yea, i have same issue with my TL-MR3420, after flash with open wrt all problems gone

After using Open-WRT on TL-MR3420,

my speed is A LOT stable ,.. No More Up Down like Rollercoaster

if u need USSD function, why not try MDMA ?

i know nothing about open wrt/linux, so better stay with 12.09 Beta 1

my open wrt on this TL-MR3420 V1 luckily reconnect very fast after DC , as i set 5 instead of 20

how come the same openwrt build will cause your reconnect issue ? may be different hardware ? possible ?

guess open wrt still the best direction to go

plus V2 cannot flash open wrt, so i rather stay with V1,

remember V1~V1.3 all can use openwrt

while V2 is not support Open wrt

guess u have to change your phone to 5GHz support

u should connect your lan cable from another 3G router yellow color lan cable port into this tl-MR3420 router blue color lan cable port

if u worry,u can update router firmware to latest 120523 for V1 ~ V1.3

and download modem bin file from tp link websites and upload the modem bin file into your modem setting under network -> 3G

for me, i would prefer V1~ V1.3 due to

can flash with openwrt

and V2 is not support by open wrt, plus the stock original firmware is quite buggy sometimes

and consistency is as superb after using with openwrt

after i flash with open wrt, sometimes the IP i can keep until 5~7 days before it DC.

with stock firmware last time, i DC every 12~24 hour,.. and keep losing all those good IP address,

that's why i personally prefer V1~V1.3

just my feedback experience with openwrt compare with stock firmware
