Thankfully, AVB introduced Townsend who was very lively and won 3 free kicks for us. The first one resulted in a well taken goal by Super Jan!

yeah. a nice win but we should be scoring more goals.
without bale the midfield dont have much option.
but today gallas put on superb performance eventhough when faced with pacey striker, he will show why he need to step down.
ade is injured again hope its not too serious.
on the good note, parker are subs in on the last 5m but didnt touch the ball.
at least next game he should be able to start.

the commentator says that this is Jan's first goal in PL.
did he forget Jan scored the first goal in 3-2 win against MU in Old Trafford?

having 2 right footed players on the left is a problem ...

Defoe n Townsend shld have buried Swansea late in the game
1-on-1 chances are must scoring opportunities
It was lucky that the late Swansea surge was not fruitful
Overall a gd win

Frankly townsend was the player whom I felt made a little difference
He had some left sided ability in him.

Naughton really shld nt b playing left back.so obvious he had to cut back to his right leg every time he had d ball.
Walker is no more the player he was last year.too many misplaced passes n he'd somehow lost d impetus to get forward and when he did he was rubbish - remember the chance he had in d 2nd half, didn't even got it on target!!!
Naughton can take right back n gallas can retire

last season having walker and BAE as side back felt like having extra 2 wingers
this season we dont felt that way yet.
lets see when BAE comes back...
should put Townsend as left midfielder instead of Dempsey.
that is not his natural position...

to play 2 up front, you need width and pace on the wings. that's why Ade was ineffective as he was out of position on the left. Definitely missing Bale.

With Modric n vdv leaving we really lost the link between our forward n midfield.
Dembele is the obvious replacement but frankly he's not really Modric quality.

sure he's not modric quality in terms of offense, but he brings some defensive steel to the team ... no 2 players are alike ... that's something that we'll have to accept ...

here's something to convince you guys ... link ... pretty convincing statistics ...

sometimes, i feel like dembele should do more forward runs, especially when we struggle to break down opposition defences ... he's pretty decent when he dribbles, has some speed and rarely loses the ball ... sure his passing range isn't that good, but nobody's perfect ...

We got drawn vs Lyon. Whoever wins our tie faces the winner of Inter vs Cluj next.

IMO this is the hardest draw we could've asked for

let's look at it this way, if we survive the 2 rounds, we'd have taken out 2 contenders for the cup ...

otherwise, we'll be able to focus on the premier league ... the holy grail is still the champions league ... so, i'm ok with that

btw, lloris vs lyon ... bale vs inter ... nice battles ahead

The Dubious Goal Committee or whatever ruled that goal as an own goal by ManU player. They must have found it hard to accept Spurs beat ManU ! biggrin.gif

hahaha nice one!
they might even too surprised that Jan takes not too long to score that first goal.
Own goal is when you deliberate directly or not but this is deflection and usually deflection goal awarded to the shooter.
just like when we lost to everton, dempsey's shot deflected before went into goal and he was credited for it.
anyway lets focus on game tonigt, COYS!

hard fought, Stoke played well in defense and Begovic's save off Siggy was impressive.

ade plays just like last part of last season where he drifted too many time to the side.
he need to open up to collect ball, yes but why must like every time?
we dont have target in center and sorry to say defoe cant fight vertically against this tall man club so ade is the only option...
anyway yes stoke really hold their defend and even with 22 shots on goal, we only manage to get 5 on target...

our forwards were too far away from the goal ... they did not threaten stoke enough ...

we don't seem to do well when we play 2 forwards ... back to 1 up front?

plays with 2 forwards is right but ade shouldnt wondering on the side too many time...
we have bale and lennon on the outside and they can outrun most people on the pitch.
get ready in the middle and position well when the ball comes in.
even Jan manage to provide few high quality crosses but neither defoe and ade at the right spot at the right time...
