QUOTE(ddww @ Sep 15 2006, 08:50 PM) my 80GB Sata2 hitachi's temp is around 32~35 in air-con room, 39 in non-aircon room. maybe u need a small fan to blow the heat away. as for the 3 disks knocked out in the same time i think its not something to do with luck but something to do with the motherboard eh. BTW, Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB is the strongest now My old seagate goes up to about 38c in the daytime, no aircond. the maxtor is in the same computer and hits 35 on a hot day and rarely goes above. right now, both drives are below 30c cos it's quite cool.i mounted a small fan below the maxtor after reading all the stuff about them overheating but when I touch it, it feels quite cool. The new hitachi deskstar on my sister's pc is really hot, when u touch it it just feels a bit too hot for a hdd, the temp reading is about 40c or so. i had a quantum 7200rpm before that died quickly because it felt real hot too. so i was surprised to find very good comments by users on hitachi deskstars. anyway, another horror story on maxtors, my brother's 1 year old maxtor 7200rpm just died. he said it was the circuit board that konked out as he slipped in a different circuit board and it worked. said it was very hot all the time even with hdd fan. i donno if i am lucky or the latest maxtors run much cooler but my 160GB Sata really runs very cool. it's only 29c right now and no aircond on. i am keeping my fingers crossed, hope it lasts a few years. his other two hdds that died, one in his Mac is a toshiba and the other is a 2.5" portable samsung. both mechanical faults. very mafan and "sway" ah! to have all three go out about the same time! |

But some big big companies like Dell and Acer are still using Maxtors
I had my time with Maxtors, never getting another one of them |

Maybe Seagate might retain the Maxtor brand name because some people still like to use them

but one thing good i have to say about maxtor is their maxblast4 software so damn easy to use. i just download it and then copy from my old boot drive (seagate) to the new 160 maxtor and do everything with just a few clicks (partition to 80GB each and then format and copy about 20GB of data) and then I just reboot and finish, my new maxtor has same stuff as old seagate and is now my boot drive. very easy to use.

sotong, it's used to setup new disk, it allows u to clone/copy partitions and also reformat and repartition. i did everything in about 30 minutes (including copying and partitioning etc). but u have to uninstall the horrendously troublesome Norton Systemsworks if u have it before u clone or u cannot uninstall it anymore later. Also if u have activation required products like Photoshop CS2, u need to reinstall/reactivate those as well.
