad,Photoshop,Winzip,Winrar,Video decoding/encoding and a lot more.Nonetheless, the difference between 2 of them in terms of gaming is very minimal.U have to fork out around 800 bucks more for the core i7 and blue ray drive. If it's useful to u and u think it's worth, then Core i7 is the answer.

As for build material,u have to go and feel it urself. It's hard to describe in words laugh.gif Nvidia GT 555M is good enough to handle current games. It can play Battlefield 3,Modern Warfare 3,L.A Noire,Rage,Skyrim,Saint Row 3,Need for Speed The Run at medium-high settings.

One thing u should take note.N55SF core i5 comes in HD+ resolutions with matte screen (1600 x 900) while the rest comes in HD resolutions (1366 x 768) with glossy screen?

The sub-woofer is great in my opinion.Unless u wanna compare it with 2.1 or 5.1 speakers. It's portable and it gives good base.

As for the weight,it's kinda heavy for N55SF so it's not good for portability.Btw,it comes with 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0,which means 4 USB ports. This should be sufficient for ur devices.

There is only 1 verdict besides all these good points. The cover lid. It's so fingerprint and dust magnet and easy to get scratched.

Conclusion, for plus minus 2.7k,u get Nvidia GT 555M,Intel Core i5,free sub-woofer and 4 USB ports.I can say it's pretty much worth it tongue.gif

Wah, thank you so much for your time brother! So, pertaining to your reply...(Warning: Wall of texts!)

1) My gf: Will snap and say "this money can buy me LV bag, or maybe a vacation on some island" and shit... laugh.gif

2) Core i5/i7: Yes, that is my issue here. I didn't know how this hyper threading and all that can be of any difference, not that literate. From your explanation, i5 is good enough for me already, as I do not use crazy softwares like AI,PSD,3DMax and stuff. And when you mention the difference is minimal in terms of gaming to have quite wrapped my concerns.

2A) Is this i5 able to withstand for the next 2-3 years if compared to i7? Because I don't spend a fortune on a laptop, so when I look for a replacement, it has to be able to serve me for at least 3-4 years. Currently using ASUS K40AB for 2 years and a half already. Still serving me quite please-fully but it has become obsolete when it comes to modern gaming.

3) I do not need a Blu-ray drive, because I already have a Sony PS3 to accommodate. But I don't know if it feels good to have a BR drive in a laptop. Sounds cool but not a need haha..

4) Screen: I noticed that, but I have never experience 1080p on a small screen, so I can't tell. If there is a full HD w/ matte screen + Core i5, I think it's quite a bang for bucks.

5) Sub-Woofer: This tin coke is so cool, read reviews and turned out to be a good addition. Put it on a flat surface, it will deliver. And I do NEED good pairs of speakers (If I couldn't I'll plug in PC Speakers up to my needs)

6) Portability: I have no issues with weight. Good laptop bag makes no difference in terms of few hundreds of grams.

7) Fingerprint magnet: Well, my current ASUS also in black, and it's magnet of every single bad thing in life lol...i hate it. Need to always wipe and wipe. I don't know if N55 will make me cry again but, my future purchase has nothing much on the looks, only PERFORMANCE.

Verdict: Do I finally need an i5 for current needs and able to withstand the next few years? Or is it worth it to invest more $$$ and get i7?

EDIT: How is the feel for the keyboard? Just some review, I will look for the model at IT store and try it myself anyway.

Thanks.

i know it may be subjective, but what about...

i7 + 1gb of same GPU

VS

i5 + 2gb of same GPU

Concern --> gaming + multimedia usage.

from a layman like me, for gaming.. gpu > cpu but i may be wrong shakehead.gif

Gaming is GPU comes first.
For gaming in notebook, 1GB GPU is enough.
i7 + 1GB or i5 + 2GB would reach similar FPS unless the games is optimized for Quad Core.

Note that when I mentioned the Y570 has weaker GPU, its not due to the VRAM amount, but its really a different GPU.
nVidia GT555M for now there are 4 version with different performance.
N55SF is the third position while the Y570 is the fourth.

lol, ok, for GPU wise, we don compare the gpu by its memory, its not like a GPU with 2gb memory is better than 1gb memory GPU. It depends on a lot more factor like the bus speed and everything. For this case, lenovo's GT555M are weaker version of gt555m if compared to Nx5SF series one(iirc lenovo one has 96 cores compared to 144 cores in Nx5SF). For CPU wise, like duckies said, u have to ask yourself. Do u really need that processing power? Do u often do coding, video rendering and stuff? If just for gaming + multimedia usage in this case, i would say u go for Nx5SF(i5 + 2gb GT555M). Since gaming wise this gt555m is better than lenovo's. Then i5 for gaming and multimedia usage is enough.

P.S the memory of GPU helps in multi display. If 2gb one it can multi display better than a 1gb GPU.

Hope this help xD

By just multi display, you don't need that much of VRAM.
But when you start playing games on high resolution (like 2560x1600) and with ultra high texture, then you will need more than that. But the problem is, can your notebook play the games at that settings? laugh.gif
