Regarding GC issue and comparison that we subjected.......
We are always pushing hard our GC above limit........ Overclocked,High setting game...even though the performance is limited. Why....we're still hunger for being the top right.pity for the GC working more than he can.......... |

well, personally, and usually, i'll reccommend you the AMD 6730 card, however, since both card are actually head to head each other, and you have the money, why not the nvidia 540?
since nvidia did pay developers to use their CUDA cores in games, why not? if the graph is right, even my "really old" HD4670 can OC to get 3DMark06 8277 points, from peanut 6k++ points.... so why not the newer 6730 (that have much2 larger OC headroom) cant be OC'ed like nuts? |

Hi. How about heat issue?
which one runs cooler? I read through some comparison. in overall ati runs cooler and quieter compare to nvidia. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2977/nvidia-...th-the-wait-/19 do you think this review helps? anyway, i am also considering these 2 laptops with i5 2410 |

yup, you read it right, ATI cards runs much more cooler now. Thanks to nvidia's engineer magic. They forgot the heat and power issue and just concentrate on performance.
I love ATI really, but now games developer always use nvidia. I dunno why. Did nvidia pay them? I forgot where, but I've read even Video encoding using CUDA yield worst results. Even Intel GMA can produce much2 better video Encode than CUDA. ATI using openCL produce OK results, but ultimately CPU encoding produce best quality encodes. |

last time i can safely say that nvidia>ati/amd but now its really neck to neck
nvidia have better drivers generally but amd is improving a lot few things you can take advantage in a NVIDIA mobile gpu is the Optimus and their CUDA cores Optimus = better battery life management CUDA = not very familiar with it but you can work faster and better in multimedia with it |

CUDA is only good for the programs that uses them. List of programs could be found here. Most of them are professional application though
Optimus is a funky name for switchable graphics, it seamlessly changing between integrated GPU (such as Intel HD) and dedicated nvidia graphics when it detect certain application that requires more power, usually 3D games and apps. Its so seamless you don't detect when does it switch, the only indication you could see is enable a small NVIDIA GPU activity on Notification area and see whether the nvidia card is be used or not. |

I read through one of the lowyat post, i think is "GT540m POISON". That is the post where GT540m users share their gaming experience.
One of the pro user use software to test the temperature of the GPU. The temperature reached about 81 degree when playing games. (i think the games is Battlefield). Is that consider hot or normal? Apparently GT540M has many user compare to AMD 6730M. Is it because AMD 6730M new GPU? There are people saying that Intel I5 with NV card is better, compare to I5 with AMD card. Myth or truth? I now have a laptop, compaq CQ40 (AMD Turion + ATI Radeon HD3200). The laptop is very hot and noise when running heavy application or games. I am not sure it is due to CPU or GPU. MY priority concern is reliability, coolness and noise level. I want the GPU to be reliable, quiet, not hot / less power consumption. Among NV GT540M and AMD 6730M which one will you guys suggest? mostly lappy come with GT540M cos cheaper & easy to obtain it. original stock GT540M > HD5650 but when guys go for OC HD5650 > GT550M so no need said GT540M lah
if 6730 compare with 540. i will go for 6730. if 555 compare with 6730.. i go for 555.. if 6770 compare with 555 i go for 6770! |

GT 540M is popular because there are lots of manufacturer uses it. It could run up to 110C before it start taking damage, not permanent but it will reduce lifespan. Laptop component could handle more heat than desktop counterparts. The heat from CQ40 is due to CPU mostly, but cooling in that laptop aren't good as well. There isn't any myth, its just common misconception of people thinking some combo works better than others. Any dedicated GPU uses more power and produce more heat than an integrated GPU. Its not purely depends on the GPU or CPU in the laptop that leads to heat, but also chassis design and also heatsink fan that uses to cool them down. So its just a matter of reading the review of the actual laptop could determine whether it would run cool or it will poaching your eggs. Its up to you really, read reviews on HD 6730M performance here and GT 540M performance here. |
