Any owners of Golf GTI letting go 17" rims ? My friend is interested. Also, for the spoiler of a Golf TSI to be changed to the Golf GTI, any downside, i.e. more downforce or something ? Friend is getting his golf tsi soon, planning for upgrades to the 17" gti rims and also the spoiler 1st.
*
I sold off mine previously at around 1200 including with tyres for the 17" Denvers which was also sprayed to look like Detroits.

The spoiler only makes it look sportier. Here are the various spoilers available for the Golf TSI.

1) Votex Spoiler
2) ABT Spoiler
3) Caractere Spoiler

All the 3 above are add-ons to the original current spoiler on the Golf TSI. Replica ones can cost around RM500-RM600 which includes spraying and installation.

Another option is to get the Original GTI spoiler which can cost around RM1300-RM1700 depending on where you fix it.

QUOTE(dp82 @ Apr 3 2012, 12:43 PM)
any 1 can advise with what's the engine difference between MK5 GTI 2008 vs MK6 GTI 2011?

Planning to get a 2nd hand GTI. What are the DOs and DONTs? No experience in getting a used car...
*
The Mk5 GTI uses the older EA113 engine versus the Mk6 GTI which uses the EA888 engine. On dyno, the EA888 engine performs better for stock cars (e.g. a Stock Mk5 GTI gets around 185-190hp on wheel where we have see the Mk6 GTI getting around 197-210hp on wheel, both using the same dyno machine at GT Auto).

Other than that, the differences is that the EA113 still uses a timing belt but the EA888 uses a timing chain.

Do note that the Golf R's engine is based off the EA113 but with forged internals and improved performance to push the car to 270hp for their AWD system.

If you are going the way of mods, a Stage 3 Mk5 I have seen reached around 280+ hp on wheel versus a Stage 3 Mk6 which has reached around 303hp on wheel. Of course some of the parts are different but the amount spent is around the same.

Mavik, when I asked some of the development engineers on why they used the EA113 engine in the Mk6 Golf R, they said that this wasn't the case...

A little confusing for me.
*
From what I have asked the last time, during the development of the Golf R 20, the EA888 was a relatively new engine while the EA113 engine was already in use for the S3. Hence instead of wasting time and $$$ developing the EA888 to achieve higher power and having it being reliable, they decided to go with an already proven engine which was the EA113.

Found some other articles online as well.

@DaBestOne I've actually seen a 1.4TSI 'Roc in this colour in KL before. Suspect grey import?
*
Rising Blue is an available option colour for the 1.4 Roc, as well as the 2.0 Roc here in Malaysia. Very rare would someone want to grey import in the 1.4 Roc. Very low margins to make.

QUOTE(zenix @ Apr 3 2012, 05:45 PM)
so mavik the MK5 has more moddy bits for it while the mk6 (at the moment) doesn't have many tuner bits?
*
Not really, both as equally amount of mods to play with especially since the EA888 engine has been out for a while now. Just that the Mk6 will give you a bit more power as well as I prefer the interior of the Mk6 over the Mk5

Yeah, I noticed the same:

If you look closely, notice that the Mk6 Golf R's engine cover and the intake design is exactly the same for the MkV GTI?

Here is the MkVI GTI's engine cover

Compare this with r3kahsttub's photo of the Golf R and below, the MkV GTI engine cover.

To me, I think it's just VW trying to be consistent with the term of TSI and moving away from the FSI. They still maintain TFSI for their Audi lines though.

yeah mavik, i knew the engine and intake design is same like mk5.. it just that when i see the engine cover it stated TSI.. not TFSI.. thanx btw..
*
I guess they are moving away from the FSI terminology and keeping it consistent throughout the VW line while leaving the TFSI for Audi. No idea there blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

has anybody having problem with the DSG where the mechatronics failed especially for the polo GTI?

*
Yes, mechatronics failure. Send it back to the service center to get it replaced under warranty. I have seen it happen to Golfs, Polo Sports, Scirocco and a Jetta as well.

May i know what's the market price for a 2010 golf gti? Because a friend of mine is looking to buy one and he found this guy who wants to sell his 9 months old 2010 made golf gti for 175k. Is that price okay?
Btw the golf gti is still with standard stock without any mods because the owner is an old guy
*
That price is a good price!

I wonder if the dealer will let me drive it to VW for them to check it out and endorse that it is in warranty.. sounds like a far-fetched idea
*
What do you want checked out of the vehicle? What I can recommend you is to check which workshops are close to the car dealer and you go there. Going to VW dealers would have some issues because 1) there is already a waiting list for them to service cars and all, 2) you can't get a timeslot because mainly you are not a customer of theirs. Best is to check where the vehicle is bought from (check in the used car dealer's, the service manual will usually provide that information).

With the VIN number and license plate, call the respective VW dealer the car came from and get all your information from it.

my polo is due for her first service soon..how far in advance should I make an appointment? and how long does the service normally takes? planning to send her to Glenmarie branch.
*
Just call them now and they will set your expectations. Different service centers have different service loads so best is to give them a call now. Don't procastinate

Once the CKD version comes out, it should be priced lower. Perhaps the 88-89k mark?

Anyone know if the Golf R are a limited edition/unit in Malaysia or not ?

How many horsepower does the Golf R engine develop on stock form ?
*
You need to check with the dealers, all I know that there is a long waiting list as well for the Golf R depending on colour. Golf R in Malaysia as mentioned by r3kahsttub is that it was downtuned to 255ps vs the standard 270ps in other countries.

With insurance and tax should be around RM193k depending on how much NCB you have. If you have 55% NCB then it should be close to RM191k
