This question had been raise many times and SPCA always giving a lot of excuses why they didn't neuter the kitten. As far as I know, shelter for animal will neuter the kittens/pups as young as 3 months (for female) because they can get on heat at 3 mths old. No fund for SPCA for spaying?? Fund keep coming in and they can afford to buy land and bungalow already.

I give my support and donation to FFF run by Sabrina Yeap.
Do you remember several years ago SPCA put 1 long hair kitten for adoption without spaying her?? Not long after that the new owner proudly declared in one of the animal forum the kitten were pregnant and offer to sell her kittens. At that time this issue was kecoh for a while. Buy a litter box and litter sand. Fill the litter box with litter sand and put your cat there. Their natural instinct making your cat automotically digging the sand and start eliminate inside the box instead around your house.
Spay your female cat to avoid spraying. Some alpha female will urinated around the house to mark their territory. Not only male do that. How old is your female cat? QUOTE(Mike3300 @ Apr 3 2012, 12:13 PM) |

Yes, I also agree with your method to cage the cat with the litter box & litter sand. I once taught 1 meowmmyless kitten on how to use the litter box. So cute

Don't lock her in the toilet without the litterbox & litter sand. The maint point here is to teach her how to use the litterbox. No point of locking her in the toilet or the room if you didn't teach her toilet manners. She is still a kitten. No wonder she pee and poo everywhere. She doesn't have mother?? Normally mother cat will teach her kittens how to poo and pee in the litterbox.
If she is an indoor cat, you can neuter her when she reach 5 mths old. The cheapest to neuter/spay cat is at Klinik Kembiri in Setapak. RM50 for male and RM70 for female. QUOTE(Mike3300 @ Apr 3 2012, 02:04 PM) She's about 4 months old, not spayed yet. How much to spay her? This post has been edited by Listiani: Apr 3 2012, 02:15 PMAdded on April 3, 2012, 2:04 pmWill it do any good if I lock her up in the toilet for a day? |

After spaying she will not be able to conceive or looking for boyfriend
If you don't teach her toilet manners now, it will become habit. Meaning pooing and peeing here and there. If you are patience enough to teach her using the toilet bowl, the answer is yes. Some cats know how to use toilet bowl. You can chk with Alicia from Pet Epicure (goggle for her contact). Pet Epicure selling toilet bowl for cats. But I dunno how much is the successful percentage of cat using this toilet bowl for cats. QUOTE(Mike3300 @ Apr 3 2012, 02:16 PM) I see, any other options if not using sand and litterbox? Her mother was with someone else, the kittens were send to SPCA. So after neuter or spay, she no longer can conceive and spraying right? Is the process just awhile or it takes time? Added on April 3, 2012, 2:36 pmScooping and scrubing the litterbox might not his cup of tea I am a slave to my cats. So I am willingly to serve 10 masters QUOTE(D_L @ Apr 3 2012, 02:28 PM) yes u can teach the kitten to use toilet bowl also but i dunno how's the method....try google it...there are some websites that will teach u the method...but i think its easier to teach them to use the litter box....may i know why u don want to use any litter box? There are several reason why cats do not want to go to the existing litterbox. Is the litterbox frequently clean?? if yes, what type of litter sand u use?? If possible, don't use scented litter sand. Especially citrus smell.
Some cats doesn't like the rocky feeling on their paws when they do their business. You know, walking on the rocky litter sand. U buy several type of litter sand and let your cat choose. They are after all, our master. They command and we follow QUOTE(__mill @ Apr 3 2012, 02:39 PM) |

Must be the tray. Some of my cats love hooded litter box, some don't. So I prepare 2 type of litterbox. I will chk both type of boxes to see which box contain more poo and pee. Kinda surveying cat's preference
QUOTE(__mill @ Apr 3 2012, 03:02 PM) yea i think it's the tray type. haha.. but the current one is hooded type. which gives some privacy when they do business. quite big too .. the one i gave her is the open type, but if uses that i scare later the sand scattered all over the place .. i agree with the demanding part.. but what to do, we love them anyway .. |

Compare to have to clean your couch, floor and all over the house everyday. It is better to you have 1 final place for her to do her business.

Brader. In my personal opinion, you are not ready to have a pet. First you do not want to use litter box because too many work. Now you expect the cat to poo/pee right to the sink hole. Be grateful the cat poo and pee in the toilet. You can use the water hose to push it to the hole.
You must remember, to have a pet is like to a toddler at home. If you are not ready for extra work, don't keep pet or don't have kids. Wait until you cat fall sick. You will have problem to sleep because you need to attend to a sick cat. Trust me, I have to care for my sick cat. He fell from the 3rd floor and broke his leg. That was 1 part of the problem. The 2nd problem, he couldn't pee by himself. I need to compress his stomach until he can pee on his own. QUOTE(Mike3300 @ Apr 5 2012, 11:41 AM) If a cat blinks, it means "I trust you, you are harmless and so do I." Read it on the net too. This post has been edited by Listiani: Apr 5 2012, 03:10 PMOkay, my female kitty Tisha finally pooped and peed in the toilet. But she did that in the farthest corner of the toilet. Can I re-position her stuff to be near to the sink hole so I can flush it easier? |

Glad to hear that .Most pet owner take the easy way out by abandon their pets. It was a heartbroken situation. I saw many dogs and cats fall sick and die because they missed their owner/family. They forgot that animal have feelings too.
Kitten is easy to teach because they are still young. Like young kids. QUOTE(Mike3300 @ Apr 5 2012, 02:45 PM) |

Yes. my neighbour in Kota Kinabalu. Passed his dog to his friend to take care because he wants to migrate overseas. His dogs died 4 mths later. He doesn't want to eat, just lying on the floor and whining. I cried when I see the dog howl every nite because he missed his old master.
My cats also very monyok everytime I go for outstation trip. Now I am bit worry because I'll be going to Korea on 20/4-28/4. They'll surely become monyok. I must hug and kiss them a lot when I return to KL. To reassure them I have no intention to abandon them. QUOTE(Mike3300 @ Apr 5 2012, 03:29 PM) |

My cats are FELV positive. Last year November I went away for 5 days. Spot fell sick. When I returned, he looks malnourished and underweight. I have to nurse him back for 2 months. My vet told me, for FELV positive cat, they will die if they got so stress. I have to get up very early in the morning to feed him medicine and air gamat too. I have to use syringe to force him drinking air gamat. Now he is back to his normal self.
QUOTE(verulin @ Apr 5 2012, 04:21 PM) my cat Tiger is blind so I guess it made him a bit clingy to me. I once left him at home overnight as I had to make a quick outstation trip. When I came back the next day I realised he was so stressed that he pulled out a bit of fur. Now he has another brudder cat to keep him company true story from ISPCA: A young woman had to surrender her dog as she had to move away for work. The dog refused to eat for weeks, but finally the staff managed to get it to eat a little bit. Then the woman decided to visit the dog. When she left, the dog got so depressed again that it died some time later |

Kucing kampung is the most low maintenance cat unlike breed cat. Let me give you an example. For kucing kampung, you don't have to brush their body every day. They can groom themselves. Persian cat, you need to groom every day, wipe their discharge from their eyes twice daily. Once the cat poo, u need to wipe their butt due to their long fur. Kucing kampung can eat almost anything but breed cat can only consume certain product coz if you them anything, their fur will falling or something else.

Get your cat scratching post and lots of scratching posts. Spray cat nip on the post. I will never cut my cat's nail. The nails are use as a grip when they jump and land or climbing on anything.

Some people think it is ok when the cats are indoor. But for me the cat's claws are there for a reason. I got many scracthes on my leg and hand from my cat's claw. But that's ok.
QUOTE(Hevlaska @ Apr 12 2012, 05:16 AM) trimming the front claws are fine, IF only they are strictly INDOOR cat... most of my cats are extremely playfull and love to climb onto me the moment i hit the floor, so just imagine them clawing on my shoulders and arms if left untrimmed... Though i would say it wouldnt save your precious furnitures from bring torn to bits... the best way to prevent them from scratching your sofas, are to provide them with a surface much more fun scratching than your sofas... cats love rouch sturdy textures, a texture similar to Sisal Ropes or doormats. Cat scratch not just to shed their claws, but also to stretch their body... therefore make sure the post isnt wobbly or movable as the cat definately will loose interest in it. Added on April 12, 2012, 5:23 am I'm sure many will agree, i've read this article quite some time ago... then again, for the sake of convenient AND especially the smell of thier litter will definately cause many to decide to go back to regular kibble diet... Anyways, for those who opt for BARF diets, remember to advance your deworming schedule =) |
