It also depends on concenience, if I want to buy micro sim, must go to maxis centre, so, cutting is easier and faster. Like upsilon, my sim card is new, in fact newly bought for n9.

As for important phone calls, that's what the other hp is for. I have my dumbphone in my bag, with sim card ready. If n9 battery die cos I been watching vids/ play games intensively, out comes the other phone, switch on the fella, use. Different people have different ...... contingency plans, depending on usage pattern and experience.

Yes, you can cut it and change it later when convenient (e.g. Sunway Pyramid has both Maxis and DiGi Centre, and open on weekends). That's what I did, I change on weekend and I didn't know it was only RM20. (Some shop even charge Rm10~RM15 for cutting service; when you can replace for RM20)

Anyway, not a big issue. I'm just sharing experiences and point of view, as some people like I said, may not "see" and seems not able to understand why wanna pay, just cut-lah; just like those people when you tell them, change the battery before it's dead to avoid this and that, or some other similar things because some people they never in their entire life face any major issues, everything goes smoothly and easy for them, so they conclude that others will NOT face the problem and should just follow what they do.

My suggestion and point of view when giving suggestion is; between cut and replace at little cost; replace is much better option because cut you may face several issue (e.g. SIM Card damaging other phone sim card slot) and possibility/chances of the SIM no longer working. So, in my opinion, that kind of suggestion, if people face problem, who they want to blame?
I'm not talking about single person, I'm talking as a whole when we suggest to people, we shouldn't think of HOW we prepared for it (e.g. have 2nd phone).
If the person follow the advice and cut, later he/she went holiday during CNY (e.g. Genting Highlands), go out with family, play alone, later wanna make calls... SIM card decided to FAIL at that moment. Wow.
Of course, the chances of it happening is slim and not everyone is that unlucky. I'm very unlucky type, so I have to always think about many types of consequences, but even I do and prepared, it still happen in some other ways.

Well, most people may think I'm too extreme on the examples above, but hey, prevention is better than cure.

In the end, just do what you want to do, I've explain why I suggest the above. People can still disagree and think there's no need to worry about all those, just like every other scenario. Experience is still the best. Some people, they NEED to experience it to understand and feel, and most of the time, these people they tend to believe that people who never experience cannot understand and feel, they don't believe some people can feel and simulate without experiencing it.

You can go to any telco centre like digi, celcom and maxis cutting is FREE. Some Handphone shops charge from RM10 to RM15 and if damage they wont guarantee.

Here all my micro sim cut by sim cutter that works fine on my Nokia N9 , Ipad 2 and Iphone.

Mine also cut and works fine at first, suddenly it just fail and I didn't even know. People can't get me.....
Some other people also face same problem, at first everything working fine, then one day, suddenly it just stop working.

That's why it's "recommended" (not must) to just change it to new micro-SIM (beside, to get FREE cut at telco centre, since already there, can consider just purchase it). Overall, it's better quality and less problem, when you cut, the edges is not smooth unless you go and smoothen it, and you may risk damaging some phones sim card slot. If cut and have problem later, only can blame card/ownself action, if use replace micro-SIM and have problem, can complain to telco.

Anyway, not everyone suffers the same fate, so it's just a recommendation, not must. But if recommend cutting, and the person face problem later, that's another story.

In Melaka there is only one main Maxis Centre, if I recall correctly, it doesnt open at nite or Sundays/Public Holidays & not nearby. If those who stay in rural areas even further. Takan they want travel all the way. So, cutting sim card is what we normally will do.

Anyway, I mention the 2nd phone because battery dead situation is more probable to happen than sim card fail situation. Therefore, that is safeguard also lor, bring 2 phones, can use the old dumphone which is cheap & light. Unless one is super duper unlucky both also out of order. Like you say, prevention better than cure, there are many prevention methods. biggrin.gif

In same way, when giving suggestion, I'm giving point of view of those who dont stay in big cities.

Wow aspire, you take photo of micro sim some more:lol: No lah, how can expensive smartphone put in bag, wait get stolen. My other phone is E6, that's my main line. Sometimes I bring my N9 & an old dumb phone, always two phones. My 'other phone' will always be regular sim card size, avoid sim card fail prob, rough edge prob, etc, hehehe.

Cutting is also free at Nokia Dealer if we buy the phone from the shop.

Urgent! N9 having trouble receiving calls!

UPDATE:

I found out the issue already.
1. If you turn on Skype and have Skype contact merged with your contact list
2. The Skype contact has same phone number with your normal phone list.
3. You're not online.
4. The person with that skype number in your contact list will not be able to reach you.

Getting more and more friends and customers of mine said can't reach me.

I tried to call myself, most of the time works but sometimes don't...just keep duludu...

Anyone having the same problem? Or you just didn't notice...because no one kind enough to inform you?

Seems other also having the same problems:

Might be the contact problem? I have similar problem, it can't load the contact name properly sometimes...I have over 1k contacts, merging Phone,FB and Skype contact...last time I merged Gmail contact and I ended up reset the phone...

Dont misunderstand it depends on individual of course we recommend everyone to get a new micro sim but in some cases like mine. Not all my phones can fit a micro sim so two hassle will happen to me.

1) I can only use that simcard on phones that can fit microsim
2) I need to go find someone that sells the adapter to convert

So for some of us by cutting it to micro sim i can immediately without hassle can use it on any phones with or without micro sim but in some cases like the ones happen to Nokia N9 forumers you need to replace it.
